Positive: Breakfast was standard but filling. Having breakfast on a verandah overlooking the cultivated patch of cloud forest that is El Descanso’s backyard was singularly wonderful. It’s a nonstop living tapestry of hummingbirds, tanagers, doves, flycatchers and more, plus agoutis scampering on the ground. I can’t think of a better way to start the day than in Rodney’s backyard, with a cup of hot chocolate.
Negative: No complaints. The room was clean and comfortable and the shower was hot.
Summary: Exceptionally pleasant. I’d go back any day.

Positive: This rustic hotel offers excellent value for money.It is spotlessly clean with comfortable beds and a nice hammock /lounge space.I particularly appreciated their beautiful garden full of humming birds !Thankyou so much for a very pleasant stay!

Negative: The only downside was that the WiFi in the rooms was not good. The WiFi in the common area works greatly, however.

Negative: Not particularly child friendly so better for solo travellers or adults.

Positive: The name of this place is perfect - “El Descanso” or “The Rest”. I really enjoyed my stay here especially because of the great attention by the owner Rodney. He gave me perfect recommendations for seeing birds, going on hikes, and he even let me borrow some binoculars to see the birds up close. The room was cozy and the bed was comfortable. The wifi worked sufficiently. The shower was hot. The breakfast with a view of the birds in front of you was amazing. The price is really reasonable for everything. The location is close to the central park. The hammocks outside the room were so relaxing. Highly recommended.

Positive: Just an absolute dream. Rodny is just the nicest guy. He’s tended to the garden at the back for years and you can really tell as it’s now flourishing with activity. From guatusas to ardillas, toucans and an immense array of hummingbirds, all shooting around whilst you’re sitting at breakfast! The balcony feels like you’re right in the jungle but from the comfort of a hammock. Rodny gave us all sorts of great recommendations (food and hikes) and was quick to ask about our days and show us birds we hadn’t seen. Breakfast was solid and also called taxis for us. Really lovely place and I doubt anyone will be upset at staying here. Loved this place

Positive: Amazing place to stay, the personnel is very friendly and besides Spanish, they also speak English and German. The breakfast is great, and the many feeders make it an excellent spot for birdwatching as well.
