Benoisey Cottage | Burgundy: spacious detached stone cottage in quiet village, spectacular views

2 Bedroom Cottage in Benoisey

This tastefully renovated stone cottage in the village of Benoisey, with magnificent views, has been sympathetically restored by its owners and retains its French character, whilst containing all modcons. The kitchen/diner with its original flagstone floor and woodburner is fully equipped, and there is a separate utility room with WC. The sitting room has a magnificent table seating up to 10 as well as a second woodburner, TV, DVD and leather sofa bed. Upstairs there are 2 large bedrooms, both with double bed, wardrobe and dressing table. The 2nd bedroom with its fantastic exposed beams, also has a double futon, and there is a travel cot available if required. The upstairs bathroom has bath (with overhead shower), basin and toilet. There are 2 vaulted cellars and a large patio/ seating area with a barbecue and plenty of garden furniture. In addition, there are many games available, including boule. The garden includes flower borders, shrubs and fruit trees and borders onto farmland.
Built in 1840, La Cheneviere is a traditional French country cottage, which has been tastefully restored by its owners, since they bought it in 2004. It is close to Montbard where the TGV stops but it is a very quiet location. La Cheneviere is very much a home from home, where you can relax and 'escape from it all', reassured that the owners have thought of most things you may require- be it a sunbed in Summer or a sledge in Winter! The truly spectacular views, together with the well considered (part-covered) outside space means that relaxing on the patio or in the garden during the warmer months is sublime. The Tour of Burgundy by cycle runs along the Burgundy canal for 580 km. The canal is just at the bottom of the valley from Benoisey. http://www.le-tour-de-bourgogne-a-velo.com/ An article about cycling in the area around Benoisey is at http://experiencefrancebybike.com/bicycling-the-burgundy-canal-for-100-euro-a-day/ The welcoming atmosphere of the house, with woodburners in both reception rooms, means that it can be equally enjoyed in Winter, especially, perhaps, after a bracing walk along the Canal or across the snowy hills!
All this adds up to providing you with a holiday home that, despite the plethora of visitor attractions in the local vicinity, you will always be happy to return home. As many of our visitors will testify!

Summary: Beautiful cottage in a particularly pretty part of rural France. We stayed for just few nights to break up the long drive back from the south. How glad we did. It didn’t disappoint. House very clean and full of character and the views from the terrace spectacular. We will be back!

Summary: We had a lovely family holiday in Benoisey. The house was very comfortable for two adults and two children. The highlight was definitely having dinners outside every evening with such a beautiful view to enjoy. There is plenty to do in the surrounding area to keep yourself busy. We enjoyed day trips to Auxerre, Semur-en-Auxois and Dijon and also visited Chateau d'Ancy-le-Franc and the Fontenay Abbey. The house is very ideally situated if you want to get away from it all. It isn't overlooked at all. Judy was very easy to deal with, always replied very promptly and the instructions that she sent were detailed and complete. We had no trouble at all finding or accesing the property. Overall we had a great stay. Thanks much to our hosts!!!

Summary: I was there in late July 2019 with my dog, during an absolute heatwave. Very quiet, beautiful countryside. Great early morning walks with the dog, who spent the rest if the day in the cool kitchen. Had my bike with me and never touched the car. The two equally nearby towns with markets are in perfect cycling distance, though there is a medium climb coming back. So it biking's your thing, also for bigger tours... Everything, from access to the property to the amenities were as described and worked perfectly.

Summary: Great house in an very small and quiet idyllic French village. We spend a few days here in April and it was amazing! The house was beautifully renovated and and furnished with lots of taste and tons of great little details. Beautiful views in each direction of the house. Two wood stoves for cozy evenings. Very well equipped kitchen. Everything you might need is there. This is a great place to get away to finish a writing project, hang out with good friends or to bring a family. There's plenty of room! We would very much recommend and love to return in the summer or autumn time to also enjoy the terrace and the garden. We would come back, whenever we have the chance.

Summary: Truly, your cottage, La Cheneviere, was our "Home Away from Home". We could not have felt more at home. Thank you for all the information on the house and the area. That is so thoughtful and so appreciated. La Cheneviere was cozy and so comfortable. Our favorite moments were experiencing the evenings on the back patio in the Burgundy countryside while relaxing with some wine and cheese . The sights...white Charolais cattle grazing on green pastures, barge boats moving in the Burgundy canal, trains hurling down the valley tracks, cyclists peddling along the Canal, farmers hustling to get the hay cut and baled, birds and bees flying and buzzing across the yard from fruit tree to tree and flower to flower...all the while we sip wine and snack on cheese; can life get any better? The sounds...the birds tweeting and the bees buzzing, the trains whirling down the valley, cattle mooing, tractors motoring down the steep hill and the silence between those moments. The smells...fresh cut hay and clean country air and the best was aroma of fresh baguettes from the Boulanger who delivered right to the door. We had a good Dinner at Le Trianon D"Alesia and a better dinner at Le Bistrot de Louise in Venarey. La Grange in Flavigny Sur Ozerain provided us a wonderful farm fresh lunch. We set our car GPS to keep us on the small country roads and we felt as if we were the only ones driving in Burgundy! We loved La Cheneviere, the Burgundy countryside, the food and the people. The best thing I can say is...we will be back for a longer stay!

Summary: We have had a great stay here and, in fact, my wife and I feel that this is the best place we have stayed since leaving our island home in May. This really reminds us of our little bit of heaven back in the US ( except your place is just a bit older!) You have done a great job with you remodel! A truly wonderful spot. So much to see around the area and to do it via bike path along the canal was fantastic. Just sitting on the deck taking in the beautiful view of the rolling landscape was magical. We only wished the Wifi was working, but found connection in hotel in small town not far away to check email and skype with family. Thanks, Judy for a wonderful stay. I would highly recommend this place and hope to come back some day.

Summary: The cottage is just like a home from home very comfortable and a great patio for sitting and watching the world go by. The owners have thought of everything from the information booklet they send you through to games to play in the evenings. The village is very quite and the views over the valley are amazing. There are a number of attractions near by and some lovely villages. Definately a good place to stay and easy to get to from the UK.
