Sun, sand, lake, pine trees, and loons - a perfect combination for a fabulous family vacation!
Phort Phil is a cozy cabin and bunkhouse located on Horseshoe Lake near both Brainerd and and Crosslake, MN.
During the summer, this is a perfect lake for fishing, waterskiing, wake boarding, canoeing, kayaking, paddle boarding and all water based activities. There is plenty of room at the private dock to tie up your speed boat or pontoon. Children will enjoy building playing on the sand beach and building sand castles. When you're ready for a change of pace, take a ride on the new bikes (4 with helmets) or challenge your family to a game of Ping-Pong!
There are several family-friendly activities in the area. Enjoy a bike ride on the Paul Bunyan Trail or stroll through one of the nearby woodland or wetland preserves. Play a round of golf; both mini golf and championship courses are nearby. Retail shops and local restaurants are in town, just 10 minutes away.
This is also a great location for a winter get away - the lake is perfect for ice fishing, cross country skiing, and snowshoeing. It’s also a fantastic area to access the endless miles of groomed snowmobile trails.
This family lake property sleeps 12 people in all - the main cabin sleeps 3 and the newly built bunkhouse (2016) sleeps 9 with 2 full baths located in the main cabin. Both the main cabin and bunkhouse have heat and A/C. The main cabin has a 5 star sound system.
The cabin is fully furnished. The kitchen includes cooking and dining ware, four-burner stove, oven, refrigerator, freezer, coffee maker, microwave, toaster, and pizza oven. A natural gas grill is on the deck with a commercial grade picnic table.
*No campers, RVs, trailers, etc. allowed.

Summary: Beach on the Lake was beautiful, sandy and spent most of our time right there. Cabin was well equipped. Kind of outdated small bedrooms and bathroom. Basement bathroom newer. Nice to have access to washer and dryer. Bunkhouse was really nice, especially for a family with kids. The stairs on the deck on the bunkhouse a little shaky. Liked the garage space for some of our items, and the added bonus of ping pong. Portapotty was really clean and nice (could add hand sanitizer). Recommend adding a walkway from the beach and having the hose closer to the grass and beach so that there isn't so much sand close to the door, but really appreciated the hose to wash off with. Natural gas grill was decent, but could use some newer parts. Outside picnic table really nice as well as the two lawn chairs on the beach. Lots of room for parking and game playing.

Summary: Great place, Main cabin bedrooms were smaller than expected, but do able. Bunkhouse house was awesome for the 8 kids. The beach area was awesome. Water was clear we could see down about 8-10 feet. We had a great time!

Summary: The cabin was a lovely place for a long over due family vacation. The cabin was very well stocked, all the essentials for a good family dinner. The bedrooms in the main cabin were a bit tight, but doable. The bunk house was beautiful, the only downside was no bathroom in the bunkhouse. The cabin sits right on a sandy beach on Horseshoe Lake, that is the best part! We rented a pontoon and really had the lake mostly to ourselves during the week. Great stay, I highly recommend if you are looking for a lovely get away without breaking the bank!

Summary: This was our second year at Fort Phil. Our second week this summer. You will not find a better beach anywhere! The property has all you need and the bunkhouse is great. Beth is wonderful to work with and quick to respond. My grandkids never want to leave.
