The Maison de Maitre exudes French charm and character with many stylish features all restored to a high standard.
The stone walled fireplace, wood burning stove, oak beams and limestone-tiled floors evoke a previous era but with all the benefits of modern living incorporated within the bespoke kitchen.
This beautiful, Charentais house has its own dedicated terrace and is set within a garden of established trees, an orchard filled with apple, pear, plum and cherry trees with a swimming pool.
The Pool is protected and heated by an Abri which maintains the temperature at 28 to 30 C. During very hot weather we remove the Abri and use a summer cover for easier access. Pre COVID the property was let as two Gites but we now let it as one thus allowing you exclusive use of the house,pool and grounds. We live on site in the converted barn but you can be assured that we keep a low profile during the letting period but are on hand to deal with any issues should they arise.
The property is ideally suited to a large family or can be shared with two families or close friends.
The Gite is situated in a peaceful hamlet, with a wealth of tourist sites, activities and attractions to suit the whole family, close by.
Less than a mile away you have two supermarkets, an organic butcher, a patisserie and two bars/restaurants.
The market town of Civray, with a 12th century Romanesque church, situated on the Charente river, is within walking/cycling distance from the house, holding markets twice weekly. Walking, cycling, Zip wires, tree top walks and canoeing are all within a short distance plus a plethora of unspoilt, historic villages/towns to explore.
We have now added en-suite facilities to the two upper floor bedrooms and double glazed all the windows which have built in fly screens.

Summary: Faultless. Terrific hosts, very friendly. Food and drinks provided for us on arrival which was a lovely touch. Would go back in a heartbeat. The kids absolutely loved the garden, pool, frogs, lizards. Breathtaking sky at night, saw the milky way and an owl in flight. Don't hesitate to book.

Summary: Absolutely beautiful and perfect. The hosts Mich and Adrian were absolutely amazing. We was a group of two families 7 of us altogether. When we arrived Mich had made us all a lovely Lasagna with salad and even made us a pudding too. The fridge was full too including wine. The house was absolutely beautiful plenty of room for all of us. Everything you could think you would need on holiday Mich and Adrian had it covered and available. The garden is wonderful lots to look at they have a little orchard with lots of fruit trees. The outside facilities including a swing set for children was very well used by the children they loved to play outside. The swimming pool and hot tub are all secured behind a fence which is great so you don’t have to worry about children playing in the garden. The children absolutely enjoyed playing in the pool just as much as us adults did. We had some lovely days out to Civray. We parked near a park and enjoyed a lovely walk into the centre square. We also went to La Vallee Des Singes which is the monkey park and we went to the indoors crocodile place which both are great the children really enjoyed both. We also drove into Poitiers which is lovely to walk around and enjoy the sites. The box of leaflets that’s available in the house came in very useful too and Mich and Adrian also gave us some recommendations of places to go. Will definitely recommend and we will most definitely be going back. Thank you Mich and Adrian for making our holiday certainly one to remember x

Summary: We have just thoroughly enjoyed 10 days staying at the Gites De Vergne. Both Gites are tastefully presented, very comfortable and well equipped. The location is beautiful and peaceful with lovely spacious gardens, good sized swimming pool and hot tub. The owners/hosts went out of their way to make us feel welcome providing a welcoming and tasty first night meal and provisions for breakfast. Would highly recommend.

Summary: We have just spent the most wonderful week at this lovely gite. The setting is beautiful, the kindest hosts you could imagine and a huge variety of activities within 30 minutes - canoeing, mazes, a fantastic wildlife park...what more could you want?! We were 3 adults and stayed with our 3 children (ages 7, 5 and 2), the gardens were stunning, the pool was safe and fun and the gite contained every imaginable luxury. But the highlight of our stay were our lovely hosts. We have used VRBO for over 10 years and have had fabulous experiences, but Adrian and Micheline are the kindest, most thoughtful hosts we have met to date. We consider ourselves lucky to have booked this lovely gite and very much look forward to returning!

Summary: We have three children (aged 9, 8 and 9 months) and stayed here for just under two weeks. Michele and Adrian are brilliant hosts and were so kind and welcoming. When we arrived, the fridge was filled with various delicious local essentials to get us started, including an amazing (and huge) homemade lasagne and pavlova. The house was clean and had everything we needed, and there is a washing machine in a separate out-building which was really useful. The gardens are lovely and the children really enjoyed the swings and the pool, particularly as the weather was so hot during our stay. We loved our stay and were really sad to leave!

Summary: Great location, weather and owners. The property is in quiet location surrounded by owners grounds, gardens and great sized pool for our children to enjoy. Lots to do around for all types of holidays, yet you can relax in peace at the Gite. Owners were fantastic and they could not do enough for us and were a lovely couple. We are 100% going back next year and taking family with us. I can not highly recommend this Gite enough, thank you for a lovely holiday and great memories.

Summary: From the moment we booked this property nothing could have been too much trouble for our host Miche and Adrian. Upon arrival we were certainly not disappointed. Masion de Maitre's large rooms are furnished with a mixture of antique and contemporary furniture in great style. The beautiful kitchen/living room is very well equipped and the icing on the cake was the lovely meal awaiting us upon arrival, plus a fridge stocked with goodies to ease us into the holiday mood! The gardens surrounding the property were beautiful and the pool and sundeck so inviting it was hard to drag ourselves away. However we managed it and found Civray to be sleepy little town with all the basic amenities one needs and one or two good restaurants. A visit to Poitiers is also recommended should you feel the need for 'bright lights'. All in all a wonderful location and fantastic hosts. Thank you for letting us share your lovely home. We hope we can visit again sometime.

Summary: If you are looking for a little taste of Shangri-La with a simple yet classy touch look no further than this quaintly contained paradise. My family and I arrived at this beautiful Gite and received such a personal and warm welcome from Miche and Adrian the Hosts. Miche had prepared a tasty lasagne and a home grown salad accompanied by a delicious Pear Torte! the fridge was stocked with cheese and croissants and wine and yummy strawberry jam.....it was an exceptional first impression! The willingness to help in any given situation and the openness we received from these gorgeous hosts was unforgettable!!! We will certainly be steering many more people in your direction so that they can too experience their little taste of heaven!! Thank you so much once again for making our stay memorable!

Summary: What a fantastic reception from the owners, locally grown ingredients prepared for us in our welcome meal plus a well stocked kitchen full of goodies for our stay. The pool was definitely inviting and utilised on a daily basis. I would thoroughly recommend this tranquil idyllic setting to anyone, fantastic value for money and nothing was too much trouble for the owners who made us feel more like family than paying guests.
