Positive: Staff couldn't speak any English, but were incredibly helpful using translation apps. There are figurines all over the main and annex building, including 6 Perfect Grade Gundams. There is a restaurant in the property selling basashi, but if you want to travel on a shoestring budget there is a convenience right beside the property as well.
Negative: Properties in Aso are relatively expensive and this was no exception.

Positive: We arrived to ASO city somehow when travelled over Japan, it`s a small village and this hotel (rekan if this word in English is correct) is great. We arrived about 00-00 and still met a very nice man who helped us to get the keys and showed the rooms, etc. Saunas there are really great and you feel like a Samurai in Rekan and Sauna. Great people as always in Japan, I enjoyed my staying in this hotel.
Summary: Nice hotel and expereince, great people!

Positive: The place was clean and the staff was very nice
Negative: We were surprised by the fact that our booking was only for a small room with futons on the floor and shared bathrooms and baths. Based on the listing and photos, we were under the understanding that it was for a room with 3 real beds and a private bathroom. The listing is very misleading. Without a car, the location is also far from virtually anything.

Positive: The room was simple and comfortable and the shared washrooms were clean. The staff were very friendly and helpful. There are a few baths which were all quite small, a couple of them had to be reserved but a few were open to use whenever. They were all private and nice to use, especially after the rain. Also, the curry that they served was one of the best I’ve had in Japan! Plus there’s a Familymart right next door.

Positive: Lovely quaint vibe to Asobe Staff very helpful and funny, I don't speak much Japanese but somehow they managed to translate humour over to me Buildings in good condition and lots of choice of onsen bath washrooms Bedrooms small but comfortable. Good amenities.
Negative: Accessibility would be an issue for anyone without a car, or a bicycle at a push. Not really a detraction from the property itself, but it's to be expected with the area.
Summary: Asobe has a quaint vibe, with excellent value and charming & helpful staff - it would be my go to for a solo travel

Positive: Even though the staff members couldn’t speak English, they were very hospitable and always willing to help. The rooms and common areas were also renovated recently and felt like new.

Positive: The hot spring is very good. The hot spring is so privacy as you need to reserve the hot spring. It is also very good to have a convenience store besides Asobe. You can go to buy food and snacks any time.
