Dwelling at Ponderosa is a spectacular 4000 square foot vacation home located in beautiful Idyllwild, Ca. The house is perfect for weekend getaways, retreats or family reunions. Sleeps up to 16 with the most amazing views imaginable!!
The owner is an architect and the home was meticulously designed with keen attention to both aesthetics and function. This home provides a visual experience and natural setting that has absolutely amazed past guests.
The kitchen is fully equipped with all necessary bowls, pans, griddles and cookware and dining service for 16. Additionally, there are two dishwashers...nice!!
The upper level has a Great Room which includes a dining area that has a table that seats 14-16. There is also a separate library with an ever growing stock of books. (This room also makes a great place for the kid's to play, yet still stay in site. The room has a glass door to view the ruckus yet keep the quiet). Also, the library has a game table and a case of board games and puzzles. But please note, what the house is not stocked with any media nor does it have WIFI. Our desire for this home was to create an environment where people can experience close community and interaction with each other and nature; thus, there is no television, computer, cable, internet, etc. (Cell phone reception is excellent, however).
There is an eight foot glass barn door that opens to the outdoor patio which has a direct view of Lily Rock and creates a lovely indoor/outdoor feel.
The bedroom level is uniquely laid out, where each bedroom has its own sink. In addition to the two suites that have their own bath, there are two showers and and three toilets, all of which are in their own separate rooms. Nobody ever hogs the bathroom in this home!!
Please note that the house is set up on the hill, which provides amazing views and privacy. However, there are 40 steps from the driveway to the house and the site is steep in some areas.

Summary: We needed a clean and comfortable place for a family get-together over the weekend, and found this place. The place was just right for the size and the needs of our family, a clean, well-stocked accommodation with the right amenities in terms of the number of bedrooms, bathrooms, a large sized room to interact, have fun connecting with each other - together and in smaller groups by age and enjoy games across generations. The place is a nice getaway from everywhere in SoCal , tucked away in the idyllic Idyllwild -Pinecove area in the San Bernardino National Forest. The 1+ hour drive from Temecula to here was well-worth, given the scenic vistas on the way, and at the venue. Tony, the owner shared clear instructions and floor plans well in advance that made the check-in, stay and check-out process very easy. He was very responsive throughout the process. The house was designed for large family/friend gatherings with a view to reduce distractions from modern technologies such as TV and internet, and encourage close and fun-filled in-person interactions. The highlight of the house is the great room on the third floor with amazing scenic views of the mountains, if you can muster the stamina to climb the 40+ stairs to get there! 😊 In summary, if you're looking for a quiet retreat with a group of near and dear ones, this is a perfect place for you!

Summary: Great home for a group retreat--our group has stayed here multiple times and we appreciate the host being willing to work with us. Be sure to bring your own soap and supplies (per instructions from the host).

Summary: We loved the view of this cabin. It’s big and comfortable. We loved how quiet the neighborhood is. We wished it had extra blankets for every bed. We did need a 4 wheel drive vehicle since road was icy during our stay! Overall, we enjoyed our stay and spending time with family!

Summary: It was the perfect place for the kids, significant others and the grands! Great spaces for games, quiet conversations and privacy. We had an amazing time and enjoyed the fresh air and quick access to local hiking trails. Idyllwild (the town) was a great place to explore.

Summary: We had a tall order. We wanted to find a place that had a great view, was spacious, not too far from town, but secluded enough to feel separated from the world. We specially looked for a place that had no cable tv, wifi or distractions. This place checked all the boxes!!! We'll definitely be back.
