Nestled in a beautiful quiet rural setting is this charming 1740 Colonial cottage that we call the 1740 House. The 1740 House is a colonial cottage that was originally built in Lunenberg Virginia in the 1740s and was moved in the 1980s to its present location in the beautiful county of Gloucester, Virginia. This cottage has a small beautiful modern kitchen with a lovely dining area that has Large floor-to-ceiling windows to enjoy the outside views while enjoying a meal or sipping on your favorite beverage. The dining area is located in what we call the hyphen. The hyphen leads from the kitchen to the living room and bedrooms. The bedroom with the twin beds is located on the 2nd floor and the double bed is located on the 1st floor shared with the living room. Enjoy the outdoors? Summary: My two teenagers and I stayed at the 1740 house for our summer vacation. The home was perfect for our needs. Williamsburg, Busch Gardens, and Water Country are about 25 minutes away. We also spent some time fishing at Gloucester Beach, which is only 5 minutes away. We loved relaxing by the fire pit, and being surrounded by beautiful trees while we rested up for our next outing. The kitchen was also perfect for cooking small meals such as eggs or mac-n-cheese. Thank you for a wonderful stay! We had a great time.

Summary: Our family had a lovely time staying in this historic house. Our teenagers liked having their own space upstairs and the overall feel of the cottage. The kitchen did lack some key items (can opener, salt and pepper, etc.) that made cooking slightly challenging. Overall, however, this was a great place to spend 4 nights.

Summary: We took our young granddaughter on a trip to see Colonial Williamsburg and the surrounding sites. The 1740 house was a great place to stay for this. It's close enough to everything you want to see yet out in rural area that really adds to the experience. The house is old, but very functional for a couple or a small family. Everything was just as advertised.

Summary: It was a very cute place, and they maintained a lot of the original house and had lots of antiques which really brought it all together. The owner was also exceptionally nice and responsive. The only issue was that, since the house was old, it was damp and mildewy. They desperately need a dehumidifier. Aside from that it was a lovely stay. (:

Summary: Perfect as a base for touring the Historic Triangle. Nice, quiet location. Loved the beautiful grounds and outdoor firepit. Very responsive property manager -- quickly resolved a problem we encountered. Lovely flowers and gift basket upon arrival. Overall, great stay at this unique property!

Summary: We had a great stay at 1740 house. The property management team was exceptional and very responsive to our messages. It was a beautiful property and we enjoyed staying at such a historical home. Our only complaint was the tap water was very smelly which limited our bathing options a bit. There was about 6 bottles of water left in fridge which was much appreciated but we ended up buying a couple gallons more so we could use for drinking, cofffee, cooking, and bathing/washing. Overall though a great stay and highly recommend the property.

Summary: Charming cottage in rural Gloucester County. Hosts were amazing and even left a gift basket in addition to multiple amenities. We really enjoyed our stay and highly recommend. Surrounding area has plenty to do and multiple points of interest.
