Summary: The barn was perfect for our family vacation located in the beautiful Dordogne region. It was very comfortable and was exactly as described. Our two small grandsons loved the swimming pool, swing set and lots of room for play. The views from the barn are stunning and we never ran out of things to do close by. Matthew and Susie were the perfect hosts and very helpful with anything we needed. We would definitely recommend this beautiful barn to everyone and hope that we can return some day.

Summary: Off in the country at the end of a tiny road a couple of kilometers from a tiny village. This is what I like. Suzi and Matthew were very cordial and very responsive, yet invisible when you did not need them. They have done a remarkable job renovating this very old property. It is well-equipped and has all the modern conveniences without losing its charm. It’s close enough to get to all the interesting sites quickly, but far enough away to be completely isolated from the crowds. It’s the place to go for those who want to get away from everything in the evening. The property provides incredible views of the surrounding countryside.

Summary: This is the third time we have stayed at this property and each time we have had a great time. The barn has been converted to a high standard but still has the rustic charm of the original farm building. The location could not be more peaceful and yet there are so many amazing places to visit in the area within a reasonable drive. As well as a multitude of fine restaurants (the Petit Leon at St Leon sur Vezere was a particularly special find) and chateaux and gardens to visit there are activities such as canoeing on the Dordogne and hot air ballooning which we have tried and enjoyed. The property was clean, well maintained and as advertised and the owners Matthew and Susie could not have been more helpful. An unexpected plus was that as there is so little light pollution there, the opportunities for star gazing are amazing - for many this could be their first opportunity to see the Milky Way - mind blowing! We would certainly recommend a stay here and we will be back.

Summary: Driving down through France, we spent a week in the Loire Valley and a week in the Perigord Vert before arriving at Matthew and Susie's wonderful property in the Perigord Noir. We decided this was our favourite of the areas we stayed in, not only is the scenery so beautiful but there are numerous places of interest and activities to enjoy in the area. There was a bottle of wine waiting for us - a thoughtful touch from Matthew and Susie who have done a fantastic job of converting their barn into a spacious, comfortable, tastefully furnished, extremely well equipped gite - a real home from home. We liked being close to the main tourist sites of the Dordogne but far enough removed to enjoy relaxing in the garden, enjoying the wonderful view and tranquility. We also appreciated having a shop and a restaurant within walking distance. For us this was the perfect choice of location to explore the Perigord Noir. Matthew and Susie couldn't have been more helpful and hospitable throughout our stay and always respected our privacy. We thoroughly enjoyed our time there and would have loved to have stayed longer.

Summary: Our stay at Matthew and Susie's gite was pure delight. The accommodation is a beautifully converted "barn" with lovely, spacious living spaces, comfortable bedrooms and bathrooms, very well equipped kitchen and all the comforts of home. The peaceful location, the resounding quiet, the warm, clean, fragrant summer air and the dark night-sky, covered with stars one normally never sees, conspire to make one wish to stay forever. The incredible thing is that you can have this quality of peace and quiet and still be only 20 minutes away from the Dordogne River with its châteaux, its breath-taking gardens, the scenic boat rides etc. Restaurants are close-by as are speciality shops (for the truffle and fois-gras lovers) and other shops for day to day things. Sarlat, a medieval town nearby, is very well preserved and is "one of the towns most representative of 14th century France". The centre of the old town is a feast for the eyes and easy on the legs with many places to sit, have a coffee or cold drink, while absorbing the atmosphere. Belvès, also nearby, has been designated as one of the prettiest towns in France. In fact, there is so much to see that we felt cheated at not having had enough time to just enjoy staying at "home", at the gite. Matthew and Susie are very warm, friendly and ready to help with every request. The photo album showing their labours, in converting a derelict property into the lovely abode it is now, is fascinating and makes one appreciate the result even more. Sitting outside on our last evening, glass of wine in hand, seeing the potted red geranium against the rich green of the meadow touched by the late afternoon sun, had us logging onto the Internet in a desperate attempt to reschedule our flights home. Not possible, alas.... but no matter because we will try our hardest to return as soon as possible.

Summary: This beautifully renovated barn is situated on top of a hillside, which means a gorgeous view on the surrounding area. We were warmly welcomed by the discrete owners Susie and Matthew and their 1 year old labrador Max. The children immediately had an extra playmate. The house was very clean, nicely decorated and large enough to welcome 8 people. We had excellent weather, so the pool was used a lot for refreshment. There were festivities going on in the neighboring villages, so we never had a dull moment; on the contrary, we are probably going back to see more of this wonderful region. Summary: We stayed here with our 3 young children for 2 weeks last summer and had a fantastic holiday. The barn is so well equipped and sympathetically restored with great attention to detail. It is perfectly located in a rural and peaceful valley with wonderful views, yet it is only a short drive to all the major sights. We especially loved the overground pool and the spacious grounds for the children to run around in. Matthew and Susie were great hosts, providing us with a bit of local knowledge and advice and delicious peaches from the garden! The local restaurant serves the best moules frites for miles around and the night markets at close by Bouzic and St Pompont were hard to beat as well. We will be back!

Summary: We can't thank Matthew & Susie enough for a fantastic week in their beautiful, tasteful & sympathetically restored barn. The bedrooms and bathrooms are all decorated to a high standard and we felt relaxed and home from home, Our two teenaged boys aged 19 & 15 loved chilling out with the wi-fi, relaxing on the sunloungers and cooling down in the dip pool. We enjoyed eating the local food at the various evening markets and also the festivities & fireworks at the nearby village of Daglan. There is plenty to do & see from visiting castles to canoeing on the river. It was a great holiday for everyone as Susie & Matthew have thought of everything so all we needed to do was relax and unwind.

Summary: We stayed in this beautifully converted barn for a week in August. It has been lovingly restored by Matthew and Susie and finished to a very high standard. The barn provided us (2 adults, 3 children) with a very comfortable and spacious place to return to after a day's sightseeing (and an overgound pool to cool off in!). It is set in a rural and tranquil area with beautiful views. A car is needed but it is perfectly situated to explore the wonderful Dordogne. Matthew and Susie have a good knowledge of the local area and are more than happy to recommend places to visit and things to do. It is a 5 minute drive to the village which has a shop and bar/restaurant. We ran out of time to do everything that we wanted to do in the area so we will certainly return.
