Romantic and well-kept attic in a stone cottage located in a mountain village overlooking the lake (Sanico 950 slm). In about twenty minutes you can be in Bellano or Varenna (where there is boarding for Menaggio and Bellagio).
In the northern part of the lake there are the beaches of Dervio and Colico where to sail, windsurf or kitesurf and where there is now also a beautiful swimming pool.
However, you can choose to stay in the mountains and enjoy the coolness of a nice walk, for example in the woods of Pian delle Betulle or to experience the thrill of paragliding from the Alpe di Giumello.
In winter you can finally ski enjoying the magnificent panorama of the lake below.

Summary: We escaped the summer heat (early August) for a week up in the fresh air of Sanico. The house was exactly as described, very old and full of character, and with all the modern comforts (dishwasher, washing machine, good shower, etc). A real alpine hideaway. We left the windows open all the time and had a fresh breeze coming through the place, as well as a gorgeous view of Lake Como off of the balcony. Our two small children (3.5 and 4.5) appreciated the toys and the bunk beds. Our bed was comfortable as well and everything was immaculately clean. There are also some fun touches and all is well designed and kept. Our only complaint, which is obviously not in the owner's control, is the church bells. We thought it wouldn't be an issue (and, we like them, in general) but they chime every thirty minutes, round the clock. Too much! Maybe that only happens at certain times of year, but if you're a light sleeper, it kinda kills the otherwise totally peaceful night. Other things: wonderful location for walks - San Grato is just a 10 minute walk down the hill and we loved taking the trails from there and also eating at the rifugio. Our boys played at the little playground there while we had drinks on the patio, and we all thought we'd died and gone to heaven. Many more walks in easy range, and so many nice places to find food and drink on the way. Easy to drive down to the lake too, with the endless things to do there. We found Varenna to be the prettiest town, and it has a parking garage so it's easy to catch ferries to/from there. All in all it felt like an escape to a very special part of the world, and the house was a comfortable, cozy base for us. We hope to come back very soon.

Summary: Beautiful and very comfortable little mansard appartment with a wonderfull view from it's balcony to the mountains and the lake of Como. Very polite reception by Marialuisa, who was always there to help. Sanico is a very small and calm village with (almost) no tourism at all. Therefore it is the absolute contrast program to the tourism down at the lake.

Summary: We stayed at the apartment for 8 nights in the summer holidays. We are a family of 5 with older children aged 21, 19 & 16. We were very pleased with the detailed friendly information sent to us by the owner Alessandra. Her neighbour Maria Luisa met us on arrival and was very kind and helpful throughout our stay. The apartment was super. Great views from the balcony. Very well equipped, modern, clean and stylish. Home from home. We felt very comfortable and slept well. The area round about is charming and interesting with many nice walks nearby. Bellano at the bottom of the mountain is lovely without being too touristy. We spent time in the neighbouring town of Dervio where there were areas to swim in Lake Como and have a nice pizza overlooking the lake. Lots of small towns alongside the lake to explore. All in all a fantastic base for a true Italian experience! Thank you so much Alessandra!😀

Summary: We stayed for a week in this very nice apartment in Sanico, which is a little village on the eastern side of Lake Como high up in the hills. The apartment is very nicely furnished, very well maintained and equipped and has a beautiful view of the mountains and the lake. Communication with our host was very pleasant, and the reception upon arrival very welcoming. Booking, payment, getting directions, arrival and departure went smoothly and without any problems. We felt very comfortable and can very much recommend this apartment. Thank you very much Alessandra and Marie-Luise for your hospitality. Even though the distance to Bellano on the lakeside is only around 15km, a lot of driving on small and very steep roads is required since Sanico is on around 1000m above sea level and Lake Como around 200m.

Summary: We really enjoyed our stay in Sanico. The accomodation was clean, ample and stylish. The village is perfect base for both mountain walks and lakeside people watching, we also fitted in a day in Milan on the train. You are quite a drive from the main tourist spots but this means that you are away from the hustle and bustle of tourists and can enjoy the stunning view of the lake in peace. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely return.

Summary: The apartment is very nice and looks exactly as described. It is the perfect location for those who like peaceful environment and want top escape the heat of the lake many tourists in the lake. You can go to trips in the lake area early in the morning when it is cooler and spend the hot hours in the apartment and area. View is wonderful. Local Pizeria provides dinner and amazing view.

Summary: A wonderful place for people who love silence, peacefulness, nature and view. From the balcony you can enjoy a wonderful view of the lake and Mennagio. The house is very beautiful and professionally restored, the mandarda is designed with attention to detail, modern and brigth, exudes a warm and cozy atmosphere. Everything is there, what you need, even washing machine and dishwasher. The owners were extremely friendly and helpful, thank you Alessandra & family! Also the neighbor Maria Luisa, who lives next door and was our local contact person, thank you too Marialuisa & family :-) The little village Sanico is a wonderful peaceful location to go hiking directly from the house, far away from tourists and noise. Spectacular views from many points. You should love it to drive with your car on many small winding roads. We will come back for sure.
