This delightful cottage is situated in the centre of the village of Escamps (pronounced Eh-cong), Burgundy, just 2 hours drive on the motorway from Paris or a more leisurely two and a half hours taking the “route national” through the forests of Fountainebleau, past small villages and undulating fields of sunflower and canola. Desjardins Cottage is perfect for a weekend getaway or longer stays where you can relax and experience this quintessential French countryside and all it has to offer.
Escamps is a tiny village with a Romanesque church circa 800, just 14 kms from the impressive gothic cathedral town of Auxerre on the river Yonne and 25kms from the wineries of Chablis and Irancy. The house has two bedrooms, one with queen sized bed and the other 2 singles that can be made up as a second queen. There is also a sofa bed in the lounge room for a 3rd child or friends dropping by.
The cottage itself is 400-500 years old. We believe it may have belonged to a religious order since renovations revealed a tiny habited face on the outside wall. The home is well equipped, warm, comfortable and delightfully decorated in the classic French provincial style. The garden is fully fenced in and secure so parents can feel relaxed while children play!
Information is provided for short trips to neighbouring market towns, wineries, restaurants, important religious sites and historic attractions as well as day trips inviting you to explore villages, caves and castles further afield.

Summary: This is a great location if you want to get away from the bustle of the city. The cottage is beautifully furnished and very cosy. A couple of benefits that hadn't jumped out in the listing include the toilet being separate from the shower, and a washing machine and drier. Penelope was really helpful and answered our questions quickly. We've stayed in many vrbo properties over the years and this was one of the best - just a shame we didn't have nicer weather so we could really enjoy the courtyard garden!

Summary: Lovely little cottage, with a private garden area to sit with your morning coffee. there are no services in the town, so You need a car to get coffee, food, gas or groceries . Auxerre is the nearest large town which is a 30 minute drive. But if you are looking for a quiet little place to rest this is the place.

Summary: The house is very cosy, decorated in a wonderful mixture of antiquities and modern accessoires. We immediately felt very much at home and enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere, the well equipped kitchen and the outdoor meals - even for breakfast! Everything is thought of, from microwave to wifi and washing machine plus dryer. There is no shop in the village, but it only takes five minutes to Chevannes, where there are shops for everyday needs, and Auxerre is not far away, either. There are lots of things to do in the area, so a week is much too short!

Summary: Clean, well equipped and spacious. One of our requirements for a gite is that it is suitable for my wife's level of mobility/disability and in this regard the cottage was well described and exactly suitable for us. The shower for instance was one of the best for someone of disability to use that we have found in holiday lets. Our only caveat was with the location the village of Escamp it being completely devoid of facilities. But that was made clear in the description and there is a larger village 2km away which has most of the things one needs.

Summary: This is a lovely property, and fully lives up to, and even exceeds the impression presented in the photographs. Our stay was only 2 nights, as a way to give our kids a taste of a French country-side stay, with the hopes that they will warm to the idea of a longer stay in the future. I think this property would be just fine for our family of four for a longer stay.

Summary: The appartment is very comfortable and well located to explore the area. It is located just a few km from Auxerre. Everything you may need is available and in very good condition. Summary: My husband and me recently stayed in this character filled cottage in Burgundy. We didn't realise how lovely it was till we arrived: recently renovated, really thoughtfully appointed and decorated....and with great beds! This place was less a cottage and more a house: it has a practical floorplan, with the all essential separate toilet, and a lovely well equipped kitchen which got a real workout as we love to cook and were really interested in trying the local produce. We highly recommend it.

Summary: From the moment we arrived, it was heaven! A quaint, French countryside town within easy travelling distance to many similar market towns, wineries and only a two hour drive to Paris. The property was spotless, with all the amenities needed to make your own meals/ do washing etc. The owners couldn't have been more helpful if they tried and had included a folder of tips for visitors- best boulangerie's (try the one in Chevannes- although you will never want to leave!) local walks, restaurants and tourist attractions. It was such a beautiful, relaxing family holiday, my wife and 2 kids are counting down the days until we return. Highly recommended!!!

Summary: I must say that we were a little nervous booking a holiday cottage because we have always been a hotel type traveller. Staying at Desjardins Cottage has completely changed our minds. Desjardins was incredibly homely, like you would expect from a cottage but also felt luxurious like a hotel room! I got the impression that the entire cottage has recently been refurbished, so everything is in perfect working order. The beds are outrageously comfortable and the linen was heaven! There are some gorgeous vintage furniture pieces and the home is really well styled, creating the luxe feel! Everything practical is at hand. Washing machine, dryer, kitchen utensils, bath towels, linen, etc! We did a lot of alfresco dining in the gorgeous courtyard, had lots of nice sleep ins due to full shutters closing across the windows, we had an incredible stay. Friends came from London for the weekend and they mentioned that the fold out sofa bed in the lounge room was the best they had slept on! The best thing is that the lounge room can be closed right off if you do use the sofa bed. The region surrounding the cottage is exceptional. Wine, food, scenery, chateaus, the lot! We even did disneyland in a day, and snuck off the Paris for the night! I can't recommend this cottage highly enough. It is safe, sparkling clean and incredibly comfortable. I can't imagine not visiting again. Thank you for having us Desjardins! Your cottage is a true gem, and we feel very fortunate to have experienced it!
