What Our Guests say 500 + Reviews

Positive: It’s not too far off the V81 and convenient for getting to Bayonne. From the photographs it looked ideal. The linen and beds were comfortable and the room just big enough. The pool was nice and the view good. The village is interesting and has history and the restaurant next door was the highlight of our stay. The host did book us diet after we asked where to eat. We didn’t take breakfast, we usually leave before it is served.
Negative: Firstly, we received rules to check in - quite unwelcoming rules. Arrive an hour late and the gate will be locked. We travel for 5 months a year, approximately 50 accommodation bookings. This one did not make the grade. Firstly, it’s been over 35 degrees for a month on our trip and everywhere has understood that it is the hottest at 5pm and most contact you beforehand to offer assistance. Most offer you a glass of cold water on arrival and allow you to go and cool off. The accommodation knew we would arrive by bicycles as that was explained in our booking. We sent messages and tried calling two days before but no response so we contacted Booking.com. We finally were contacted to say we could arrive earlier. But the room, on the third floor was dark and very hot. The shutters were closed to keep the heat out. We were told to keep them closed until the morning. The room itself was Ok but when guests arrive they have luggage. We have only small pannier bags but every surface is covered with vases or something and there is nowhere to put bags. No hand towel in the bathroom, so you have to use your wet towel from the other side of the room whenever you wash your hands. Water in a bottle was left but it was warm water, not just from a fridge. We felt claustrophobic, hot and uncomfortable and we didn’t sleep well at all. I would say the worst night of our trip. Finally, when looking at cancelling two days before arrival due to no response to our messages and this being a non refundable booking, we saw that a suite was available on Booking.com for less than we paid for our room. We assumed the suite was on a lower floor which may have been cooler.
Summary: Not a good choice in hot weather

Positive: An ancient chateau with character. Remy & Eric were delightful, gave us many helpful tips about the area. Enormous bedroom, small bathroom, loved the stuffed peacock, grand piano & huge harp on the landing. Very quirky
Negative: Difficult to find how to get into the chateau, had to phone. Disappointed no breakfast provided but there is a cafe next door. Don’t expect mod cons but plenty of character
Summary: Quirky, interesting place with charming hosts

Positive: We could not have enjoyed our stay more. The rooms were comfortable and well equipped, the grounds are stunning and the hosts were so accommodating and warm. We loved wandering about the courtyard with the ducks and the resident cat. Watching the sunset over the river and eating dinner at night in the garden was enchanting, and we happened to be visiting on a night when a local food truck was parked right outside the chateau in the main village square so we could enjoy fresh Breton crepes and panna cotta without leaving the property. We can’t thank the hosts enough for how great they were.
Negative: Really there is nothing to dislike or improve.
Summary: Will absolutely make a point to return, it’s a very special place.
