Positive: I liked Rodger, he was very pleasant, helpful, and at the ready. The house has an awesome view from the lounge and breakfast areas of the bay (as it is up a hill). Very pretty bay at night with the street lights. Unfortunately earlier guests had swapped out on rooms, so I missed out on getting one of the rooms with this view also, so I recommend a room with a view. I paid $190 (April 25) for the George Gillies Room, I guess that was the "on peak" price, because I looked today and the " off peak" price is now $141 (June 25). So if, like me, you are into staying at cool old houses now and then, then price wise it would be better to do this in the off peak times. The house itself is very cool :) Lots of natural wood, high ceilings and ornate period decoration. Enjoyed the art works etc. around the walls too. I can't speak for the other rooms, but ours was comfortable and warm, though the heater was rattling a little (but I managed to get it to be quieter by giving the fan switch a really decent click). There was a little fridge and tea coffee making gear. Bed was comfy. The bed was two singles put together, so basically King size with 3 pillows across. No chance of roll together! I notice in the website room photos, the other rooms also have 3 pillows across, so they appear to be the same set up. Breakfast was ample. Plenty of coffee and I was very happy sitting in the sun looking at the view over breakfast. TV and pool table in the lounge. Would be great if a group took the rooms, I could see it would be a wonderful space to enjoy with friends. Like that there was off street parking, a little tight but all good. Not in a busy part of Oamaru, so a quiet stay.
Negative: The bathroom and toilet were clean and good to have, but in this room, they were kind of pokey. Would not recommend this particular bath room for tall and/or very wide people. Shower was good, but made hearing the the room TV very hard for the non-showering person. Oil column heater needed a very hefty button clicking to turn built in fan off.
Summary: Warm, comfortable, great host, cool house and a wonderful harbour view.

Positive: Such a nice comfortable stay. Roger , the host, was so accommodating and nice to talk with. Close to the downtown and shops/ restaurants. We loved the proximity to the waterfront and the penguins and seals.
Negative: The house was very comfortable, but was a bit musty.
