1 Bedroom House in Saint-Maden

We have renovated a cob and stone barn into comfortable accommodation for two, using original techniques and materials sympathetic to the original building, such as earth plaster, locally handmade kitchen tiles and solid wood floors. This building provides private accommodation, independent from our own home and the other gรฎte.
A large entrance hall leads up the stairs to the accommodation, all on the first floor. An arch at the far end opens into the bedroom. For a good night's sleep, the orthopaedic, pocket-sprung, zip link bed can be configured as a king-size or two singles, as you wish. There is a table and two chairs under one window, a kitchen area next to that and a comfortable sofa and armchair with footstool in front of a wood stove, logs supplied for free. At the other end of the building is a shower room, with toilet.
A few short strides from the front door takes you to your own private garden including a shelter with table and chairs. You can also wander around our 3-acre garden with its wildlife pond, runner ducks in the veg patch, small flock of Breton sheep and bee hives. A little further afield, you can explore our 11 acre woodland.
Please note that the cottage is not suitable for children or pets, and smoking is not permitted inside the gite.
There is a shop and bar in the next village to us, just five minutes drive away. The shop, run by Mme Catherine Omari, sells a decent range of produce, including wine and beer, fresh fruit and vegetables and some organic ('bio' in French) products. It is a "dรฉpรดt de pain" which means that a bakery delivers fresh bread each day. You can buy croissants but is is best to order; we are happy to ring and arrange this for you.

Summary: We had a great stay here at the beginning of July. It was perfect for giving us the space to read / relax when it was raining and is in a perfect location for making day trips to places like St Malo, the Mont St-Michel, the coast etc. Stuart and Gabrielle were so, so welcoming I would go back just to talk to them! The barn itself is comfortable, clean and has clearly been equipped so that you don't feel that you're away from home. We appreciated having our own private garden, but also being able to explore Stuart and Gabrielle's garden, pond and forest. What they have created is just amazing and we loved it so much that for once we are actually considering going back to the same place on a semi-regular basis for future holidays.

Summary: We stayed for 5 nights and it was magical! The Gite was immaculate with no expense spared for the interior. There was a log burner which heated the place beautifully. The added bonus was the orthopaedic bed which was so comfortable. The solitude of the place was amazing and Gabrielle and Stuart were extremely helpful. The gite is in the middle of nowhere, however Gabrielleโ€™s instructions took us directly to it. There are numerous places around to visit. We highly recommend a stay here. Best wishes Jo & Nick

Summary: Good directions. Rural and quiet in a little hamlet. Plenty of space. Clean. Comfortable. Attractive interior - wooden floors and surfaces, exposed beams. Well-equipped.Many places within an hours drive: St Malo, Cancale, Dinan, Rennes; and Mont St Michel a little further. Hosts friendly and helpful.

Summary: The property is tucked away just outside the village in its own little hamlet.We had no problem finding it thanks to very clear directions We had everything we needed including fresh produce. Yummy sausages. Our hosts were very relaxed and helpful. We became quite interested in permaculture whilst there. Hmmmm. Early Mornings and late afternoons especially lovely with a glass of wine after sightseeing. Somewhere to come back to. Celia and Rob

Summary: Gabrielle and Stuart could not have been more helpful. Tha barn apartment was great for 2 people. They have ducks and chicken so lovely fresh eggs. Nice spots to sit in, even their own woods. Easy base to go to St Malo etc. A very special place to stay.

Summary: Stuart and Gabrielle were very good hosts and made us feel welcome from the start.The setting of the gite was unusual as it is in the middle of old houses and barns but still has a particular charm of its own.The gite itself was modern and comfortable but lacks a view but the grounds are pretty and very interesting.Our stay was most relaxing and far too short.I would recommend it especially if you are interested in ecological matters as the hosts are full of tips and information and run some practical hands on courses.The weather does its own thing no matter where you are.
