Welcome to the 2024 Season for The Bleu Bayou!

This spacious and open cottage has fantastic views across a wide part of the river to Cobb Island in Maryland; the sunrise is breathtaking. The sandy beach is perfect for spending summer days sunbathing, lounging, swimming and jet-skiing. The floor plan is open with large windows and doors to the water. The master bedroom is directly off the living room separated by large double pocket doors and looks directly out to the amazing view. The kitchen contains everything you need for cooking while at the same time watching fishermen, swans, osprey and watercraft. There are restaurants close-by with local fish and crabs on the menu. The house is equipped with cable TVs in living room and all bedrooms and wireless internet. Smart TV in the LR offers Netflix, Hulu, etc. for those who want to access their accounts.
About The Bleu Bayou: This property is updated to serve as a vacation home that meets the desirability for a perfectly relaxing getaway from Washington, D.C. and Richmond, within 65 miles from each with the beach at the back door.
The screened porch is large, 15 x 20, with a ceiling fan, and just off the kitchen so preparing food to eat outside is ultra-convenient. The french doors from the kitchen are always open when the weather is good.
The Bleu Bayou is a wonderfully quiet property during the work-week and with lots of activity on the weekends. There is a private beachfront to enjoy and a private community pier and boat ramp which may be available to guests. (If you intend to bring a boat I need to know far in advance to obtain a key. The Bleu Bayou is just outside the Town of Colonial Beach for its casino, restaurants, coffee shops and golf cart meandering - and just the right distance away from the house to be convenient.
About Westmoreland County: Colonial Beach is on the northern part of Westmoreland County, Virginia and a favorite vacation and weekend spot for Washingtonians and Richmonders.
Lower Westmoreland County is rural, abundant with wineries, a Berry Farm on the Rappahannock River and historical interests from Colonial Civil War era. Stratford Hall (the Lee family home) is nearby and there are many wildlife fish and game refuge areas. It is close enough to Washington, D.C. and Georgetown for day trips or overnight stays to visit museums and monuments or take in the nightlife and entertainment. It is also close to Old Town Alexandria, Virginia to visit artistic communities and shopping, churches and restaurants. George Washington's home, Mount Vernon, is in Alexandria and open to visitors.
Additional activities Include Kings Dominion Theme park just 45 minutes away. And our area has two major-league baseball teams, the Washington Nationals and the Baltimore Orioles for your enjoyment. You might also visit the MGM Casino in Washington's National Harbor.
NOTES:
I like to address concerns of guests from the previous year, as I do not respond to each review individually.
During off-season, like most vacation rentals, I need the time to process deep cleaning and/or changing out contents and design elements. By the end of the season the home has taken on extreme usage by the many guests enjoying the beach. Most seasoned travelers are aware of this by virtue of lower rates but for those who are not, please excuse possible problem areas if you reserve during off-Season, October through April 15. This year I will have the wood floors refinished and update some of my cookware, etc.

Summary: Bleu Bayou Cottage was the perfect house for our family of four. Our two girls (five and seven) were excited to each have their own room in the house, since there are three. The bedroom with two twin beds is small, but perfectly comfortable for our week's stay. The master bedroom opens directly into the living room area with double pocket doors, which wasn't a problem for our family. But be aware of this feature if you have a louder family. Having two bathrooms is very nice, and a spacious laundry room was great. The kitchen is rather dim at night with very minimal lighting, but is well supplied with utensils, pots, containers, etc. for cooking. We did all of our cooking for the week at the house, minus one meal out at a restaurant, so we used the kitchen extensively. The screen porch is really incredible and just about the best feature of the house. It was easy to keep our beach equipment on the screen porch, and I highly recommend bringing your own collapsible drying rack like we did so that you can hang up your bathing suits outside on the porch to dry. Super handy! We used the grill that's right outside the screen porch, and there is a hose that's convenient for spraying off sandy feet and children when you come up from the beach. Such an easy stroll directly down to the water. We loved the shallow, gentle water and almost no one else on the private beach. Always look out for jellyfish, but this summer we encountered few compared to the previous year. We will be back!

Summary: This is a great house. Quite neighborhood. Wonderful beach. It was exactly what we were looking for. 5 minutes to the store. 10 minutes to the tiki bar. Amazing sunrises. Great host.

Summary: This place was perfect for my family. My five year old and three year old loved the beach and the calm waves of the bay. I highly recommend this vacation home and plan on returning again soon.

Summary: Floors were a little dirty and kitchen items felt like they needed a rinse before using. Everything else was fantastic! Really beautiful beach views, very comfortable furniture, beds, pillows. Quiet neighborhood let us have a very relaxing stay

Summary: Stayed at Bleu Bayou (BB) with wife and friends (another couple). BB was perfect for us; "personal beach," water-front, easy entry into water- very gentle slope, quiet; but only 10 minutes to "main beach"/"down town." My wife likes to "paddle board," it was great to be able to have beach in backyard. We could easily carry boards to water, when done, easy to carry boards back, rinse off, and store in backyard. Water was warmer than expected. House has everything you really need plus; large screened back porch, full kitchen, etc. Enough restaurants to provide some variety.

Summary: This house made a perfect getaway and home base for our "American History" themed family vacation. We were within a 2-hr drive of Washington DC, Mount Vernon, Jamestown, and Monticello. Plus, there were so many things to see within that radius - Stratford Hall, Washington's birthplace, Sharktooth Beach, Crab Shacks, and on and on. In between day trips, we loved relaxing on the private beach. The depth was shallow enough for our 5yo and we never saw a jellyfish while there in July. The kids did have a blast hunting for crab shells tho. If you stay over the 4th, get ready for the best fireworks show you've seen; care of the neighbors who are maybe the best part of this property. We were welcomed like family and got a lot of good advice for things to do and see. The house was a good size for our family of 5 and had all the amenities we needed. We spent every morning and evening sitting on the screen porch and cooked dinners at home. The beds were also great. I usually struggle with VRBO beds, but didn't have any trouble here even after a two-week stay. This property was a good experience for us. We brought back some great memories, saw a lot of sights, and got to relax too. Great property. Thanks Bonnie!!
