Summary: John and Nicole were so hospitable and really went out of their way to make me feel comfortable and welcome. The cottage was wonderful. So peaceful and quiet, except for the roosters getting me up in the morning! :) Was a truly wonderful stay, and I’ll stay here again in the future.

Summary: The Brooding Rooster cottage on a central Vancouver island hobby farm was exactly what we needed. Lots of different animals, wild and domesticated, were part of the experience, as was a lovely well equipped older style country cottage with all the amenities of home plus some great artwork on the walls and some really interesting and useful books found in the bookshelf in the cottage. We hope to go gather again soon.

Summary: The owners were very, very generous! We had fresh eggs every morning and were welcomed to pick fresh vegetables from their garden. My little girls got a tour of their farm, fed the chickens, and petted their horses. A great place for a family with small kids. The owners were also very quick at replying to my messages and answered all of my questions prior to arriving at their property. Definately a place worth returning for our next vacation!

Summary: This is a great place to get away from city life. It is along a fantastic artisan route for unique shopping. It was a short drive to Nanaimo and Ladysmith and other small communities to investigate and explore. The cabin was amazing with all the amenities with front and back porches to view the farm animals. The hosts were responsive and willing to provide suggestions on places to explore. I would recommend it.

Summary: This was a lovely spot overall, quiet, comfortable, even including a well stocked kitchen with a set of basic kitchen tools, pots and pans, etc. so I could actually produce some desserts for family gatherings. The washer and dryer was a real bonus as well. The provision of farm fresh eggs and freedom to 'graze' greens from the garden was another wonderful bonus; a list of things to do and see was just a query away, etc. Loved the personal touch all around and would go back in a heartbeat. The only downside? We would have appreciated fewer spiderwebs and dust bunnies in the cabin. Seemed everything looked great from the front but when you picked some things up to look more closely or to use -e.g. the trivet on the back of the stove - the back looked like it had not been moved [ergo cleaned] for months.

Summary: My wife, Darlene and I drove to Vancouver Island from Manitoba for the first time to see what life is like on the Island and were very fortunate to stay in the very large and comfortable private cabin in a rural farmland setting on Nicole and John's farm close to Nanaimo for 3 nights. Darlene was extra excited to see that they had horses, chickens and roosters to visit(they'll help you wake up early to go sightseeing or whatever) since she works with horses and lived on the farm when she was young. We visited in mid-June and were warmly welcomed to help ourselves to visit the animals, and take what what we wanted to from their garden, which was already filled with delicious vegetables. The cherry trees were loaded with cherries and we were welcomed to take as much as we wanted. We were offered as many fresh eggs right from their farm as we wanted. We only were on the farm in the early morning and the evening as we were visiting others on the island and sightseeing, but enjoyed every minute as all the amenities that were included were supplied to us. Thank you for a memorable stay, and I am sure we will be back again to stay next year!
