In the 18th century it was considered improper for ladies to be seen bathing in public. Sea bathing, however, had become so popular that by 1769 at least one discreet bathing place had been constructed near The Crane. It was referred to as the "Horse" and was approached by steps cut into the sea cliff. The stairs to the "horse" can still be seen descending from the far side of the south of The Crane, much as they were in 1769.

Summary: Our family absolutely loved Barbados! This was our first time staying at the Crane; the views and the beach are breathtaking. The ocean is the most beautiful blue water and the kids enjoyed playing in the big waves for hours. Our room was spacious and clean and the resort itself was equipped with all the amenities. We really enjoyed lunches at L'Azure on the cliff overlooking the ocean. Pat was extremely kind and helpful in ensuring we had everything we needed. Summary: Our stay at the Crane Resort exceeded our expectations. Let me begin with the property owner, Patrick. He was responsive and helpful throughout the entire process. The rental unit is very large which made it enjoyable to spend the week with teenagers. It was always spotless with great amenities. The view and ocean breeze were the best parts! The resort is also wonderful. Great pools and beach with fun and challenging waves. We ate at a few of the resort restaurants and also cooked in the unit. We rented a car and explored other areas and restaurants as well. Five stars across the board. The Bajan people couldn't be more welcoming. We will be back.

Summary: We had the most amazing stay at The Crane. The unit was perfect for our family of five, including three teenagers. There was more than ample space to relax and get some quiet time, enjoy the view and even host friends for a great meal on the balcony overlooking the Atlantic. We were well taken care of by the staff, and Pat and his family were terrific. They are incredibly trustworthy and made certain that all our needs were addressed well in advance of our arrival date. Pat directly contacted the building's management, who treated us as though we were owners during our stay. We can't wait to go back.

Summary: This unit completely exceeded our expectations even though we had already stayed at the Crane 3 years ago. The views were fantastic, having our morning coffee overlooking the ocean everyday was amazing. The location of the condo with in the hotel itself made a huge difference compared to the unit we had rented before. Being so close to the pools and restaurant made a big difference for the kids and for us. Much more relaxing without so much walking (in case we forgot something in our room). Pat was so kind from my first email to him about availability right through to the day we arrived. He sent us a kind note asking if everything was ok after we had checked in and emailed me restaurant recommendations the next morning because I had asked him for a suggestion. We have rented condos before but we never heard from the owner once payment had been received. I would recommend his condo to anyone looking to stay at an upscale resort in Barbados. The resort has the best beach on the island and is a 15 min taxi ride to great restaurants and shopping.
