Positive: Bedrooms were very cosy.

Negative: Broken garden furniture did not make a good first impression ( should be taken to the tip) Baking tray and pans were poor quality and need replacing. Kitchen roll, shower gel maybe a jug of milk in the fridge . Easy parking and easy to find. Welcome pack contained very basic limited information and should be much more thorough, for example local restaurants, nearest shops for provisions bus timetables etc. . Shower didn’t have a shelf or basket to place shampoo gel in etc . These recommendations would really enhance the guest experience.

Positive: I treated my mum for a few days break for her birthday. She absolutely loved it.The cottage is stunning and her room had a beautiful view from her window. She brought lots of warm clothes which she did not need as the cottage was lovely and warm and comfortable and very clean. We made a breakfast and all utensils were there to do so. Thoroughly enjoyed and will book again.

Negative: There was nothing we would change.

Positive: The cottage is situated near two main roads, which made it easy to get buses which are punctual, the property does have parking for those whom prefer to use their own vehicles which is located behind the garden. The cottage is a typical Manx dwelling & has all the charm of it's historical position in the area, it is difficult to miss it as it is painted white & is noticeable even during low light. The kitchen has sufficient space to host a group of five or a family with children & has all the basic cooking facilities to ensure a meal is available mornings & evenings. The bedrooms are cosy cottage comfort & are extremely warm & accommodating with the period furniture which is evident throughout the property. The shared living room space can be very tight & for those whom enjoy modern living, very close & intrusive.

Negative: The sound of traffic can cause restless nights for thos whom are light sleepers, but a good pair of ear plugs would be useful. The bathroom which is shown in the booking profile no longer has a bath, but single shower, so prioritised visits with large groups could be potentially of concern, but there is a spare toilet on the bedroom level to avoid any morning dance raves. The fridge is adequate for small groups, but regular visits to a food shop may be required, if large amounts of groceries are required.

Positive: The cottage is picturesque in it's appearance & has standard modern appliances, for those used to stay in a property with all the modern technology this does not accommodate. Basic living the old fashioned way,is what it had to offer which would suit many whom prefer simple not sophisticated. It is located on a road junction & has access towards all the local beautiful locations, as well as bus stops directly outside of the property which takes you towards Castletown, Douglas, Ballebeg, Colby, Port St Mary & Port Erin. There are plenty of short walks close by including a fantastic location within 10 minutes where a Viking long boat & a Bronze age burial, an Iron age hill fort & a 10 century church are located, if you continue along the same route you'll be stood by the shore line & be able to look back unto the hillside & mountain peaks which are stunning.

Negative: Best to bring ear plugs if you are a light sleeper, as the traffic can disrupt due to the close proximity of the roads, as all the bedrooms face out towards the main road. The kitchen is adequate to accommodate 5 guests but the small living room may become cramped, but cosy on wet & colder evenings in. The bathroom pictured no longer has a bath but shower, it is the only full body washing facility so it'll have to be prioritised. There is a spare toilet upstairs & hand basin, so don't worry about getting caught short.

Summary: Cronk Darragh is a place in time.

Positive: Location was perfect for us, rural with sheep at the bottom of the garden, cows & chickens on the opposite corner, we only heard an occasional moo not intrusive at all, in fact we didn't know they were there until the third day when we heard a single moo. Next to a main road which caused us no problems at all, very quiet at night. Private off road parking. Castletown 2 mins by car one way, port Erin 7? Mins the other. Garage with a well stocked shop just down the road. Dave the owner is good chap, we broke a toilet seat and he came and changed it assuring us it was ok and had a new one on before we could blink. He also provisionally kept accommodation available in case our boat didn't sail due to the weather which eased our minds considerably. Very comfortable accommodation, fully stocked kitchen facilities, toilet upstairs and down (mum 85!) and helpful owner, we will be returning to this cottage.

Negative: Nothing. It was perfect for us.
