The White House at Brinsop is a grade II listed farmhouse dating from 15th century that retains many of its original features. The attached stone and timber framed former cider house has been sensitively converted into two charming self catering holiday cottages that combine traditional architecture with modern, comfortable accommodation. The properties are available individually or can be let together (see separate listing for The Cider Press).
.Dee's Cottage which sleeps a maximum of 2 persons is accessed directly from the front garden. This bright and inviting ground floor stone cottage is conveniently arranged on one level, in an open-plan format to provide an inclusive feel. This quaint property is well equipped with flat screen TV/DVD player, games, books, and a wide selection of maps and DVDs if desired. It benefits from central heating, a compact handmade kitchen and a spacious modern shower room with provided toiletries. Fluffy towels and Egyptian cotton bedding are provided as standard. There are charming views of the Iron Age hill fort and pond to the rear, whilst beyond the lawn to the front, the distant Welsh hills provide the perfect setting for the evening sun. NB This property has low ceilings and is ideally suited to persons 6ft 2ins (1.88 metres) or under. Dee's Cottage has ground floor wheelchair access.
Immediately outside the property there is an enclosed, lawned garden facing west, and then just behind the property is a patio that leads to the ancient fish pool. There is a separate outbuilding that is locked each night and walking or cycling equipment may be stored here.
Situated along a quite lane in the beautiful Brinsop valley, the property overlooks the Iron Age hill fort of Credenhill to the east, and the Black Mountains to the west - yet is an easy two minute walk from the hourly bus service from mid Wales into Hereford. White House is surrounded by large and accessible grounds that incorporate lawned areas, a pony paddock and a medieval fishpond that extends to nearly an acre. Seats and benches are carefully placed around to take advantage of the views and they make the perfect place to appreciate and enjoy, water, wildlife and the odd glass of wine!
The lanes and footpaths around are great for walking and cycling and Hereford, Hay-on-Wye, the Black Mountains, Leominster, the Black and White villages trail and Ludlow are all within easy reach.

Summary: Dee's cottage is absolutely delightful, there was nothing we would have changed. Tim and Abby are lovely and welcoming and it's in a super location. We spent New Year here and although the days were cold , after long walks , we were cosy inside and enjoyed the lovely views through the large windows. The finish on the cottage is high quality and it is well equipped ( though a non stick pan would have been good for the omelette!! ) The welcome provisions were much appreciated- 5stars for the lemon drizzle cake ! Would definitely recommend Dee's cottage. Well done Tim and Abby

Summary: Surely one of the most pleasantly decorated offerings in the self catered world. Everything you need is supplied and is of decent quality. Operated by hosts who are obviously well traveled and know what guests want and expect of a venue from their own experience. For international travelers without a local sim needing to get some remote work done (or even another VRBO booking) decent internet has unfortunately become a necessity. We enjoyed all aspects of our stay except the dodgy wifi and (for us ) a too soft bed. I would deduct a star for each but that would still leave 5 as this stay was worth 7 stars on every other count!

Summary: I stayed in Dee's Cottage at Brinsop for a week in March. Everything was perfect, from the warm fresh bread and lemon sponge cake and homemade granola left for me in the window sill; to the charming, exposed-beam-&-brick but expertly updated lodging itself; to the beyond-hospitable welcome I received from Tim and Abby (and friendly labs Walter & Bernie). The White House and grounds (fish pond! amazing country views in all directions) are, bar none, the nicest place I have ever stayed in my twenty years of visiting England on research trips and vacation. I can't wait to bring my wife and daughters back to show them. My trip was meant as a writing retreat, combined with with local rambling in the area around. The grocery and takeaways (asian, fish & chips) at Credenhill, 1 mile away, plus the Bell Inn Pub at Tillington, were sufficient for most of my needs; though on a few days I made the easy 5 mile trip into Hereford City Centre (for Cathedral Close visits, excellent Thai, medieval site-visits, and real ale at Lichfield Vaults). Afternoons were spent walking around Brinsop and nearby Credenhill and Breinton--all exceptionally beautiful and restorative to wander through. Parish churches at each place were a real highlight (I'm a medievalist, so the local history is compelling--and Tim is a bona fide source, especially on the architectural renovation side). If I hadn't been fighting a sinus/chest infection I brought with me, I'd have gone running in what were perfect surroundings. At dusk I'd sit at different spots in the meadow by the pond with a local cider to consider. The property itself was exceptionally well-kept, with all amenities in perfect order. I'd have happily cooked more if my spouse were along (fridge had milk, juice, butter, and cheese waiting for me; and the kitchen set-up overall was excellent: stove & oven & microwave/toaster/cutlery/dishes etc). When (not if) I come back, I'd stay again in Dee's Cottage if it were just the spouse and me, but go upstairs to the other unit (same excellent layout, but one more bedroom--I got a tour) if the kids come too. All in all, then: a really REALLY wonderful, restorative, beautiful and well-laid out lodging and thus visit. Tim and Abby have got a GREAT thing going here, which I can't recommend enough (or stop writing about, apparently!).
