This charming home is separate from the other Deer Harbor Cottages, perfect for those who want a little more privacy. Enjoy a lovely view of Deer Harbor, a handmade log bed, and log furnishings. The kitchenette has a mini-fridge, stovetop, toaster oven, microwave, and Keurig coffee maker. Outside, there are two decks facing Deer Harbor, with a four-person hot tub on the upper deck overlooking the Olympic Peninsula. The wildlife is abundant here, with deer, eagles, and hawks calling this property home.
This cottage enjoys a great location, with beautiful views of Deer Harbor, the Olympic Mountains, and the Lagoon. The historic Deer Harbor Inn Restaurant is a short stroll across the property. The stunning landscapes of Moran State Park are 14 miles east, with the always-quiet Obstruction Pass State Park six miles beyond. Deer Harbor Reserve and Marina are only half a mile south as well.

Summary: We stayed in the 'Cottage on the Bluff' for two nights and it was perfect for a weekend trip to Orcas Island. The place looks exactly like the pictures. It was clean and prepared for us upon arrival. The only lacking amenities were a washer and dryer, which is just something to take into account for a longer stay. I believe it is managed by a rental company and/or group rather than an individual, which I didn't realize until later (there are different people to contact on different days for support, but one number to contact prior to arriving). There are multiple units to rent on the Vacasa property, which is right next to Matthews Smokehouse. I believe there are two other units to rent which are joined at the hip about ten feet away. Although the property itself is right next to the Smokehouse, for the 'Cottage on the Bluff' specifically, there is a big tree between that helps with privacy at the entry and hot tub. The hot tub has a great view. There is a small, short trail leading from the road to the smokehouse ~20 feet from the lower part of the unit, which had some foot traffic. For general location on the island, the unit and Vacasa property in general is minutes away from the Deer Harbor charters for whale watching, which seemed to be one of the best charters on the island (they were much more environmentally conscientious than the other tours i.e. stayed a certain distance away from the humpback whales by law, and sent professional photos to your email so you didn't have to have your phone out and could experience it in the moment). The property is about 15-20mins away from the middle of the island, which held a town called Eastsound that we referred to as 'downtown,' as it had a lot of the shops and restaurants on the Island.

Summary: The property is adequate, quiet (during our midweek stay anyway) and comfortable. Other than heating food in the microwave, there is little opportunity to ‘cook’ in the designated area (too small to qualify as a kitchenette). Potential guests should also understand the property is a bit of a trek to Eastsound for restaurants, etc., and on the far other side of Orcas Island from Moran State Park. That said, we had a perfectly enjoyable time. The view through Deer Harbor to the Olympics is stunning. Try New Leaf Cafe in Eastsound!

Summary: We had a wonderful time at the Cottage on the Bluff! It was very clean and so cozy. The bed was very comfortable and the cabin had all the amenities we needed. We loved spending time enjoying the view of the harbour. I hope we can make it back again some day!

Summary: My husband and I ( and doggy) loved our stay here. The cottage is well stocked with everything you need and there’s a fabulous bbq restaurant next door. Our favorite part was relaxing in the hot tub while enjoying the beautiful view!

Summary: The cabin is really quaint. It’s small but has everything you need and laid out very well. The bed was really comfortable but the hot tub is the best part. We used it nearly every day and loved the view. It’s also a short, easy walk down to deer harbor. The BBQ restaurant on the property is delicious and was a huge plus!

Summary: Excellent location by Deer Harbor Inn. Steps away from a nice BBQ restaurant. Family friendly. Games on the lawn. The pictures of the property are accurate. It is a very charming cabin perfect for a small group. Within easy walking distance to the harbor. True, you are not in Eastsound but it’s a small island so it doesn’t take long to get there. If you are looking for a little peace and quiet on your island getaway this is it. And the view from the deck can’t be beat.

Summary: From the moment we walked in, this little cottage felt so homely! There were tons of people outside playing the games & eating at the BBQ place right there in the front. We had a blast after coming back from all day at the beach. It was perfect!

Summary: Cute and simple little cabin. Had everything we needed for a vacation. The Tv has Roku so it made it simple to watch movies. The hot tub worked great and you can sit and watch the sunset or stare at the stars from inside it. The best part about this cabin is Matthew's smokehouse restaurant that is a 1 min walk from the front door.
