Summary: The house is located just outside of Capestrano, offering a stunning view of the beautiful medioeval town and the mountains. Every destination within the Tirino's valley and bordering mountains are easy to reach within 30/45 min drive. Highly recommended to enjoy an authentic corner of Italy, still preserved from the touristic chaos.

Summary: Spacious, beautiful, comfortable home in exquisite Medieval setting. It was a privilege to stay here. A note about access - we drove a fiat panda all the way up to the front door with no problems. Best not to try that with a larger car but that is true in Italy generally. Thank you Maggie - it’s our hope to return next year.

Summary: Lovely villa in a stunning location. Homely and comfortable, we have stayed here twice now and love its location. A nice easy drive from Pescara, which is one of the better Italian airports with easy and helpful car rental companies. The House sits on the hill opposite Capestrano which is a lovely village to explore with helpful and friendly locals. A short drive or bike ride to the local outdoor pool with restaurant makes this an ideal spot for relaxation or a base for exploring L'Aquila and Abruzzo region. The local wine and food is excellent and there's enough information on where to go and what to see within the Villa. Maggie the owner is most helpful and has never failed to respond to any of our enquiries in a timely and efficient manner. If there's one thing to note for the potential visitor its that, to get great views like this you have to be up a hill and whilst this is not a problem for the young and fair of heart an elderly person may struggle. We have found it easier to leave the car at the bottom of the hill as the turns and steepness make it an exhilarating hill climb in a hire car! Having said that we are in our fifties and had no problem walking up and down with cases and shopping. The walk into Capestrano is not as challenging for your daily tipple or ice cream. There's a decent supermarket in nearby Bussi or an excellent larger one in Pescara, just next to the airport.

Summary: Very well-equipped, clean and comfortable house with stunning views on the outskirts of the village of Capestrano in Abruzzo. We stayed at the end of March and had lovely sunny weather - 25 degrees with a slight hillside breeze - for the whole week. As the house is perched on a hillside, the drive up is a little hairy but it is manageable and is quite normal for a house in the Italian countryside. Capestrano is a sleepy village which lies between three of the most spectacular ranges of the Appenines and is within easy reach (40 mins) of the Adriatic coast for a day out. Our kids enjoyed walking up to the village gelataria for ice-cream. The owner was very helpful with any queries and provided a very comprehensive guide to all the features of the house and to the must-see attractions of the local Abruzzo area. The only drawback is that the walks up to the house and to the village are steep so would not be suitable for very elderly or the infirm. We will remember sitting on the terrace listening to the bells, sipping local wine (cheap and delicious) and watching moonrises over the mountains for a very long time. I hope we get back there some day.

Summary: Great location, although approaching the house by car is a bit demanding (last 100 m - narrow, steep road among houses and walls with hairpin bends). The house is very big, very well equipped and very clean. Views from the terrace - stunning, all day long. Perfect contact with the owner. The only little nuisance of our stay were little flies causing itchy skin irritations. The surroundings are really beautiful and not crowded by tourists, hiking in Gran Sasso and Maiella was wonderful.Definitely recommended!

Summary: We had a great week in the fantastic nature of the Abruzzes in one of the sweetest villages-Capestrano. The stone villa has a very good standard with all necessary comfort. It's a very charming, cosy and authentic house. Bathrooms and kitchen as well as all the bedrooms are in very good condition. We especially enjoyed the calmity, the smell of lilac and our chilling cave bedroom. Everybody who is into cosy, rustic houses in italian nature will love the Casa dei Papaveri. It's a great area for hiking and simply for enjoying the nature. A charming place about 10 min from Capestrano is Bussi sul Tirino with delicious pizzas, hearty people and lively green quaint alleys. This region is so chilling - an unexpected holiday highlight.
