Specimen plantings, select trees, and shrubs create a tapestry of color and are accented by vining trellises to enjoy through the season. A large outdoor fieldstone fireplace is set like a sculpture enhancing the pleasure of the outdoors and the experience of entertaining. A rich stone patio leads way to a walkout basement and multi-tiered deck at the rear of the property with entry to the home’s kitchen. The interior, which still secures many aspects of its original history, is enhanced by a modern Tuscan Style Kitchen with granite countertops and hand-crafted cabinetry fittingly connected to a first-floor laundry room and ½ bath. Summary: We had family gathering for a local wedding and needed a space for 6 adults- we were a little worried that this space was going to be too small for all of us- but were incredibly surprised at how absolutely spacious and beautiful this home was. We had more than enough room to sleep, eat and spread out in the home. Only one shower- so it needed to be times right- but definitely manageable. The host was kind and responsive! The property is gorgeous and nicely landscaped. Cute back porch to hang out on. The property was clean and had everything we needed! Would definitely stay again if we needed a spot in the area!

Summary: The property is beautifully maintained and laid out. A lot of thought has clearly been put into the house for renters. Nice touches like candles by the bathtub and fixings for smores made it extra welcoming. It was easy to find and convenient to other activities like Dinosaur Place, Cold Spring Farm and Hog's Breath Tavern.

Summary: We attended the NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Championship over Memorial Day Weekend and stayed for 3nights. It was so nice to return to Colchester and see this little old house and it’s beautiful gardens after a long day in East Hartford. The home has character and we enjoyed the little details that showed the history, including lower ceilings, slanted wood floors, stone hearth, and interesting layout. There is a very nice deck overlooking the small back and side yards, both of which are filled with well cared for azaleas and other colorful mature plants and flowers, many of which must be decades old.. Someone has clearly spent a great deal of time over many years creating these gardens. Although the home is quite old, the owner has decorated the home with a positive and contemporary vibe. There is a big Jacuzzi tub in the bathroom. There are two bedrooms, one of which has a double bed and the other has two twin beds. TVs all have Netflix and every other channel. Wi-Fi is good. There is nothing fancy about the home’s interior and the furnishings are eclectic. That was fine with me. The town was cool. There are plenty of restaurants and a Walgreens all within a 2 minute drive and yet it has a small New England town feel. There is a gas station with a convenience store within walking distance. We had delicious breakfasts at the Red Rose cafe and Herman’s Diner and and we enjoyed pizza for dinner at the Plum Tomato. Check in and check out were painless. The owner was very responsive and courteous. There is a Keurig and an assortment of coffees, hot chocolate, tea and oatmeal. There were little notes welcoming us to the home. The owner texted us during our stay to make sure everything was great. I appreciated all of that. Only 30 minutes to the games, held at UConn. This was a wonderful alternative to staying in a hotel room. I would highly recommend this home for all of the above reasons to a person who is not looking for luxury and perfection, but appreciates the idiosyncrasies and imperfections of cool old homes as I do.
