2 Bedroom House in Rainbow Bay

"Gurgle and Whump" - named for the two blowholes or "boiling holes" in the rock beside the sea - is a charming, airy two-bedroom house right on the shore of the Caribbean side of Eleuthera. Light, bright furniture and several large glass sliding doors give you the feeling of being out in the sea and sky even indoors. The sliding doors of one bedroom look straight out to the sea, the sliding doors of the other look out to the sea through the garden's palm trees. Both bedrooms have AC. The great room does not.
A large shade sail protects the patio, and a second patio with umbrella is located beside the steps cut through the rock for access to the sea with its excellent snorkeling - expect to see groupers, yellowtails, blue tangs, and schools of juvenile fish.
The house is on a quiet side street, but walking distance to the Big Rock grocery store, restaurant and bar. Just north of James Cistern, and within easy reach of Governor's Harbour, its airport and dozens of empty beaches.
The kitchen features a stove-top gas cooker, microwave, refrigerator, and dishwasher. (The kitchen has a range and microwave but not an oven.)
The floor of our house is tiled with the original Nassau tiles dating from mid-century. We prize these beautiful historic tiles, but please note that some of them are cracked or discolored.
Amenities include AC in the bedrooms only, washer/dryer, WiFi, Roku TV, DVDs, board games, books, beach chairs, outdoor shower and a gas grill.

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We had a lovely stay! The view was beautiful. So close to Rainbow beach which we loved. The host was very responsive and helpful! We had a few days calm enough to swim and snorkel out front where we saw a couple small rays, a barracuda, and other fish. The place provided beach chairs, towels, a cooler, and floats which we used daily. Things I wish were provided would be a beach umbrella, better and more utensils, pots and pans for cooking. Luckily there was a nice cast iron to pan sear fresh fish in! I would definitely stay again but not in the summer as there is only air conditioning in the bedrooms so we didn’t get to enjoy the full house like I would have liked. Eleuthera is an amazing place full of warm and welcoming people. I can’t wait to return.

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: From the booking to the Entrance to the home it was so easy!Communications with the owner was instantaneous. The accommodations were perfect for our needs. The kitchen was well appointed and the washer and dryer were such a bonus for us so we did not have to pack as much for 2 weeks. This was a lifesaver.The view from the back porch was stunning as well as the access to the Caribbean so easy with the steps. Everything you needed for the beach was available. Chairs, towels, floats, snorkel equipment was all in working order and we used. Fresh water 5 gallons was provided to start our vacation. Convenience to grocery and restaurants was a plus as well. The air conditioning in the bedrooms was welcomed. We would have liked the entire house to be Air conditioned but made due with what we had. It was clean and neat and owners provided a clean set of linens after we were there for 1 week.Highly recommend this property. You will not regret it. The neighborhood is very quiet.The location in Central Eleuthera is perfect for day trips to the North and south. The wifi worked so we were able to use our phones. But we did not watch any TV. We were not able to get it to work. I am sure it was user error!This was truly a find for us!

The house was clean and had everything we needed for a great vacation in the Bahamas. We did sadly have poor water pressure for the first three days that resulted in not being able to run the dishwasher, do laundry or take showers effectively. They did come and repair the pump and we gained enough to then perform those tasks. On the last day the power went out right when we were trying to finish up our laundry and the dishwasher was halfway through. We found out later that it was a scheduled outage for the central part of the island. It would have been really helpful to know that was coming so we could have prepared. Leaving for a plane ride home with wet laundry was not fun!

But it was clean and good kitchen cookware and utensils. They do need to replace gas grill. The home is right on the ocean which is very nice. Centrally located on island and lots of privacy.

It changes from day to day. Getting in and out of the water via the steps on a calm day, high tide is very easy. We are 60 and had no problem-highly recommend getting in! We found there was most everything we could want. Plenty of towels, dishes, silverware, etc. Maybe more lighting for power outages and a scissors.

Summary: It was great to be right on the water for every sunset. We snorkled in the backyard, it was so nice to be home after getting out of the water and be able to take a hot shower! We had a great time and were sad to leave! We would stay here again!
