Positive: We absolutely loved the location. It was close to one of the most beautiful streets in the USA. We walked on National Avenue every day. Very safe and quiet. Amy was very responsive to texts.
Negative: One of the rules is to take shoes off. The carpet isn’t new, in fact it is stained in many areas. We are over 70 and can manage the stairs up to the 3rd floor attic area where the room is located, but shoes do add stability to us. We complied and were careful to hold the railings. When people go to an Airbnb towels normally are included in the booking and they were listed in the description, but we had to text Amy if there were any towels. She said we could use hers, but they were not included.
Summary: Fabulous area for the North End of Rockford.

Positive: We selected this rooming house because of its proximity to our neice and her family in Rockford. (Clarification: No breakfast is included although we thought it was listed as a B&B.) Although we were concerned about the other guests when we found out that the owner/occupant was out of town, we were reassured to learn that the others were contract nurses who were staying longer than we were. (The owner was readily accessible by text and phone.) We were also pleased with the safety of the neighborhood and that parking on the street was not an issue. We believe that we had the only room with an air conditioner so our room (#3) was comfortable in the summer heat. (The room next to us had only a fan.) The kitchen on the first floor was well equipped so that one could comfortably stay there for a period of time. The wifi offered a good connection. The room was very plain and did not even include a mirror.
Negative: We were essentially in an attic (3rd floor) which we shared with one other roomer. We shared the bathroom, but we were never totally certain when it was occupied. Although the description offered "free toiletries and a hair dryer", that equaled a bar of soap and a large refillable bottle of shampoo on the floor of the tiny shower and no hair dryer. Our room was clean, but the first floor was not cleaned for the 6 nights of our stay. (A wad of paper remained on the dining room floor for our entire visit!) The towels and wash cloths were a hodgepodge from a linen closet on the second floor. Some of them had stains on them. I was really surprised that the owner would provide such a poor assortment of linens. Most of the stairs had a railing, but the second set of stairs was very narrow. We were fortunate that our neice was with us to help us carry our luggage up to the top floor.
Summary: The Belle's location in a residential area provides a safe stay in a rooming house, not B&B.

Positive: The location was perfect to do and see the sights I needed to be near to. The neighbourhood is lovely. No problem parking in front of the house
Negative: I assume this guest house business is still learning and cutting its teeth on running at a profession level. My recommendations for Amy would be to make sure each room is equipped with a mirror, chair and table top. Windows that can be opened. Please provide better quality towels and sheets. There was a table side lamp in one room but not in the other room I moved to. Very much needed. The door locking system was slightly off putting as the electronic system makes unexpected noises. Guests should not have to take off there shoes to go upstairs. There should be a hand drying towel in the shared bathroom. The front porch at Belle has a nice aspect. More should be done to make it inviting ie plants more chairs. Just a few tweaks and it will be perfect. Also guest cats should not be allowed
Summary: Maybe not the most comfortable stay but I’m glad I chose to stay at the Belle on Harlem Boulevard

Positive: The house was in a wonderful location. I was very happy that it was always easy to get a parking spot very close to it. The house is spacious and well furnished, and there was assigned room in the kitchen cupboards and in the fridge for each occupant.
Negative: Unfortunately Amy neglected to contact me with information I needed before my arrival, even though I had emailed her. Since she wasn't always readily available, it could have been a big problem if I didn't have a mobile phone. There were also no instructions in plain sight for the electronic locks. Such devices vary greatly, so I think that is a mistake.
Summary: I had a wonderful, relaxing time at Amy's.

Positive: I liked that Amy was not only a good house guest but she went above and beyond to make sure I was ok, I lost my phone, she gave me a ride to go get it. She was a very nice person and very kind hearted thank you.
