3 Bedroom House in Dunkirk

Peaceful Lake Living in Modern Comfort
Relax and unwind at Lake Dreams Cottage. Located on a quiet country road, this 100+-year-old home is newly renovated with modern amenities, style, and plenty of room for an amazing family gathering.
UPDATED: currently, pursuant to the town, we must take reservations for a minimum of 30 days. This has been reflected in our daily pricing.
Enjoy swimming, fishing or beach glass hunting, watch the spectacular sunsets over Lake Erie, and help yourself to lawn games, grilling, and lots of outdoor seating. If you get a rainy day, enjoy the well-stocked game room, streaming TV services, or curl up in the reading nook with a book from our library. We’ve taken care to provide all the amenities you need -- all you have to do is show up and start making memories!
Gorgeous, full-view sunsets, the lake is steps out of the back door. Wall of windows in the back for stunning views of the lake from the living room (lake room), sunroom/dining room and kitchen. Historic 100 year old+ cottage that has been lovingly renovated. 3 bedrooms each with a queen bed with water views from every bedroom! Living room, game room, 2 full bathrooms, one with walk in tile shower and rainfall showerhead, one with tub and shower combination.
Recently renovated kitchen and bathroom including granite countertops in the kitchen and bathroom, 3 queen beds, one sleeper sofa, 2 bunk beds (weight limit of 85 pounds on the upper bunk). We have a fully stocked kitchen. Since we use the house so often ourselves, it is well-supplied with dishes, cooking and baking items we use most often. We have a regular coffee maker, a single serve Keurig coffee maker and a tea kettle. The stove is gas and there is a microwave and dishwasher. We have inside and outside dishes.
We provide all linens and towels--except beach towels. You must provide your own towels to use at the lake.
Thinking of a place to relax during the cold months? Why stay at the lake? You may be lucky enough to watch the bald eagle and her babies on the ice. Or watch the ice shift formations. Or how the sun reflects of the water that is so calm that it looks like grass. Or watch the waves. It’s always different and always beautiful. There are two fireplaces—one is a gas fireplace stove upstairs in the balcony bedroom and the other is an electric fireplace (which has a separate button for heat if you just want to watch the flames) in the tv console table in the lake room. There are separate temperature controls for the upstairs and downstairs. We are 45 minutes from prime Western New York skiing.
The water level outside of our back door is shallow for many yards out and there are sandy spots as well. Lake Erie is rocky so we suggest water shoes for comfort. The metal stairs are seasonal only. We may have to remove them if the weather conditions warrant it during your stay so they do not get damaged. They will be installed for you if conditions allow. Please do not try to add or remove them. Please note that we may have to remove them during your stay if conditions are bad. We will contact you if that needs to happen. It takes about 10-15 minutes and we do not need access to the house.
You can fish directly from the backyard--small mouth bass and walleye. One of our guests caught a 6 pound fish standing in our backyard! We have a bait shop within a 3 minute walk from the house. We do not provide fishing gear but we do have a charcoal grill to cook up what you catch! We suggest you look up NYS fishing regulations for more information.
The house is over 100 years old and began as a small cottage. It has been added onto several times. As a result, there are steps and height differences on each level. The ground outside is uneven, including the walkway to the lake. Please mind your step. If you have difficulty walking, this property may not be the right fit for you.
All bedrooms are upstairs. There is a sleeper sofa downstairs in the living room. If you plan on using the sleeper sofa, please let us know so we can have bedding available. Keep in mind that the upper bunk bed is only rated for up to 85 lbs.
There is no air conditioning. However, the lake breezes, ceiling fans, and floor fans should keep you cool. There is a floor fan with remote in the laundry room. You may move the floor fan to whatever room you wish.
The ground outside is uneven, including the walkway to the lake.
Use care and caution at the lakefront. There is a fence, but the stairs are open. Watch your children (and clumsy adults) closely as it is a steep drop into shallow water or rocks.
Lake Erie is a very large body of water (that's why it's one of the Great Lakes!!) It can be very rough and rocky. Weather conditions can change suddenly. We are not responsible for your decision to go into the lake.
We offer a peaceful, tranquil lake experience. We do not allow parties. With permission, we may allow additional daytime overnight guests but there should never be more than 10 adults in the house. Sound carries on the water so we ask that you be mindful of that especially from 10pm-8am.
We use the house ourselves as much as we can. My son is severely allergic to cigarette smoke. We must insist on no smoking anywhere inside the property so his health and well-being. You will be asked to confirm this when requesting to book.
For security purposes, we have a Ring doorbell which monitors the driveway and front entrance. We also have a security camera in the back facing the lake. It is sporadically checked if the marine forecast calls for high waves so we know whether we need to remove the stairs to the water.
Our home is not child-proofed at all so please keep that in mind.
Seasonally, we also offer kayaks for rent during your stay. They are hard-bodied single person kayaks and one three-person, two-seat inflatable kayak. You must wear a PFD/life jacket while using per law. We provide Coast Guard approved Type 3 life jackets/PFDs for guests to wear while kayaking as part of the kayak fee.

Summary: The cottage was a few feet from the shore of Lake Erie. The gentle breeze coming through the windows was refreshing. The waves lapping on the shore was very relaxing. Jen the owner had the home fully stocked. I was amazed at how well she treated me. I assume she treated all her renters the same way. I'll definitely return for future visits.

Summary: I was looking for a place that was on the water and a place that was enough by itself for a relaxing vacation for my family. Wow ~ Did I find it!! The cottage was exactly as pictured, very cozy, yet roomy for 6 adults and 2 dogs. The lake was beautiful and the sunsets were breathtaking! I sat in the Adirondack chair by the water for hours, just enjoying the view and the sound of the waves.. A night storm rolled in over the lake and gave us a spectacular lightning show! The sound of the waves crashing lulled you to relaxation. We rented Jen's kayaks which were so enjoyable! A couple of us had never kayaked before and we kayaked into the sunset which was very serene. Jen was an amazing host and made sure the cottage was stocked with everyday essentials. During our stay we visited a few wineries which were close by and brought back some souvenirs. If you're looking for a relaxing, beautiful place on the water this is it!

Summary: Jen, the host, was amazing. A great communicator who went above and beyond to make our stay amazing. We arrived a little early and caught her finishing up some last Minute touches. We got a personal tour of property and little helpful tips. She even messaged mid stay about a meteor shower and clear skies for viewing. The cottage was quaint and cozy but with enough room for everyone and several little nooks for reading or relaxing. The weather was perfect and even though there is no air conditioning we stayed nice and cool during our 75 degree weekend. The cottage is wonderfully appointed and we are already planning another trip back. It is a perfect step off point for exploring the area and daytripping to Niagara Falls. We also enjoyed several local restaurants and wineries as well as fall fun at Harveat View Greenhouses. Top notch! Would highly recommend (but maybe I shouldn’t and keep this little gem all to myself)

Summary: This property truly is special. The location is serene as you fall asleep to the sound of waves, and wake up to them in the morning. We live inland so being by this large body of water was soothing for the soul. People pay for white noise of waves crashing; we felt like we were actually by the sea the whole time! The cottage itself was miraculous. Cozy atmosphere, spacious but not too big. I'm not even sure how one accomplishes a feeling of intimacy while not being cramped, but this cottage achieves that. There's plenty of space for different people to do different things if you need to get away during your getaway! From the reading nook upstairs, to the playroom downstairs, to the space on the deck, the upstairs balcony, or grab the Adirondack chairs out right by the water! Most of the house fills with sunlight during the day, and the light décor really brings your spirits to a realm of relaxation. The master bedroom with the balcony is perfectly laid out and very spacious. The shower downstairs is spa like and has everything you need. I am usually skeptical about rainfall showerheads, but this one is not a drizzle, it's an even waterfall that may be one of the best rain showers I've come across so far. After many of those refreshing showers, burying my face into the luxurious towels that smelled so fresh and clean was a perfectly gift wrapped experience. Everything you need all in one place, I literally did not leave the house during our whole stay. What I loved most was how thoughtful the host was, down to storage containers and bags that came handy after meals. I'm not sure I've been to many rentals that offered this daily convenience that you don't think about packing with you when you're traveling. As a tea drinker, I was also appreciative of the kettle, as most rentals cater to coffee drinkers. The wi-fi was strong so we were able to work, however there were not many options for workspaces with a view other than the dining room... at the same time, we were trying not to work! I did enjoy writing and coloring out on the deck table. My family took a day trip up to Niagara Falls, and hit a few wineries while coming back. They enjoyed the easy trip to see one of the world's great wonders, hitting a few lighthouses along the way too. If you're looking to spend some time to recharge and rest, this place will likely hit all the spots. It felt like home to me, and I was very content. My husband and dog were able to unwind as well. Thank u
