Summary: This was amongst the best cottages we have ever rented. It was extremely comfortable and well equipped for a family of 4, including 2 teens. After spending a few days in Porto, we took a leisurely drive to the cottage, with a pit stop in Guimaraes. We did struggle to find the cottage as the sign is hard to see from the direction we were driving but a neighbour kindly directed us. Be aware that the cottage is in a mountainous setting and the driveway is steep. We reversed into the carport and found this the best strategy for coming and going with a manual car. Susana was waiting for us upon arrival and was great with getting us oriented. There were so many lovely touches in this cottage - locally made delicious jam and beer waiting for us, decorative items in the window sills, beautiful wooden features throughout (ceiling, floors, counters, door frames). Highlights include: walking out from our bedrooms onto a deck overseeing the pool and taking in the mountain view and reading in the super comfortable lounge chairs; swimming in the clean, refreshing salt water pool first thing in the morning or after a day trip; lounging poolside on the comfortable padded lounge chairs under shade umbrellas; playing foosball and pool in the games room in the evenings. The kitchen was well equipped and we prepared meals most nights as it was easy to get groceries in Celorico de Basto. The location of the cottage was excellent - we enjoyed the Ruta Romanica and the Douro Valley nearby.

Summary: Albino and Susana were wonderful hosts. They accommodated all our needs and made sure we felt comfortable in their beautiful home. We visited in July and, although it was hot outside, the stone home stayed comfortable and cool on the inside. We loved eating breakfast and dinner at the outdoor table, taking in the magnificent views.

Summary: We had a brilliant stay for one week at Casa de Pedra. The house is beautiful - even more so than the photos - and spotlessly clean. Comfortable bedrooms and very well equipped kitchen with absolutely everything you need. A great terrace with lovely views and good eating and outside BBQ area. The pool is excellent, a good size and well maintained with inflatables, extra towels and loungers provided, plus a separate toilet and washing area nearby outside. Our kids - aged 9 and 12 - spent hours in it! They also enjoyed the games provided, from pool and football tables to a Wii. Every detail to make it an easy and relaxing stay had been thought about by the lovely hosts, from a hugely detailed information pack to welcome beer and cake in the fridge. The only thing to highlight was the house is on a steep hill so would not be suitable if you are not a confident driver and the steps around the property grounds are also steep so not suitable for toddlers/people with mobility issues. There are lots of places to visit including pretty villages like Amarante and we drove an hour or so for day trips to Porto and Douro Valley too. We loved our stay here, thank you!
