3 Bedroom Villa in Marciano, Piani

The Villa stands in 7 acres of beautiful, rural Italian farmland with many types of young trees: cherry, olive, plum, peach, walnut, almond and weeping willow with a 9 hole golf course which surrounds the villa. Once you navigate the half kilometre driveway from the single track road to the driveway, you will see the cherry trees on your left. As you approach the villa the pool and patio are to the left with a beautiful view to the right which over looks the valley and the river. Past the villa to the left is the garage/storeroom behind which is the carpark, and to the right is the barn and old chicken coup. The pool is 8x4 meters, surrounded by a large patio area and lounging beside is thoroughly recommended with a cold Peroni beer or glass of local Montepulciano wine. This patio area really comes into it's own during the hot summer months. A patio pump house houses loungers and pool toys and adjacent is a solar pool shower. A large gazebo gives shade for those who want to cool off. The garage/storeroom is primarily for garden tools but also contains a washing machine, a table football and a selection of ball games. There's also a working pizza oven and outside wash basin.
A private 9 hole golf course which surrounds the villa is available to guests. Due to the climatic conditions the greens cannot be maintained therefore we would recommend playing to winter rules. With drives upto 150 metres.and rough terrain, this will certainly test your abilities but will create much fun. A half set of clubs and balls are available.
Villa Degna is also a great location for spring or winter breaks. The magnificent scenery of the snow capped Appenini Mountains and the cosy log burning fire make it ideal for a short break during the spring/winter months. For those who are keen skiers, there is an abundance of high quality ski resorts all within an hours drive of Villa Degna. This is one of Abruzzo's best kept secrets! Passo Lanciano, Roccaraso and Campo Imperatore to name but a few of the resorts enjoyed by many Italians. If skiing is not for you then walking/rambling is just as much fun.You can reach the Gran Sasso & Maiella National Parks in just 40 minutes. The National Parks cover one-third of the territory of Abruzzo, so there is an abundance of walks and trails of various lengths and levels of difficulty. You can enjoy majestic mountain scenery with a wide variety of flora and fauna, and, if you are lucky, you may spot a wild bear, wolf or chamois.
Possible walks and visits:
- Atri and the Calachi reserve;
- tour of Loreto Aprutino and Penne;
- Castelli and its surroundings - pottery and high mountains;
- Calderone glacier (the southernmost glacier in Europe);
- Along the sheep-track;
- Monastries and Hermitages;
- the capital of the region: L'Aquila;
- Scanno
- Teramo.
How to get here: The nearest airport is Pescara (40km, which is a 40 min drive to Villa Degna).

4 National Parks, high picks for trekking (Gran Sasso), skiing resorts (Maiella mountain and Campo Imperatore), sandy and stone beaches (Pineto, Torre di Cerrano and S.Vito Chietino), lots of medieval towns on top of hills, handicrafts, museums and a lot more. There are some local products such as 'arrosticini' (skewered barbecued mutton), truffles, cheese (pecorino), hand-made pasta, liquors (ratafia, genziana, centerba), saffron and of course the Montepulciano D'Abruzzo and the Trebbiano white wine make it special from the 'food and wine'.
In addition to all this, its central position makes it easy to reach Rome (about 2 1/2 hours by car) and you could extend your holiday to Croatia taking the ferry from Pescara!

Summary: A great, relaxing location. We loved seeing and hearing the different wildlife (fox cubs, wild boar, hares). The views are amazing and we were able to completely relax during our stay. We spent many days by the pool which our children (13, 10, 3) loved. The house is very well equipped and has everything you need, there’s also a great range of books to read whilst sitting by the pool! We were all very amused by the moving of some of our things left outside over night - we assumed, by foxes! Two pairs of goggles chewed, a shoe moved on to the grass bank and a blanket dragged on to the grass. The children found this fascinating!!! Make sure you take plenty of zanzare spray we had over 60 bites between 3 of us!!! We visited Penne, Città Sant’Angelo and Pescara during our stay, Città Sant’Angelo being our favourite! If you need to do a shop the Todis is Cesi has all your needs and isn’t too far away (10 mins in the car). The only day we had a big thunder storm we visited Pescara Nord shopping centre which was great for a wander and eating. There’s a big supermarket here too to stock up on essentials and of course vino!! Many thanks to Anna, Luigi and the pool cleaning man (visits twice a week to clean and check pool).

The pool was lovely and the house had everything you needed. Luigi was very informative and gave great instructions on where to go. Summary: Villa Degna was clean and extremely well equipped, with lots of small touches which made it feel like a home from home, the pool area was wonderful. The Villa is surrounded by fruit trees and in a very rural location it was a very relaxing space to soak up wonderful views, with a glass of wine and a good book. Apricots were readily available to pick from the trees during our stay and the owners own home produced red wine was a treat once chilled and less strong if you add gasossa! The garden area was abundant with birds, Apennine Hares and a fox in the early morning and evening, which were very entertaining to watch. There are shops locally, but the Todis supermarket in Cesi was a little limited. There is a very large Auchan superstore on Pescara opposite the airport which would be a good stop off before heading to the villa depending on your arrival time. The local minor roads are a little challenging due to the past winter and the inclement weather the area unfortunately experienced including heavy snow, flooding and mud slides, but they are under a steady programme of repair and reconstruction. Watch your sat nav if using as it may direct you to roads that no longer exist! Silvi Marina is a nice beach resort and a great place to stop for a Gelato and Coffee in the many bars and very reasonably priced in comparison to the UK cost for inferior products! The private beaches rent out sunbeds and umbrellas and the beach is very fine sand, great for children but extremely warm 38/40 degrees on the day we visited, Don't forget to take your suncream ! Silvi will become much busier now the Italian schools have broken up for the summer holidays. Pescara which is a much larger city also has excellent beach facilities but parking can be a challenge and is much busier. All in all if you are looking for a well equipped villa and peaceful location with a lovely view and decent sized pool, this is a great choice. The owners obviously love their property and the surrounding area. We found it hard to leave. Enjoy!

Summary: A well equipped villa in a fantastic location to enjoy the ever changing landscapes of Abruzzo. The pool was a delight to cool off from the hot July sun. Many villages/towns nearby where you can enjoy markets, browse the shops and of course wine and dine in the restaurants. Only negative point, there is no golf course at present but still huge grounds to explore at the villa. We had a fantastic week in this great location.

Summary: The view is lovely. It is very secluded , with loads of space around the villa. The swimming pool looks great although we didn't have good weather to try it out. The villa and grounds were exceptionally well maintained and spotlessly clean. The management team were very helpful. I would not hesitate to recommend this property to anyone.....and we are really fussy.
