The Space
The home has three large bedrooms, all have flat screen TVs, comfortable bedding, and fresh linens. One bedroom has a king-sized bed with a weaved headboard, one bedroom has a queen bed, and the last bedroom has a full bed, a twin daybed, and a twin trundle. The bathrooms have plenty of towels and paper products for your stay, as well.
The entire house has a tasteful decoration in keeping with a waterfront Virginia home. There are large windows and seating with great views of the river, and the family room has a large flat screen TV with an attached sunroom which also has a great vista over the water.
Outside is a 200-foot private dock that has a couple of benches, crab traps that you can use to catch blue crab for dinner, and plenty of great places to fish. There is a beach on the property’s shoreline, also a great place to enjoy the water or fish—previous renters report the croakers are biting. In the backyard is a picnic table with benches, and tables with chairs, and plenty of trees for shade and privacy.
The kitchen has the appliances and things you need to cook up delicious meals for your crew, plenty of counterspace to accommodate those larger or more complex meals, and a great place to set up dishes for buffet-style dinners.
The home also has games, movies, a chess board and plenty of televisions and sitting areas, which means your group of up to 8 guests can spread out and do the activities or relax without being on top of each other! There are also kayaks which you can use on the river.
The Perfect Day
After your favorite blend of coffee or tea is brewed, grab a cup and take a morning stroll out onto your private dock, and sit on one of the benches and watch as the Virginia river wildlife comes to life and greets the new day.
After a breakfast or brunch, set up the crab traps and grab the fishing poles for a fresh seafood feast later in the day! Or you can set up some vegetable and cheese platters and set outside while you lay out a towel on the grass in the sun (or shade) and read a good book or magazine, all the while enjoying a cool refreshing beverage.
If you are hungry for some knowledge, great dining, and a day out in the town, you can head to Williamsburg, Jamestown, or Yorktown, all of which lie across the river. There you can learn about our incredible American history up close, have a great lunch or dinner, and shop for the next great piece for your family home, which also makes a great memento of your stay!
Check the crab trap! Many guests report catching huge blue crab that are great steamed with lemon and drawn butter, with a dash of Old Bay Seasoning. Or you can cook up a feast in the kitchen and serve outside in the warm Virginia evening, filled with lively conversation as your family shares their favorite moments of the day.
Then, after the kids are settled down with a movie or are in bed for a night’s sleep, the adults can grab a glass of their favorite vintage or brew and walk out onto the dock to enjoy a lovely sunset in the arms of your loved one. A perfect end to a perfect day!
The Neighborhood
Our home is on the bank of the York River, in a secluded location that is peaceful and surrounded by nature. There are great views up and down the river of several Virginia towns that dot the far shore.
Williamsburg, Jamestown, and Yorktown are all within about a 35-minute drive and have a rich American history, perfect for those looking for a vacation that is educational and inspires, great for getting the kids excited about learning! Busch Gardens is also within a half-hour drive, and you can see their fireworks from the house!
Olivia’s In The Village is a 15-minute drive away and is a very highly rated seafood restaurant in the town of Gloucester, a perfect place to get a taste of the sea while letting someone else do the cooking!
Gloucester also has all of the places you need to make your stay a success, there are grocery and liquor stores to keep your refrigerator and pantry stocked, gas stations, and more. There is shopping as well, and art galleries to browse the local cultural talent. There is also a golf course for those looking to hit the links during their stay.
We know you will absolutely love your stay at our home!

Summary: This property was the perfect location for our family (brother, uncle, cousins) to stay while in town to see local family. Plenty of sleeping space for us to stretch out, and we thoroughly enjoyed the waterfront backyard. Sunsets were spectacular, and we enjoyed fishing off the end of the dock.

Summary: This house is a great get away for a family of 4-5. We stayed in the winter, when we couldn't even really enjoy the outdoors and it was lovely. Plenty of space for everyone to relax apart or together. The house would be terrific in the summer or fall when you can really take advantage of the doc, the little private beach and the big yard. Would be good for younger children, too. A bit of a drive to Williamsburg and Busch Gardens, but totally doable for a day. Really good property for arriving and not going anywhere for a few days of family time.

Summary: This was to be a retreat for two of my daughters and myself. One daughter is going back to work after maternity leave and the other just needed a break. We wanted something quiet, where we could read and recharge. This was perfect! We saw several pods of dolphin, bald eagles and box turtles, plus much more. This was perfect!

Summary: Our family stayed here for a long Easter Weekend. The frontage and views are amazing. The sunsets are unbelievable. Pros: -great secluded spot to socially distance -very clean - bedding and towels appeared to be brand new - stocked with firewood and propane - very quiet neighborhood, peaceful -propane fireplace was nice for the chilly nights -new appliances and pots and serving ware - Carla, from Guest Services, was very responsive and helpful Cons - the 2 back bedrooms and bathrooms could use some updating, peeling paint, doors that get stuck shut and mattresses that are old and uncomfortable. - ran out of hot water quickly and the water had a sulphur smell to it Overall a beautiful location and nice place to stay. We found a lot of the items listed in previous comments were remedied.

Summary: House was spacious with lots of room but does need some minor repairs. A nice private setting but grass was rather high in the back yard and needed cut between the house and dock. The dock was nice and we had a good time catching fish and crabs.

Summary: Don’t believe the “perfect day” description in this property listing. Indeed, all of our 7 days would have been perfect, if the house were as advertised. Rather, we found the kitchen falling apart - literally, the drawer door fell off when I pulled it. It appeared to have been glued on. The kitchen is poorly stocked with dull knives, no sheet pans (only one roasting pan), all of the skillets and pots are decades old with scratched and chipped Teflon, a cheap set of plastic mixing bowls that look like they were from the dollar store, no storage containers, and only one small warped (dangerous) cutting board. The island looks cute in the photos; in reality it is dirty and dingy. The photos also show a nice set of Adirondack chairs around a fire pit by the waterline; there were no chairs, only a rusty old fire pit. The property description also mentions crab traps for guest use. None of the 3 traps were functional; 1 was missing the bottom of the trap, the other 2 were rigged together with rope. There would be no crabbing from the crab traps, as our ‘perfect day’ promised. While the house had plenty of beach decor, if half the effort to collect Knick knacks were put into properly outfitting the house, it may have been a nice place to stay. The mattresses were old and saggy, several of the bath towels were stained and torn, two taken from Water Country USA. We referred to the home as the “House of Half Assery” because everything about it was missing effort to make it nice. For example, the chess set in the picture looks nice, but pick up a piece and the top pops off; try to take a shower but find you can’t turn on the outdoor hose to rinse your feet without shutting off the water flow to the house. In fact, don’t run the dishwasher or washing machine at the same time, you can only do one or the other. Definitely don’t attempt a shower while washing clothes or dishes. None of the bedroom door handles lock; the queen bedroom door handle was installed upside down. The twin room tv was broken. The refrigerator still has shipping film on it and it’s not pushed fully back against the wall. The house does supply toilet paper & paper towels, but there was no dishwasher or clothes detergent; bring your own everything (seriously). We rode out TS Isaias while at the property and lost power for over 24 hrs - the generator helped but we were surprised no property manager checked in to see if we needed anything or how the house fared. I won’t stay here again.

Summary: This property was very nice, very quiet, enjoyed the dock and the fire pit, check in also went smoothly....however, guests pay a cleaning fee but there were fruit gnats in the kitchen and dining room area and there was heavy lipstick left on a cup that unfortunately I didnt realize until after i had used it, i had to rewash pots and pans before using them as well
