Our farmhouse, built in 1900, is situated in a valley on five acres in the Lost River area. We describe its style as "rustic modern," meaning that it retains much of its century-old character, but has been renovated into a loft with a two-story window looking out on the pasture, a barn and the mountains beyond. The first floor has a dining and living area, fully equipped kitchen, bathroom, laundry area and a bedroom with a queen-sized bed. The dining area opens to a large deck that looks on to the mountains. There is a fire pit, charcoal grill, and loungers, perfect for relaxing with a cup of coffee in the morning, or a glass of wine in the evening while gazing at the amazing stars that are visible on any clear evening. The kitchen opens to a screened-in porch with a table and chairs. The second floor has a living area loft with a two-story window that overlooks the dining room and is furnished with a sofa and television. There is also a second bedroom with a queen-sized bed.

Summary: Cold Comfort Farm was the perfect relaxing getaway weekend. Fully provisioned, comfortable farmhouse was everything we wanted. Highly recommend for couples, friends and the outdoorsy.

Summary: There is something special about Cold Comfort Farm. It could be the momentous sky and the rolling hills and the zen cows mooing along with the whispering winds. It could be the cozy bosum of the local valley and the excellent hiking just up the road. It could even be the remote quiet—so quiet, in fact, that I can't believe how loud the city sounded when I opened the door of our car when we reached back home. We stayed for 2 weeks over Thanksgiving and I don't know exactly when it happened, but my wife and I started to believe that we were favored guests of Eric and Brett's, invited to enjoy their house while they were away. Absolutely wonderful. A joy.

Summary: I have read a lot of reviews of VRBO houses in the past but very rarely do you see so many reviews with people stating that this is there 2nd or 3rd trip. Now, I understand why. It was amazing. I can't wait to go back. It was incredibly peaceful.

Summary: We love WV and have stayed in many places. This one was our favorite, hands down. We couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful spot. In contrast with WV cabins (which are wonderful in their own right) this farmhouse was full of light thanks to huge windows and whitewashed walls throughout. It is a lovingly restored farmhouse surrounded by rolling hills, ponds, and cow pastures. Everything you need is provided and there are thoughtful touches throughout. The owners’ instructions made it easy to settle right in and communication with them was great. We can’t wait to come back!

Summary: We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at your farmhouse. The surrounding countryside was beautiful and the love and care you’ve put into every detail make it a very special place to stay. The kitchen had everything we needed to make wonderful meals at home. We also enjoyed shopping and eating locally based on your recommendations. The wood burning stove was wonderful, as were the heated towel rack and electric blankets. It was so cozy and welcoming. The candles in the windows and lanterns in the meadow were a romantic welcome after driving on dark, twisty roads. The cows, deer, and neighbor cats entertained us throughout the week. We did not want to leave.

Summary: The house and view were exceptional. You can tell that this place is loved by its owners. There are so many small antiques and interesting things. My favorite moments were when we had the screened doors open; the breeze and sound of wind chimes blew through the kitchen as I was cooking. There was a heavy rain one night and we lost power for most of the evening, so we lit candles. On our last night, it was chilly, so we lit a fire in the wood burning stone. Oh, and the only visitors we had were a dozen or so cows who came up to the gate about 100 feet from the back deck to say hello twice a day. We truly had the full farmhouse experience and loved every minute of it!

Summary: From every window, there are quintessential views of rolling hills, mountains in the near distance, wildlife, sunrises, sunsets and farm life perfection. We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 nights stay at this modernized, yet comfortable farmhouse. The setting was so peaceful and quiet. Such a wonderful change in pace from our busy lives. Highly recommend!!!

Summary: The farmhouse is nestled amongst rolling hills. We were treated to many visits by deer, rabbits and birds. The John Denver lyrics: "Almost heaven, West Virginia Blue Ridge Mountains, Shenandoah River Life is old there, older than the trees Younger than the mountains, growin' like a breeze Country roads, take me home To the place I belong West Virginia, mountain mama Take me home, country roads" Says it all. We had a wonderful experience with the house, owner and location. If you are looking to get away from it all this is the place!
