Welcome to our Modern Cottage Retreat on Big Stone Lake! We hope this is a home where you can find rest and relaxation away from the busyness of life. Whether you come for fishing and boating, ice fishing, a girl's or guy's weekend away, or time with family and friends, we hope you leave feeling refreshed. This space was designed with intentionality to provide everything you need for a relaxing, fun stay at the lake. It was completely remodeled and is like a brand new home so you can relax whether you're inside or outside! There is a master bedroom on the main floor with queen bed, and huge loft upstairs with 2 extra-long twin bunkbeds and 2 queen-size beds. One of the couches in the living room area also includes a pull-out bed! Enjoy making meals in the brand new kitchen and spending time together in this large, remodeled, open-concept space. Curl up with a good book in the sitting area while kids enjoy the spacious space to play upstairs!
Accommodations for children: we have 5 children of our own, and so we wanted to make sure that this space made taking kids along as easy as possible. We have provided a pack n play for little ones with extra sheets, a sound machine upstairs, and a portable highchair. We have a few games, puzzles, books, and toys so that you don't have to take any extras along. The beach is even close enough to the house, that you could lay your little ones down, and have a monitor down by the beach while you keep in constant contact with them inside. The upstairs loft is a dream for kids and adults alike, but has enough space to play if you need a bit of separation, with a separate bathroom up there. We also made sure to put a bathtub on the main floor b/c we know how important it is to have a bathtub when trying to bathe little ones.
Amenities away from the cottage: If rest and relaxation is what you came for, you won't need to go any further, especially if you enjoy cooking a meal in the fully functional and furnished kitchen. If you need to get out for a bit of exercise, this cottage is on the quietest road that stretches both directions right next to the lake. It is actually inside a state park, and if you want to find more trails to hike, or if you have friends who want to camp, you can go just down the road to Big Stone State Park. There are also a couple trails just feet from our property into the state park. There is a boat ramp about 1/4 mile down the road if you'd like to take a boat along for your stay here. In addition, there are several restaurants nearby if you'd prefer to go out to eat a night or two. Please contact us and we'd be happy to share!
There is space for everyone inside, but outside the accommodations are also spectacular! Enjoy the highly sought-after beach area on the property with the excellent shade trees. Feel free to take a ride on the kayaks or paddle board! Finish off the day with a bonfire outside on the new patio by the lake, and curl up in a cozy bed for the evening. This place is truly special with it's modern cottage feel, and we created it to be a pristine space that feels like a true retreat from the chaos of life, so you could enjoy time with the people you love.

Summary: We had a fantastic stay! The cabin is beautifully decorated and had everything we needed. (My sister loves to cook/bake and brought some of her own kitchen prep tools along but the main items needed were provided.) We loved the kayaks and paddle board and had some great campfires in the evenings. We rented a pontoon for a day and enjoyed exploring the lake (originally booked with Lakeshore RV park but rained on our rental day so rented from Schmitt’s landing the next day…both places very easy to work with). Other things that we loved: the built in bunks for the kids, the huge dining room table for the whole family, and the board games on a rainy day.

Summary: Such a fabulous "cabin" with everything you could need! This was our 2nd stay here and just as wonderful as the first. Beds are super comfortable, kitchen very well appointed, quiet neighborhood, very close to walking trails. Highly recommend!!

Summary: The cottage worked well for our group. A little warm upstairs on the warmest days of our stay but manageable. The open layout of the kitchen and the seating areas for a group is very nice. The location on the lake is close to some great fishing this time of year.

Summary: Beautiful home and immaculately clean. Lake is peaceful and we enjoyed using the kayaks and firepit. We hope to come back next year! Make sure you bring life vests, firewood and any specialty groceries you’ll need. The town is adorable, but it is a long way to a big city. The hike is worth it. You’ll find QUIET and lots of wildlife. Thanks to the owners for a great experience.

Summary: 9 of us (age 35-65) stayed in this beautiful cottage for a fun fall weekend of games, long walks at the state park across the street, fun meals made in the beautiful kitchen, and lots of wonderful conversation in the cozy living room and beach! This was such a great stay!

Summary: Our get away was good overall. There was tons of tiny flies that would stick to us when we visited the back yard and patio. Not sure what type of insects and where they came from. Check in and out, owners wanted text notification. I also felt like we were being monitored as caretaker was there at time of Check in. I have rented couple times and have not run into this. The short term lease mentions no party events allowed on property but we were there fishing and just a weekend get away.

Summary: The owners had wonderful communication throughout our stay. I do need to piggy-back onto a previous comment about the owners controlling the thermostat-this is FALSE! They actually were very accommodating & assisted me to get the thermostat set to manual setting for me to have total control of the house temp. There were ZERO cobwebs & the house was immaculate upon arriving. The contract the owners send prior to your arrival is very similar to past contracts I had signed from other VRBO rentals -if I owned this beautiful lake house & I rented it out I would definitely have a contract in place. I did NOT feel as we were walking around on eggshells during our stay-it was very relaxing & the house rules were basic common sense rules. There is a local grocery store just a 10 minute drive from the lake house that had everything we needed for our stay. The owners send a very detailed informative email prior to your stay within details on what is provided & what is not. This was very helpful to pack for the trip. If we come back to fish on Big Stone Lake -we would definitely rent this lake house again. This house & owners deserve 5 stars! Thank you for an amazing stay.
