Lone Other | Early1880s farmhouse in rural Eastern Kentucky Appalachia.

3 Bedroom Place in Lone, Booneville

The Old Farmhouse is located on an 80-acre working forage farm in the rural Eastern Kentucky Appalachian Mountains, an area rich in history and mountain tradition.
It's a step back in time but, with modern conveniences. With 2 full beds upstairs and a queen bed downstairs, it will accommodate up to 6 adult guests and you will have the entire home to yourself. It also offers a fully equipped kitchen, a parlor, an office area, a full bath with a laundry area on the first floor and another full bath upstairs, both with showers.
The house is believed to have been built sometime in the early1880's originally constructed with hand-hewn beams for the foundation, square nails and rough-sawn lumber. After a 3-year plus restoration of the home, much of the original structure was left intact. The house features original style mill work and siding, original window frames with the "wavy" window glass, original gable-end architecture, replicated and original window trims, a metal roof, half-round guttering, the original hand-made, hand-planed kitchen door with its square nails, locally milled hard-maple flooring and other time-appropriate features along with some curious construction anomalies left as originally constructed. It's furnished with early 1900's and vintage furniture and Victorian replicas including a 1930's working radio and a Sears phonograph, a 1924 farmhouse sink, Gone with the Wind lamps, antique fireplace mantle and decorative summer covers over the closed fireplaces. As a neighbor said, "It's like coming home".
During your stay, you may see various wildlife such as deer, turkey and other animals native to the area. On a clear night, you can star-gaze or sit under our partially covered pavilion watching the fireflies (lightning bugs as they are called here) and listen to the sounds of the occasional whippoorwill call or the "whoo whoo" of a Great Horned Owl and in early spring, the sounds of the frogs "singing". You have access to an outdoor grill, fire pit, picnic table, outdoor seating, outdoor games of horseshoes, and bean bag toss (cornhole) and (during warm months) an outdoor TV under the pavilion to stream your favorite shows. Or, if you choose, you may want to hike thru the woods on the farm or maybe just sit on the front porch in one of our cane-bottomed antique rockers and straight-backed chairs and birdwatch or enjoy checkers or chess in the parlor.
Since it is a working forage farm, on occasion, you may see and hear vintage tractors and farm equipment as we prepare for harvesting square baled hay.
The location is within approximately 35 miles of the Red River Gorge and Natural Bridge State Resort Park, Buckhorn Lake State Park, and Levi Jackson State Park. Nearby activities include rock climbing, hiking (including the Motherlode), Sag Hollow Golf Course, underground kayaking, ziplines, ATV trails (including Wildcat ATV Park in London, KY) bowling, indoor rock climbing and more.

Summary: As a lover of all things vintage … our house was built in 1911 (Florida)….Steve and Zina have done an AMAZING job with this property. Beautiful inside and out. We had a wonderful stay with our most gracious hosts. From stocking the fridge with breakfast items (yes they ask what you would like in the fridge) to our welcome walk thru…,definitely heading back up there soon. We travel a lot (Hilton Diamond for Life)) and VRBO frequent guest… this is a must on any travelers list. Thank you for our wonderful visit to Kentucky! We will see you all this summer!

Summary: Cedar Hill exceeds expectations!! This charming establishment truly is exemplary and does not disappoint. The goal of replicating Cedar Hill to its original era is evident upon pulling into the driveway. Walking into the house is a step back in time as you will be beyond impressed with the furnishings. Without a doubt, the owners had a vision brought to life that only happens with a true passion and desire to please others. Not only is the establihment beautiful, but it provides all the modern amenities needed inside and outside, as well as being immaculate. It is so clean and tidy!!! I had the pleasure of meeting the owners, Zina and Stephen, and felt as if I had new friends upon leaving. It was a pleasure to learn more about the home and restoration project of Cedar Hill. They were so kind to my family members, especially my little active 18 month old nephew. Their hospitality is rare, as one feels at home, rather than being in a rental. I truly cannot wait to return and take other family members with me. I have found my "home away from home". A big "THANK YOU" to Zina and Stephen for creating the PERFECT Cedar Hill in my hometown!

Summary: Looking over the photos of the 1880 Farmhouse, I wasn't sure as it looked so fancy with a lot of great furniture. I am so glad I went ahead and rented. The home is very comfy! The host and hostess have thought of everything to ensure your stay is a welcome memory. Their home is so inviting. We were coming to Booneville for genealogy. We stayed because of the Farmhouse. The porch rockers are so relaxing. We spent time at the home just enjoy all the amenities of the outdoor area. I really cannot say enough about the wonderful, relaxing time we had in this home. The kitchen is fully equipped. The bathroom towels are soft, good quality, soap, shampoo, conditioner and body wash are all provided. We slept so well in the beds. Overall, it was a great experience and we are planning a trip back to enjoy the comfort of the Farmhouse.
