1 Bedroom Cabin in Broadway

A quiet cabin tucked away off the beaten path. Just under 800 square feet, with one bedroom and one bathroom.
It's comfortable, but not luxurious.
The library is extensive and growing. The books are a mix between my own personal collection, purchases from thrift stores and used bookstores specifically for the cabin, gifts from friends, as well as the extensive personal library of a former Princeton University professor purchased at auction.
The collection includes, truly, something for everybody:
-Fiction, from lowbrow pulp to highbrow literature
-Non fiction, from academic reference manuals to coffee table books to how-to manuals
-Poetry
-Art
-Comic books
-A small collection of self-published punk 'zines from all over the country
-A few literary journals
-National Geographic
-pulp sci-fi periodicals
-A lot more
The music collection is smaller, but also growing. Feel free to bring your own vinyl records or CDs for the stereo system!
There is also a functional shortwave radio and a functional mechanical typewriter on the desk in the living room.
Guests are welcome to use the fire pit.
Guest access
The road to our cabin is typical of many in the area, which is to say it's gravel, narrow, and ranges from steep to very steep. In normal weather, any car can make it just fine (my old little hatchback never had a problem), but if you're not used to driving on this kind of road, you might find it more exciting than you'd prefer.
If snow or ice are in the forecast, four wheel drive is recommended.

Other things to note
The cabin is on well water you may prefer to bring drinking water if your use to that.
Most cell service providers will have limited or cell phone service in the area (Verizon, in my experience, is the most likely to work).

Summary: This was a perfect weekend get-away and the owner has thought of everything. The cabin is easy to get to and has everything you need. Well equipped with towels, linens, pots and pans. Keep in mind this is a cabin, if you pack it in, please pack it out. Nobody wants your left over anything as it can lead to critters etc. There are a couple of houses/cabins within the area so you may hear dogs barking etc. and if you do bring your pet, definitely keep them on a long line/leash. Plenty of wildlife, we must have spotted at least 8 deer grazing in front of the deck and looking quite chill. Weather was perfect for stargazing and sitting outside enjoying a beverage. The deck looks into the forest, there is no mountain view. We did not use the wood stove but did use the gas fireplace on the 2nd night to take off the chill. We needed that since we had driven to the Shrine Mont Retreat and hiked the North Mountain trail which everyone said would be easy but turned out to be rather strenuous and took us all day. (The view once you got there was spectacular but the entire trail is pretty much a rock scramble all the way up and then all the way down.) With all the books we were surprised not to find a Scrabble board game! High compliments to the owner on the eclectic library and décor and wishing them continued success with the property. Overall it was/is a great little cabin and if you are looking to unplug, read, write, chill and look at the stars, worth a visit.

Summary: Stayed here while visiting my daughter during JMUs parents weekend. So happy to have found this gem. If you like rustic, wilderness and being disconnected this is the place. Off a dirt road this cabin was quiet and peaceful. Love the way it is furnished. Great selection of books. Vinyls and record player. Just plane fun. And did I mention quiet and isolated. I will be back.

Summary: Cozy cabin, fabulous book selection - something for everybody. I found a book by Barbara Kingsolver that I had not even heard of. One note- with AT&T as my carrier I could not access internet at all; my friend has Verizon and could download some email. But the promised weak internet connection was not weak for me, it was nonexistent.

Summary: The cabin was just as described in the listing. It was very cozy and inviting. The setting was peaceful and relaxing. We enjoyed warming up by the firepit and gazing at the stars. The pup loved the room to run and explore. The books were a nice way to spend time being lazy by the fireplace which heats the entire cabin quite quickly. The typewriter was a bit of a challenge but really fun to toy with. I would recommend this this get away spot highly, especially those who don't mind being disconnected from the internet.

Summary: A bit hard to find initially in the dark. It is not the most elegant, contemporary, or stylish spot. But it contains a surprisingly broad collection of books and music that make it a very cool spot. The proprietor was also very responsive, accommodating, and flexible with the check-out time.

Summary: The cabin is pleasant, comfortable and secluded. You won't see anything but woods from the back porch. The book collection is no joke - no matter your taste you will find something to suit you. It's about an hour from Shenandoah NP and about 45 minutes from Luray Caverns. There is also nice hiking at Wolf Gap Recreation Area (West Virginia) about 40 minutes away. My only complaint, which is minor, is that while there were some pots and pans, they were on the small side, and there were no cooking basics like salt or oil when we went (we left some behind, so right now there is stuff, but might be worth packing your own). There is a Food Lion and a Dollar General ~17 minutes away. There was a Brita pitcher in the fridge which worked perfectly to get rid of the iron and slight sulfur taste in the well water. There were plenty of towels and the bed was comfortable. It does creak pretty loudly when you get in and out, but the mattress doesn't move much, which was a nice plus for us, since I tend to toss and turn and my husband is a light sleeper. The cabin does not have full internet (we were told there is a hotspot for emergencies, but not to be used for streaming videos. We didn't even try connecting because we didn't want to use up precious data) and our phones did not have signal, so you will be disconnecting and returning to a simpler time during your vacation, which personally we love. We downloaded some movies and crossword puzzles at home to bring with us, but in addition to the books the cabin came stocked with a jigsaw puzzle, playing cards, and at least one two-player game. We enjoyed our stay and would return!

Summary: We had a beautiful stay here. The view in the mountains is amazing. The cabin is cozy and very comfortable. We loved looking at and reading all the books, magazines and comics. It's well furnished and supplied. Everything in the listing is accurate. It's definitely off the beaten path and we loved being able to disconnect for a few days. We went to the luray caverns nearby which were breathtaking. We would definitely stay here again.
