Taos is synonymous with art, history and natural beauty, but few homes offer such a unique experience of all three as Adobe de Artista. One of a handful of custom adobe homes designed and built by local artist / painter and celebrity Ed Sandoval, this adobe brick Taos vacation rental allows guests to stay inside a livable piece of local art with nearly 360-degree views of both mountains and sagebrush mesa. The interior pays homage to Taos Pueblo while incorporating modern residential expectations and artistic whimsy.
Guests will experience living as the Taos Pueblo Indians have for 1,000 years, amid straw-flecked adobe plaster walls, bancos and wood-burning kiva fireplaces; some even glitter with gold-like pieces of mica, a naturally-occurring element in the surrounding land which gives pottery from the Taos Pueblo it’s distinctive appearance.
Other more contemporary artistic details abound, with playful painted swirls of color on walls, down to the equally fun variety of light switch plates. What Sandoval calls a “conversation pit” is sunken in the middle of the inviting great room – a semi-circle of cushioned bancos designed for entertaining around the main wood burning kiva fireplace. Two other kivas help warm the master bedroom and bathroom, though modern radiant floor heating exists beneath the Saltillo tile floors as well.
Sleep like a baby on a bed appointed with pillow-top mattresse, and bathe or shower as if in an outdoor garden in a step-down river stone tub surrounded by plants in the master bath – an architectural surprise in itself.
The furnished kitchen, which provides New Mexico-created Nambe silverware, makes cooking at home a relaxing event. A window above the sink overlooks Taos Mountain, and complete sets of dishes, cookware and tools for grilling are provided in addition to a microwave and Keurig coffee-maker.
Take in the magic of Taos mountain and panoramic views with floor-to-ceiling windows while dining either inside in an open living area or beneath an umbrella outside on the patio, where rabbits are often seen playing. Or, enjoy wine or coffee on the secluded front portal (Spanish for covered patio) where a swinging bench also offers mountain views as well as the occasional sound of soft chimes blowing in the cool breeze. A hot tub at the back of the home soothes aching muscles after a day of Taos skiing or hiking and provides a romantic escape beneath a moonlit sky so clear you can see the Milky Way.
The exterior of our home is monitored by cameras to help ensure safety and security of both you and the property. Motion-activated clips are saved and then automatically deleted after 30 days unless needed by law enforcement. The hot tub is not under video surveillance.

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: My boyfriend and I had a wonderful stay at this location! It's always nice for us to get away and this was an amazing place to stay at! breakfast at the dining table was to die for! The sunlight coming over the mountains was so beautiful. I'd recommend making sure you're stocked on food for your stay here as doordash or similar food delivery services don't come to the location and the main store was a decent drive away. It's nice being far away from the bustle of the city but I think it's good to be aware of that fact.The hot tub was clean as was the rest of the house. The caretaker was very reasonable and prompt when we needed help. My only slight complaint about the house was that we couldn't get the hang of cooling down the house. The time of year we went was relatively cool regardless but when we were cooking in the kitchen it got a bit warm. There are fans which did the trick and we got used to. I'm sure the caretaker could have helped us but I hadn't asked because it wasn't a huge deal for us.Overall beautiful location and would love to come back some time!

The windows have views of the mountains all around. It is expertly situated in its location. Its location is both a positive and a negative. It is surrounded by sagebrush and wildlife sightings are frequent. But it is 8 miles from Taos Plaza, so you are always driving to get anywhere. You have to be happy that far out of town. We have been. This was our fourth stay at Adobe de Artista.

We have always rented lovely homes through Premiere Properties, but so far this one has been our favorite. It's a good location, 10 - 12 minutes from Taos & Arroyo Seco, but far enough out to enjoy wonderful dark skies & magnificent sunsets. The home is located in a quiet neighborhood with unobstructed views. The queen bed was very comfortable and the rock shower was nice. The kitchen was very well stocked & we enjoyed the Bose Stereo. But above all, we spent a number of hours out on the lovely back patio area with coffee in the morning & a nice glass of wine every evening, enjoying all the birds & local naturez. We'll definitely be reserving the Adobe de Artista 1 again on our next Taos vacation!

Summary: This home is designed to enjoy nature’s scenery! We loved the views as well as all the amenities the home offered. Unfortunately, there was a heat wave and the home is not air conditioned which I failed to notice when booking. There were fans which helped circulate air but the home became quite hot and uncomfortable. So if you’re traveling in the summer, that would be my only caution.

Summary: The house was gorgeous, had great views and most everything we needed. We would absolutely recommend the property!! However, we inadvertently missed a note about checking in with the caretaker before noon the day of check in for check in details and instructions to access the key. Two phone calls and voicemails, one text and an email later and no response from the caretaker. We had to call the emergency number and we were finally able to access the property an hour after sitting outside in the heat and an hour after check in time. We finally heard from the caretaker the morning of checkout, reminding us what time we needed to be off the property.
