6 Bedroom House in Latoue

The gite is located in the oldest part of the chateau which was originally a Donjon (defensive tower). In the 16th century it was turned into accommodation and the large stone staircase was added to access the 3 floors. Original 1m thick walls keep the house cool during the hot summers. On the ground floor there is a fully equipped kitchen/dining room and lounge with doors leading to the patio. On each of the 1st and 2nd floors are 2 double bedrooms ( one with ensuite), a twin room and a family bathroom (bath & shower). The full gite (3 floors) sleeps 12 people. The price in the calendar is for 2 floors, ground and normally 1st floor. The additional 3 bedrooms can be added in at extra cost. Whether you book it as a 'half' or full gite, the gite will be entirely yours.
Mature trees in the 20 acre grounds shelter many birds and other wildlife including deer and wild boar. The pool area provides a refreshing cool-down, or just somewhere to soak up the sun. A summer kitchen allows the family to bbq and al fresco dining. We have our own boules court and badminton & boules sets are provided for use, as is a croquet set. Being set in the middle of its 20 acres of grounds, Chateau Floran has a very peaceful atmosphere, bird song is heard all day and on a clear night the stars are amazing. We have a very friendly dog, 2 cats, a duck and 4 chickens. If the children want to help feeding the duck/chickens or collecting the eggs, then just let us know!
There are many quiet lanes to cycle on and walks through the woods in the local area and the Pyrenees are only 45 mins away. Historical Aurignac is 12mins away with shops and restaurants, and Saint Gaudens is 12 mins in the other direction. Latoue has a fishing lake, and play area for children including a basketball court. It also hosts a market and pizza van on a Friday evening.
Whilst we live in another part of the chateau, we respect your privacy, but are on hand if you have any questions concerning the house or area , or just want a chat.

Summary: As a group of nine, including two children (8 & 10), Chateau Floran was a great fit for us. The facilities are great and the hosts perfect. The chateau itself is beautiful and surrounded by nature which can only ensure a relaxing stay. There are lots of lovely places to investigate within easy reach. We didn’t want to leave! We hope to visit again sometime, but until then wouldn’t hesitate to recommend. Thank you!

Summary: It was a great pleasure to stay at the fantastic chateau of Jonathan and Mary-Jo. The chateau is absolutely fantastic, as is the garden, the great swimming pool, all the activities around the house (jeux the boules, darts, hikes, etc.) and the area. I want to highlight a few great things of this chateau. There are lot of shaded areas, so even if it is warm, you can comfortably sit outside without overheating. Moreover, there are hardly any flies or mosquitos, so eating outside is also a pleasure. Finally, Jonathan and Mary-Jo are two of the most wonderful people that you have the chance to meet. It was very great to stay at their place and get to know them.

Summary: Chateau Floran felt like a hidden gem. From the moment we arrived we couldn't feel more in the south of France. The castle itself is fantastic. Postcard perfect, but comfortable (a very well equipped kitchen, insect reppellent in every room, ...). The surroundings made it a small paradise for us and the children. We used the pool every day, ate outside in the shadow of the castle and made little walks on the terrain. What can I say more? We'll come back for sure.

Summary: This is really a 5 start house ***** The location is private and peaceful, the house itself unique. Pool is great and big, so is the garden. The owners are really fantastic people, we had a problem with the pool. As soon as we mentioned it they send a friend to help an sort it out. When he could not fix the problem the owner himself interrupted his holiday and came over from Dubai to really solve the problem. We are renting vacation houses for many years now and i have never seen this great service. The house is equipped with enough freezers, fridges, plates, cutlery, etc. to hold 12 people. It has enough bathrooms and we never did run out of hot water ever. If i have to mention a down side, the WiFi coverage could be better but the walls are 1m thick so maybe it is technical not possible there. But this is really the first 5 star house we ever stayed in, and if i could, i would give to Mary Jo and here husband 10 stars :-) ********** Thank you both for the wonderful time my friends and my family had in Latoue.

Summary: Having previously visited Chateau Floran I am amazed at the thrill the sight of it still produces, as we sweep round the final bend of the drive to see it in all its imposing magnificence. The sheer size with the towers, white walls and blue shutters, makes one want to explore at once. I love going through the main studded door, complete with dangling bell, and straight up the old worn stone stairs. I am reminded of stories of Knights and Ladies and I know my grandchildren were. There are so many steps the children could spend hours playing on them. Even so they are not too daunting for the older generation! The stairs lead to two floor levels each with three bedrooms and a family bathroom whilst the main room sports a well equipped, modern ensuite. Having slept in Techno, Sahara and Royale I find it hard to judge between them as all three have dual aspect. I suppose the large floor to ceiling windows and views in Sahara might win the day. The stone steps climb to another level in the tower but here one must be restricted to the imagination as they are locked off. The dining area and kitchen are attractive and well equipped with more than sufficient utensils for a large group and adequate seating round the table for at least twelve. The sitting area is attractive and spacious although did not tend to get used much as we preferred to sit and eat outdoors in the summer kitchen. The modern décor blends in well with the ancient. Without doubt the biggest attraction for our family is the large swimming pool, fenced off, but close to the house. Lots of parasols and loungers make it a pleasant place to while away the hours. Although we love Floran it is essential to have transport to visit the surrounding historic villages and the magnificent Pyrenees which can be reached within an hour. Even a trip through the mountains to Spain takes just over an hour and makes a great day out with the mountains providing ski lifts, cable cars and opportunities for climbing, walking and cycling whilst roadside cafes provide respite for the less energetic. I look forward to another visit at some point and still expect to be "wowed".

Summary: We spent a really enjoyable week at Chateau Floran in the summer full of fun and relaxation. The bedrooms were beautifully appointed with wonderful Thai silk bed linen and clean, modern bathrooms. The summer kitchen was a perfect retreat in the heat of the day and the cool of the evenings whilst the dining room provided a more formal and functional location from where to enjoy to enjoy the local specialities we bought from the markets. The pool was a real hit with the children and also a necessity for the adults when the temperatures soared. The best trips out for us as a family were white water river rafting just south of the autoroute A64 (about 20 minutes from the chateau) and fantastic mountain biking in Bagneres de Luchon - a ski resort in the Pyrenees (about 40 minutes from the chateau) where we "pedalled" downhill for over 20km having taken the ski lift up! We also booked a gorge walking trip in Luchon which proved an intense but very exciting way to survive a hot afternoon. The nearby town of Aurignac offers wonderful views over the surrounding countryside, chances to glimpse the real France through open doorways and a variety of welcoming eating and drinking establishments. When not out and about exploring the quiet lanes around the chateau on our bikes, we were all more than happy to stay "at home" and appreciate the peace and quiet of the surrounding countryside only occasionally marred by the sounds of hunting parties searching for wild boar! I would thoroughly recommend Chateau Floran for anyone keen to explore the surrounding areas on bike or by car, anyone who likes an adrenalin surge or two and anyone who enjoys a bit of peace and quiet or two possibly with a glass or three of good local wine!
