Imagine yourself staying in a 1200 sq. ft, 3 bedroom, 1 bath log home, on a quiet lane. You wake up, drinking coffee on the deck, nestled among tall aspen and spruce trees, backing up to a mountain stream, with views of The Continental Divide Alpine Range from the large, front windows. Shut your eyes, and roll back to the 50's - knotty pine, original rounded refrigerator and stove, retro chairs and table, BUT wireless internet, flat screen TV's, down comforters, gas fireplace. Forget your busy outside life, and relax in the cool, mountain air.
The house is located approximately 8 miles from a super Walmart in Salida, and 8 miles up to Monarch Ski area, a 10 minute drive. Picture yourself- skiing fresh powder in the morning, lunch at the house, then back for 3 more hours of skiing. Or, cross country skiing. Or, snowmobiling with the family, dogsledding thru the meadows, snowshoeing on mountain trails. You'd think this was high season, but, oh the summers! You would love mountain biking the Monarch Crest Trai; it is right outside the front door. Then, you could hike and ski the 13ers and 14ers, as seen from the living room windows. Next day? Take your friends and family on a world class white water rafting or kayaking on the Arkansas River. And fishing - it's a Gold Medal River! Fly fishing is some of the best in the world. Next day, drive up to the many ghost towns, 4 wheel adventure riding, cross country horseback riding, hiking the Continental Trail or Colorado Trail. 30 minutes to Mt. Princeton Hot Springs. Grab a good book, chair, and head back behind the house to the Little Arkansas River for quiet time.
Creature comforts? 53in. flat panel TV in living room, 24 in. TV in large bedroom, DVD, VHS, assortment of DVD's, books, games. Satellite internet, gas fireplace, large deck with porch, outdoor gas grill, small porch in front. King sized bed, queen beds in other two bedrooms. Beds all have 400+ Egyptian Cotton Sheets, down mattress covers, down comforters, 100% Egyptian cotton towels. Front loading washer and dryer with iron.
Six people in 3 bedrooms is perfect, but if needed, there's a full pull out sofa bed in the living room.
The town of Salida is 8 miles east on hwy 50, and offers many amenities: wonderful restaurants, art galleries, live music, hot springs pool, white water rafting, pubs, horseback riding, mountain and road biking, fly fishing in the Gold Medal Arkansas river, bowling, hiking and biking trails all within walking distance of downtown. This is a all year round paradise!

Summary: This was a great spot for us during our stay in Salida during the time surrounding her funeral. It is a peaceful mountain cabin with privacy and mountains surrounding the spot with a creek running behind. Very clean with everything we needed available. Good place for us to gather - especially loved the fireplace!

Summary: The neighborhood was gorgeous especially during the changing of the colors. The spot was easy to find off the highway and instructions from the owner made check in extremely easy. I would love to rent this location again in the future!

Summary: This home was centrally located relative to our many, chosen fishing locations. It had everything we needed, and the beds were exceptionally comfortable. House was clean and smelled of disinfectant when we arrived; unlike in the ‘old days,’ a good thing, these days. (The disinfectant odor dissipated within a couple of hours.) As we were there for seven nights, it was great having a washer and a dryer. Because we were driving/fishing every day until late afternoon, we, unfortunately, did not have the opportunity to sit on the back porch and enjoy its peaceful setting (and the occasional resident mule deer.) All appliances worked well, and the shower had a strong spray with plenty of hot water. Bathroom had good lighting, and vanity had a ‘knee hole’ and seat. Communication with the property manager was great, and she even checked on us through email after we had arrived to make sure all was well. She even gave us an emergency contact, should something have popped up unexpectedly. Quiet neighborhood and the residents are very friendly. Only two relatively small issues; lighting in the living/den area is very poor if you are trying to tie knots or read printed materials late afternoon and beyond; and, the living/den seat cushions are fairly broken down and not overly comfy, but they are clean and not worn-looking. Kitchen was more than adequately stocked; with dinnerware, flatware, and cookware. It also had quite a number of spices, oils, condiments, and food-saving/cooking goods. Freezer had four trays of ice, ready to use. I recommend this property and would rent it again with no qualms.
