Travel Purpose: leisure

Positive: Not quite what we expected, but comfortable. We had read that you pick up the key from the address, and they asked for our time of arrival, so we thought that meant the owner would be at the premises. But no, this is an apartment that is strictly vacation rental I think, and is run by a property management company; we didn’t meet anyone for our 4 night stay. There were limited reviews, but both 9 stars, the photos were beautiful, so we were pretty confident. It is in a quiet working class residential area, directly across the street from a huge park used mainly for sports. The entire apartment is furnished by IKEA, right down to the dishes and art work, and is nicely decorated. Kitchen was well supplied, although no dishwasher, but we knew that. Internet was fast and reliable. Bed was just a double (no room for bigger), but was comfortable, with decent linens. It was very hot while we were there, and there is no fan, so even though we removed the heavy quilt it was uncomfortably warm at night - didn’t leave the windows open as it’s ground floor. An 8-9 minute walk to the metro subway station, and 20 minutes ride (10 stops) to Old Lyon, the tourist district. There is an excellent little restaurant at the end of the street called Kebob Braisse, very reasonably priced.

Negative: This place is much smaller than we expected from the pictures, although they made very good use of the space. However, WAY too many knickknacks that used up essential space, and made the place feel quite crowded. No table for eating, just 2 stools by the kitchen counter, which was also your food prep area. And very limited kitchen cupboards, with one shelf so high I couldn’t reach it. There were only 2 towels - no hand or kitchen towels. We notified the company immediately, and the next day they messaged back that there had been a problem with linen delivery…….they would try to get us some tea towels. However, that didn’t happen, and we had to buy our own. We had a small problem with parking too. There is a driveway inside the gate, which we thought was for our use based on the ad description, but we could only open the doorway, not the entire gate. There is lots of free street parking, so we thought the “free private parking” meant park in front of the driveway with the no parking sign. But no, we came home to find a car inside the gate, so we moved our car out of the way (fortunately the kind owner did not call the police). “You can relax in the garden” the ad said, but it was a weed choked mess. In the end, once we got over our disappointment, the apartment was quite comfortable, although is in desperate need of a fan.

Summary: Not quite as described, but comfortable except in hot weather.
