Stunningly situated at the meeting point of several tidal bodies of water, this serene, waterfront home is a place for basking in the beauty of Midcoast Maine. Enjoy watching the great blue heron from your own deep-water dock. You'll have four kayaks to take out each morning and spectacular views of the Sheepscot and Back Rivers.
This two-story home sits on the shores of the waterway that connects the Sheepscot and Back Rivers to a large tidal basin. It's an incredibly private spot to swim, kayak, and fish, yet you'll also be less than seven miles from downtown Wiscasset and nine miles from bustling Boothbay Harbor, and 11 miles from the beautiful village of Damariscott.
The house itself is tranquil and minimalist, with plentiful windows and skylights that bring in the surrounding trees and the water below. The open living and dining area is flooded with natural light, offering beautiful views of the water below and a lovely space to read or play a board game at the elegant dining room table. Glass doors lead out back to an expansive, multi-level deck, where you can barbecue on the gas grill and dine with sunset views of the water. The deck even connects to an extraordinary sunroom on the side of the house, with sliding doors on all sides that open to let in the summer breeze.
Sail, take a boat trip exploring the coast, hike in one of the nearby preserves, or enjoy a seafood dinner at a waterside restaurant in Boothbay harbor. Prepare dinner using stainless steel appliances in the kitchen, retreat to the den for an evening movie (via streaming or cable), and sleep soundly in one of three bedrooms - a primary bedroom downstairs and two bedrooms upstairs.

Summary: While we had a bit of difficulty getting to Back River lookout on a very rainy day, once we arrived we were blown away by the natural beauty that awaited us. We used our home as a base for multiple day trips and enjoyed family time gazing at the amazing panoramic views. Highly recommend.

Summary: Our family has always dreamed of coming to Maine. We found Back River Lookout on line and loved it immediately. The house, property and view exceeded our expectations. Same was true with the interior. Spacious, clean and beautifully decorated. The best part was the absolute silence inside the home and out. We will refer friends and family here and hope to return ourselves in the near future. Don’t look any further! If you are reading this review, you have found a true gem of a vacation home in Maine.

Summary: We loved the BREATHTAKING water views that hit us the second we walked in the door, which we soaked in every day from the well-appointed open living space and deck. We were 6 adults, and the house was perfect for us: spacious and well equipped. It was also spotless, clean and comfortable. We BBQed and ate on the deck outside with the beautiful surroundings - probably the most serene place we have ever stayed. Reminded us of the Lake Como area. We took out the 4 kayaks from our private dock daily to paddle in the river with stunning views, where we saw fishing boats, harbor seals, and many species of birds. The house’s location was also perfect to explore the area: we were only 15 minutes from Boothbay Harbor and Damariscotta, where we went shopping, boating, and ate at waterside restaurants. We hope to be back next summer. Thank you for a great vacation stay!
