Summary: Gertrud was super responsive, and very accessible should we need her. The place was very clean and within walking distance to everything. We used the uber scooters everywhere, which got us from the door to the convention centre in 6.5 minutes. We will stay here again for sure!

Summary: Stayed here for 10 nights with 2/3 persons of my company. Location is quiet but very close to the busy ruttenscheid street. Messe Essen in walking distance. All you need is in the apartment: dish washer, towels, cooking products, washing machine, etc. Would definitely book again.

Summary: We had a great stay at Gertrud's Rüttenscheid apartment... it was quite comfortable, and had everything we could need for our weeklong stay in Essen. The apartment looked just like the photos, and was spotlessly clean. The location is excellent, just across the street from the best museum in the Ruhrgebiet (Museum Folkwang), and just a few blocks from two U-Bahn stations that quickly get you to the Essen Hauptbahnhof, and from there, anywhere in the region. But why go anywhere beyond Rüttenscheider Straße? That street (just 1.5 blocks away) has everything you could need- grocery stores, cafes, restaurants, shops, and more. And don't miss the nearby old pub Ampütte- lots of character, great pub food, full of locals both young and old. Gertrud and her family were terrific hosts, making sure we had everything we needed- both our arrival and departure was effortless. Although this apartment would be great for business travelers, we were here to visit all the wonderful industrial tourist sites the Ruhrgebiet has to offer, and the location made it very easy to visit attractions in Essen and beyond. Hope to stay here again next time I come to the Ruhrgebiet, and I would recommend it to anyone that is staying in the area!

Summary: The place is a wonderful ground floor one-bedroom apartment that literally overlooks the Museum Folkwang (as a matter of fact, when you look out the front window you look out onto a Richard Serra sculpture). There is also a beautiful garden with a giant Monkey Puzzle tree in the back (no physical access). The bedroom is quite nice (the bed a bit soft for my taste, but that's just me) -- if you close the shades completely, you could probably sleep until noon! There were a few noises on weekend evenings from those passing (rumbling engines of cars). The living room has a nice couch that converts into a bed (we did that for our son) and a large television. The kitchen has everything you could possibly want including a dishwasher and washing machine; our hosts even provided some of the necessary supplies to get started. The bathroom is very clean (as is the whole place), with an Italian shower (though we did wonder if passers-by could see those showering ;-) ). The apartment is nicely appointed, our hosts provided us with information on sightseeing and shopping. In addition to its proximity to the museum, it is a few minutes walk from the Rüttenscheid neighborhood where you will find food and drink galore (try Co-Co-La -- Vietnamese restaurant -- and Tofino -- some of the best hamburgers (meat and soy) you will ever have). Essen is not necessarily the most touristy of German cities (except for Zollverein and the Villa Hûgel obviously) but we had a very nice week: we even went to a Rot-Weiss-Essen match, something we recommend everyone to do. We were just sorry that the Philharmonic was closed. Maybe next time. Gertrud and Manfred are charming, very discreet. With their few words, we were made to feel welcome. We hope that we will be able to stay here again on our next visit to Essen.
