Located within an easy 5 minute walk from the heart of Soriano's pretty winding streets and excellent local amenities, this relatively undiscovered lively town, reminiscent of those of nearby Tuscany and Umbria, yet untouched my mass tourism, offers visitors the chance to discover a truly authentic Italy, while still enjoying an excellent variety of bars, fantastic yet reasonably priced restaurants, traditional stores providing superb local produce and a Friday morning weekly market.
A 15 minute drive to the beautiful historic larger walled medieval city of Viterbo, an hours’ drive from Rome and less than a 30 minute drive north to the neighbouring borders of Tuscany and Umbria, Apartment Oleandri’s location in northern Lazio, together with its own allocated parking, provides the ideal base to explore this area’s magnificent towns, lakes and coastline all close at hand and easily accessible by either car or rail. Getting a feel for Soriano living; The town’s main square is the living hub of the community and an integral part of daily life. Stopping off at Bar Roma in the morning for the perfect Italian coffee and pastry and enjoying an evening aperitivo on the piazza while watching the world go by at Bar Centrale, are daily Sorianese past times not to be missed. Be transported back in time by exploring Soriano’s pretty medieval streets, fountains and churches in the heart of the town that lead up to the 13th Century Orsini Castle. Visit the Renaissance fountains of Papacqua and Palazzo Chigi-Albani and enjoy fantastic meals at restaurants Tre Scalini, La Baita La Faggeta or Il Carolino to name but a few, overlooking the valley below providing the perfect setting for al fresco dining on warm Spring and Summer evenings, and its only around the corner from Apartment Oleandri.
Throughout the year towns and villages throughout our region of Tuscia come together in celebrating their own unique festivals, mixing Catholic heritage, ancient customs, Jazz music and proud culinary traditions. An area famous for its cuisine reflecting the regions vast woodlands and lakes, foods such as mushrooms, cherries, wild boar, olive oil and pecorino cheese are in abundance and widely celebrated, from wine in Montefiascone to chestnuts in Soriano. Many popular festivals are held throughout the Autumnal Harvest Season with the arrival of the grape, olive and hazelnut, often resulting in one of the best times to visit the area for days spent sight-seeing when daily temperatures in Autumn commonly remain around 23°C. However it is in the spring and summer months when Tuscia’s festivals are in full swing, with seemingly a festival for every day of the week! Please see our website for further details.
Our hometown of Soriano nel Cimino celebrates one of the largest festivals in the area with its wonderful 'Sagra della Castagna' or Chestnut Festival. During the first three weeks of October, visitors are transported back in time walking the town’s decorated medieval streets and immersed into a medieval world, from grand medieval parades and ancient battle re-enactments to medieval sports; flag throwing, jousting and archery. Over 500 participants in medieval costume represent the four quarters or contradas of Soriano; Papacqua, La Rocca, San Giorgio and Trinita, who compete against each other throughout the course of the festival. Visitors also have the chance to partake in lively celebrations held at each of the contrada’s four tavernas by joining the ‘Sorianese’ in sampling a variety of fantastic local 5 course meals. It's the perfect time to visit!

Summary: Wonderful views. The amenities in the apartment were some of the best we've encountered. We particularly appreciated the information about the town and the areas around it.

Summary: We (2 adults and 2 children 8 & 10) spent a week in this apartment. We booked on the strength of the reviews and were not disappointed in the slightest! The apartment is spacious, well-appointed and brilliantly located - you get an amazing view of the town with the ability to walk into it very quickly. We were there at the end of July and it was very warm (but not extreme heat) but we found the apartment cool and well equipped with fans and air coolers (which we didn't use) for a typical Italian summer. The third floor location means you get a great view of the town and the stairs are not onerous. Soriano itself was great, we loved it. It has everything you need, with a good selection of restaurants, bars and ice cream. It feels like a proper town (it's full of interesting shops selling useful things), and was very friendly and we felt instantly comfortable. It's very well located, we did the day trip to Rome, visited the Monster Park and went to Spoleto and Lake Bolsena, but we also had a couple of rest days, just hanging out at the apartment and in Soriano and they were probably everyone's favourite days! Daniela was extremely helpful and prompt in dealing with all communication. We found the whole experience faultless and would definitely like to go back. Thanks very much!

Summary: Great location, stunning views and lovely, well-appointed apartment (6 flights of stairs & no lift! So we’re much fitter now!!) Also no WiFi. We did however have a few issues with the heat in a top floor apartment with no aircon! (especially as we had a 7-month old baby with us). Daniela was very helpful and DID equip us with 2 extra fans but even at night, the temperature still never dropped below 30 degs! She IS going to get a new air cooler installed but we don’t think this will be sufficient to cope with the summertime heat in Soriano. Despite all that, we loved our time there!

Summary: We stayed the second weekend of October in the appartment and enjoyed it to the max. Parking is no problem with a reserved spot in front of the building. Only 5 tot 10 minutes walk to the center of the lovely medieval village. Good choice of restaurants and coffee bars. Coop supermarket 5 minutes by car. The appartment itself however is the best. A great view out of the window onto the castle and the village. Two excellent bedrooms with two separate bathrooms. Two relaxing couches and a fully equiped modern kitchen. The living room very nicely decorated, spacious and bright. All tourist information available and Daniele always ready to pick up the phone for any imaginable question. We'll be back for certain! Jaap and Astrid

Summary: This is a fantastic find in a lesser known part of Italy. The flat is on 3rd floor but has a large light open area lounge and diner including two large sofas and French windows onto a small balcony. Two adequate sized double rooms and two bathrooms complete the deal. The flat is spotlessly clean and very well maintained with quality fittings. Parking is outside. The owners are very helpful and just a text away if you need help. It is our second visit and we loved the flat, location and Soriano and its friendly people. Looking at the picture the Cathedral spire is to the right of the castle and this fronts the town square. Between you and the town is a very deep valley in which a local shady park with fountains and café is located. A 6-8 minute walk up the hill to the right brings you round the top end of the ravine and into the town square. There are 5 or 6 good Bistro's in the town, we make a point of visiting them all. They are all good value, basic Italian food and ample portions so beware. There are some shops within a few minutes walk for essentials and green groceries. The Co-Op is a 5 minute drive away and there is another smaller supermarket in the town. Soriano is a UK undiscovered gem at present. Unlike Tuscany it is not overpriced and real value for money. A coffee in the town square costs 1.5Eur not 3.5Eur. Rome is close by, either the local train (2 hr scenic route from the Station 3 mins walk away) or 40 min express from Orte Station and costs 5-6 Eur each way. Nearby there are 3 large lakes to visit within 20 - 40 minutes by car and the coast about 1 hr away. The large town of Viterbo is also Just 20 mins west and there are numerous hilltop towns to visit like Orvieto, Terni or even Perugia. In August lots of local events, markets and fairs take place in the local villages. We booked an overnight Air BNB away and drove down to Versuvius and Heraculeum (3 hr drive) which was on our bucket list. During High season for a week or so there are evening events down in the park with live bands, some tribute bands (Queen and Dire Straits) were excellent. if you are old and crotchety and want to sleep buy 10 this may be a slight issue and you will want to shut the doors. If you are like us, old and not so crotchety, you will either want to walk down and have a relaxing drink and perhaps a meal in the park or sit on the balcony with a bottle of local wine and enjoy it. Frankly this is a gem of a find.

Summary: We spent a family (2+2) Holiday week in the flat at Soriano and our only regret was that we did not book for two weeks. Firstly, the 3rd floor flat is very large and spacious. It was Immaculate and spotlessly clean with a modern airy feel. Frankly the brochure pictures do not do it justice by any means. Our reception was great with a welcome basket containing some local produce. The flat was located opposite the main town and a few minutes’ walk around the top of the ravine brought you to the centre where all the locals we met were very welcoming and friendly. The flat has free parking outside as well as a restaurant just next door! There were several good and reasonably priced restaurants in the town plus pizza and gelateries etc. Prices Generally were much lower and the food better that those encountered the following week in Chianti. A small local shop is located a few hundred meters down the hill and a green grocer just up the hill. The main CO OP supermarket was a 4-minute drive down by the football stadium for stocking up. We went to Rome by train for the day (35 mins) and parked at Orte station for a couple of Euros all day. Staff very helpful and it could not have been simpler. Going after lunch avoided the main heat and rush and we found plenty of good reasonable restaurants for an evening meal after sightseeing. A short 20 -30 minute drive gave access to one of three lakes to spend the day with all the usual amenities and plenty of pedaloes / swimming for the kids The Etruscan tombs at Tarquinia on the coast were well worth a visit as was the local Museum. The Castle / Gaol in Soriano is only open weekends and strangely there is a room containing a large collection of record and cylinder players charting the development of recorded music in the 19th century. A local man gave a very detailed talk on the development of recording, demonstrating first-hand the improvements by playing the machines. It was in Italian but I could get the drift of what it was about and it was a truly fascinating discovery. Frankly this was a brilliant Holiday in an unspoilt and I guess largely undiscovered part of Italy. I would recommend this property and location unreservedly and we will be going back in a year or two, I just hope it’s not already booked.

Summary: We had a lovely stay in Daniela's apartment. Everything that we needed was there, very comfortable bed, well equipped kitchen and lovely bathrooms. There was only two of us but plenty of space for a family. The town of Soriano is very pretty and the view from the apartment is stunning especially at sunrise. The town is a short walk and although this is not heavily visited by tourists it's very typically Italian. The apartment was spotlessly clean and the information about the local area is very informative. We visited Rome and travelled in by train and car on different days. This was both easy and convenient. Our only little niggle was that the water in the showers went from hot to cold and back to hot again. This in no way reflects on our rating and would not hesitate in visiting and staying here again. Thank you Daniela.

Summary: Started our Italian road trip with a week in Soriano at this lovely apartment. Fantastic view and the apartment was beautiful, clean and well equipped. 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms and a stunning view. 5-10 minute walk into the main square where there was bars and restaurants. Not touristy when we visited in September which we liked.

Summary: Apartment Oleandri is a very well equipped, very well maintained and well placed modern apartment. The views across Soriano itself are fascinating and the wider plain and mountain vistas are stunning. Support for any queries concerning the property or local services and amenities were just a phone call away or amply provided for in the very detailed guides in the apartment. Soriano itself provides a number of good quality restaurants and bars. Supplemented by excellent local produce - meat, vegetables, fruit, wine. Eat out or eat in the quality is excellent. As a touring base the apartment is surrounded within an easy 30 mile circuit with ample and fascinating history - towns, Roman, Etruscan, museums, churches, hill top towns. A visit to the castle tower provides stunning and very different views of Soriano (weekends). The Palazzo Farnese at Caprarola offers the stunning painted map rooms plus the park, fountains and sculpted gardens - best on a weekday as the park is closed on a weekend. The gardens of Bomarzo with their fascinating 500 year old statues is a must. Access to Rome is easy via Orte railway station, cheap, quick, regular, plenty of parking. This is our second visit to the apartment and Soriano over a four year period. On both occasions we have been very impressed and satisfied. We would strongly recommend the apartment and the area.
