The deck has lots of outdoor seating including chairs and a swing. There are umbrellas for keeping cool in summer and a gas fire pit table for those chilly fall and winter nights. Enjoy a game of ping pong with the table in the rec room by the garage.
Limitless activities abound right on the property for the whole family regardless of the season - a couple of ideas to plan for by season…
In the Winter, we get up to 4+ feet of snow, so unleash the kids on epic sledding hills or build snowmen and forts to your hearts delight. HIGHLY recommend bringing some snowshoes to trek through virgin blankets of snow and spy for tracks from snowshoe hares that roam the property.
In the Spring, Summer and Fall there is plenty of room to roam around the property or take advantage of the world class biking, hiking, and horse trails nearby. If you love wildlife, bring your binoculars and camera to count the species of birds you can find, or wake up early and look out for Deer and Elk. World class fishing is available at Vallecito reservoir year round.

Summary: View was absolutely amazing. The silence was a welcome relief. Cons: 30 minutes from a grocery store. Internet impossible. Place can house 18-20 people but the sinks that provide for most of the people have a pedestal sink. Nothing to even hang a hand towel on. Literally had to leave it crumpled up on the edge of the sink. Towel storage was a joke. The water - oh the water. The smell when showering was nauseating. The sulfur smell was overpowering. Had to use bottled water just to brush your teeth. I feel like 18-20 is too many people for this house. We had 14 and the bathroom situation was PAINFUL. If coming in after dark on your first night its terrifying. You are in the middle of nowhere with vague directions, pitch black and no cell service. That long crazy bumpy driveway felt never ending. Honestly not sure I would stay there again unless I never wanted to leave the house due to the driveway and distance from a grocery store.

Summary: We loved Cherry Valley Chalet! It has an absolutely stunning view. We loved the privacy of the property. It was within easy driving distance of the things we wanted to do - hike at Lake Vallecito, playing in the river in Bayfield, going to church in Durango. But the house and property itself are the best part. This would be an ideal place to just get away and relax (which we weren't really able to do with several small children!). However - be advised the wifi is not very good, so it would not be a good place to try and work remotely. And if you are wanting to constantly be on the go - the gate and long driveway would become a hassle. Everything about the house was really nice - good kitchen, nice beds, plenty of clean towels and linen, lots of space to gather as well as to go off on one's own. The biggest drawback to this property is the incredibly stinky water! I had read this in some of the reviews but didn't regard it much. But it is significant! The instruction notebook mentions the fact that the well water has a sulfur smell - there is a filtration system, but it sometimes gets overworked and the smell really gets strong. I don't say this to discourage anyone from reserving this really beautiful property, just be aware.

Summary: There were 6 of us who have know each other for more than 50 years gathering for a week of fun in Durango. We get together every 10 years in the Colorado mountains for 4 day hikes and wilderness camping. We left the wives behind, just the guys this time. The property is almost too fantastic for words. We had basic requirements - a room for everyone, a view, a bit of isolation, great interior, big kitchen and a large dining table where we could gather and repeat stories of past adventures, philosophize, pontificate and generate some good natured joking with each other and lots of laughs. The house and property greatly exceeded expectations. The property had the best sunrises of any we had been in. Really astounding. Elk and wild turkeys visited the yard almost daily, The silence was comforting. Views from the deck amazing. Durango became my new favorite Colorado town with really good restaurants, good hiking trails and rafting and kayaking the Animas river. Getting back and forth from the house looks tough on a map but was easy and maybe 20 minutes We all claimed it as one of the best vacations of any we've ever had, and will certainly come back - together or individually and, next time, with the wives. Drawbacks - only one of us had decent cell service. It is sparse in the house and even on the roads to Durango. Wifi was decent. As noted in the book of directions for the house, if too much water is used at one time - baths, washing clothes or dishes - a sulphury smell will emerge. It was strong for some, lighter for others. Harmless the book says, but it will take a while to dissipate. Highly recommend reading the book of instructions as soon as you get settled. We've all stayed in many properties around the world, in mountains, beaches, cities etc. This one is top of the list for us. We'll be back!

Summary: Our stay was amazing! We had 14 people for family vacation and we loved the space, open air, & solitude. I could have stayed forever! A couple notes: 1. The instructions stress making sure the gate is always closed, which we did. However, there were several occasions when we left or arrived that the gate was already open. There is another house/neighbors and I realize we can only do what is asked of US. It did make us a bit nervous that if something went wrong there could be ramifications for something outside of our control. 2. The well water has a sulfur smell. It didn’t actually bother me at all since I’m just a hippy at heart. We did have some family that just couldn’t get past it. They really struggled the whole trip. Perhaps it could be mentioned in the property description or rental agreement. I’m not sure what difference it would make aside from allowing people who may be sensitive to that smell to be aware of what they are getting into- I would have rented anyways and it would not keep me from returning. 3. The hot tub could use some updates. The cover is old and on the verge of breaking. At one point my brother couldn’t get the jets to turn off. A part came off and we had to fix it. In addition, the agreement asks us to add chemicals after use but we couldn’t find any instructions to tell us how or how much, we can only hope we did it right since cell service is not good enough to do any in depth internet research on it. A couple little things sure, but this place is truly beautiful. The kids loved the game room. The star gazing was AMAZING. There’s lakes and rivers nearby. It’s a great central location for adventure and exploration of the area. We saw dear every single day, and bunnies! Certainly deserving of ALL FIVE ⭐️ STARS!

Summary: This cabin was so beautiful and had amazing scenery and views. It accommodated a family of 18 comfortably only complaint I have is that the tempi tier in a 3 story cabin was hard to manage. It was freezing in the lower level, a little too warm on the mid leave and burning hot at the top level. Besides that everything was great and it’s close to all the excursions we did including, rafting, renting a boat and renting atvs.

Summary: The description of the property is spot on. If want to get away from the hustle and bustle and enjoy the views, this is your spot. A couple things that were not so great, the entry gate. You have to hop out of your vehicle to unlock the lock, and it can turn into a two person job especially if it’s raining. We were in Durango(approx 20 + min drive) getting groceries so I called to make sure we could use the grill and fire pit for s’mores . I was told yes, there are always at least 2 extra propane tanks. The grill wasn’t a problem because it’s actually hooked up to a gas line. The fire pit wasn’t working and we couldn’t find any extra propane tanks. There were probably 5 long lighters but none worked. I called and was told some tanks would be brought out in the morning, but for us, our night at the residence to enjoy the amenities was the night before. The driveway to the residence you actually share with a neighbor. The first day there we met the neighbor rounding a corner in our car. When we got back to the residence that evening there was a sign on the gate for us. Overall, you will love the serenity of the property.

Summary: Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was very clean. I was more than happy with the location. I was very satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Beautiful! Cellular coverage none existent, BUT was wonderful to disconnect. Wi-fi was a bit slow. However ...again, nice to disconnect. If you can't put you devices down, than I don't recommend this for you. If you are looking for quality time ...games, cards, outside activities, relaxing, reading ...highly suggest this home. Hot tub was used a lot in evenings. We didn't mind the distance from town or highway to the house.Water did smell like sulfur a few days into our stay, so the odor for showers overwhelmed the senses. I'm sure it was just filter issues.Over all it was amazing for a family reunion. Kitchen literally had everything you needed. Full washer/dryer was nice. Big nice dining table.Views are incredible. Plenty of areas in the home to spread out.
