Summary: You can't dream of a better place for your holidays. The property is on top of a hill in the middle of the nature. You will enjoy a top view and a refreshing wind. Grocery at 5 mins by car and the lively city of Kalkan at 15 mins. The house and the pool are perfect. Anthony the landlord is very helpful. Great location

Summary: This is our third visit to the Writers House, so I think that say's an awful lot!....it's like owning your own beautiful hilltop villa but without the responsibility that that entails. Kalkan has become extremely popular with the "Brits" over the past decade. Which is one of the reasons why we escaped to the quiet peaceful hills of Islamlar. Sadly those days are now long-gone. Almost everywhere you look someone is building or has built a new Villa. The peace and tranquillity previously enjoyed in the surroundings of the "writers house" is unfortunately no exception to this building frenzy, with building work going on to both sides of the property. Shame! If your a lover of nature and you've never been to Islamlar I can almost guarantee you wont be disappointed as it still has an awful lot to offer. As for the "writers house" well, the pool's been re-grouted and the terrace area partly re-painted. But, the pool side furniture is in desperate need of replacement, especially the parasols. I also think that the downstairs terrace area's to both sides of the house need attention i.e. railings installed to the garden side to prevent an accident happening, and a general tiding up of the other side. All a little un-necessary and easy to remedy. Inside the house is more than adequate for a holiday stay. However, a bed top cover that fits the bed would have been nice. A cloths-horse and ironing board that were fit for purpose, wardrobe doors that stayed on the runners....all a little frustrating! I'm sure the Villa owner knows what I mean. I appreciate that it sounds like I'm being a little bit petty but as an avid supporter of the "Writers House" I feel I have the right to whinge a little... Please don't be put off by what I've written. It's a bit like moaning about your favourite football team...I'm aloud to do it but your not! And I would still book for a fourth time.

Summary: My husband and I had a fabulous holiday at Writers House. If you are looking for a very spacious villa in a quiet, rural location with spectacular views, then Writers House is a must for a peaceful holiday. The villa itself is very well equipped with plenty of room and quite a large infinity pool. The accommodation although spacious felt quite cosy and homely for just two of us but equally there would be more than enough space for six people. Islamlar is a lovely rural village with some great food to be had at the local restaurants and there are a couple of well stocked shops and small supermarket. Our favourite restaurant is Değirmen which is a 3 minute drive or a slow walk of about 20 minutes up the mountain. Like the other restaurants, they specialise in grilled trout that are farmed in the spring water flowing down the mountain, a real treat to be had. If you want a more traditional, quiet holiday in rural Turkiye then stay at Writers House, you will not be disappointed I am sure. Thank you Anthony and Amanda for sharing your house with us, we loved every minute and would not hesitate to rebook when in Islamlar again. Kind regards Tim and Fraser

Summary: Perfect place for a quiet away from it all break, we were more likely to see a goat on the hills or a tortoise on the road than another person and the views are fabulous. There's a restaurant within walking distance although we preferred others which were a short drive up the hill in Islamar village. It's about a 15 min drive into Kalkan for supplies and a bigger (and much more expensive!) choice of options to eat.

Summary: Family of 4 with two teenagers stayed 2 weeks in mid august. We loved - the views (truly great), there was plenty of space, it was noticeably cooler in Islamlar than kalkan, a lovely sound system with USB connection, a nice selection of books and local guides, great wifi. Small negatives - the power was a little glitchy (i think that they are replacing the power lines to Islamlar so this should be less of a problem in future), the third bedroom was in the basement and had separate external access (it felt a little odd being separated from child no 1), the driveway is a little steep (we grounded the car every time we left the house - sorry to the Hire company). Other stuff - we worried a little about the distance from Kalkan but it wasn't a problem, and the coolness (style and temperature) of being in the hills made it worthwhile.

Summary: Set in an idyllic quiet, private location with the most amazing views over the Taurus mountains to the Mediterranean. The villa is well equipped with two of the bedrooms and the open-plan living room opening out onto the terrace overlooking the infinity pool. This is an amazing place to watch the sun rise and set and equally to spend relaxing times throughout the day away from it all. The shelter under the apex of the terrace roof provides welcome relief from the sun and a chance to cool with a chilled glass or two; a great place for a relaxing lunch. Only a short walk to great restaurants serving similar regional dishes to those in Kalkan but about half the price. A short drive into Kalkan gives you the opportunity to visit one of the many beach clubs by water taxi, charter a boat for the day, wander the streets or just relax in one of the excellent restaurants, many of which are on the roofs of buildings overlooking the harbour. One of the nicest villas we have ever stayed in with helpful staff on hand if you need anything but never intrusive. Simply a hidden gem.

Summary: If you are looking for somewhere to escape and chill, this is absolutely the place. Really stunning villa, beautiful pool and one of the best views I've ever seen. And all this can be enjoyed without any interruptions, no traffic noise, no people noise, just sheer tranquility. I will be returning to this villa again and again as it provides everything i am looking for in a holiday. The interior of the villa is to a very high standard, with all of the bedrooms having a spacious en-suite bathroom. the furnishings are perfect and of course the wi-fi is strong (if you need it - you are escaping after all!). Kalkan is only a short drive away, about 15 minutes to the centre, where you will find a wonderful array of restaurants and some lovely walks around the old town and harbour. Also easy access to Patara beach. An amazing villa and very highly recommended!
