Positive: A Magical Stay at Château de Busset From start to finish, our experience at Château de Busset near Vichy was nothing short of exceptional. Initial contact with Yianna was a pleasure — she was timely, professional, and gave us clear instructions for finding the château, along with thoughtful dinner options to consider. As you drive over the drawbridge, the magic begins. The stunning inner courtyard immediately takes your breath away, and on entering the property we were warmly welcomed by Christophe, whose charm and ease set the perfect tone for our stay. The reception area, which doubles as a magical dining room, adjoins the kitchen, allowing you to watch Christophe conjure up his delicious creations — a delightful touch. We were fortunate enough to have the entire château to ourselves that evening, and it truly is a marvel. From the sweeping views of the pool and manicured gardens to the rolling countryside stretching as far as the eye can see, every sight was picture-perfect. Our room, the Chambre Jaune, was a true “jaw-drop” moment — authentic, elegant, and breathtaking. The huge space, beautiful oak flooring, floor-to-ceiling drapes, and views to die for transported us straight back to the glorious days of the château. Dinner was a highlight in itself. Walking through history-soaked corridors and descending the spiral stone staircase within the turrets felt like stepping into another time. The dining room below is atmospheric, welcoming, and full of character, with beautifully presented tables and Christophe’s warm hospitality setting the stage. The meal was spectacular — a starter of warm goat cheese salad, a perfectly cooked steak with creamy potatoes and a rich jus, followed by a variety of local cheeses with balsamic reduction, and finally a berry crumble with ice cream. Each dish was beautifully prepared, and paired with a full-bodied 2022 Margaux, it was simply unforgettable.
