Victoria Park Cottage | Fort Lauderdale Tiny House on its own lot in Victoria Park near Las Olas & Beach

2 Bedroom Cottage in Victoria Park, Fort Lauderdale

The Cracker Shack Tiny House is an open plan Florida cottage with living, dining, and work spaces, a quality queen size ships bunk, a walk-in closet with washer and dryer, a full bath with whirlpool tub and shower combo, a full kitchen with dual stainless sink, dishwasher, refrigerator, microwave convection oven, toaster oven and coffee maker, and quality cookware and dishware. There is a large deck facing the back yard with hammock and Holiday Park beyond. There is also a covered front porch. The property is fenced all around with tall hedges surrounding it.
Furnished with my grandparents North Carolina porch wicker, my motherโ€™s Welsh Pine armoire, a narrow desk with an antique rolling chair from the S and O railroad office in Chicago, my step-brothers antique cedar chest found in the attic of a 1930โ€™s house he bought in Delray, a queen size bed built into an alcove like a ships bunk with a back yard view and hidden storage underneath, and some painted pine pieces to fill in.
Outside there is vintage wrought iron furniture on the back deck; a round table with umbrella and four chairs, and a cast aluminum chair and footstool that came from the Hollywood Beach Resort Hotel from 1926, and two lounge chairs . You can hear tennis rackets whacking balls at the Jimmy Evert Tennis Center in Holiday Park, or a concert in the Park on Friday nights in Summer, not the lions roar Olive remembered remembered when it was home to the Clyde Beatty Lion Farm.
When you are in this house you feel like you are in the country in a different, gentler age, but it is in the heart of downtown Fort Lauderdale. Two rusted but serviceable beach cruisers are available for guest use. A Smart TV with Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime accounts and an antenna for broadcast tv, wi-fi, Panasonic sound system with Bluetooth and Amazon dot deliver music, news and entertainment. Experience living in a tiny house, you may find its all you need!
What is a Florida Cracker? According to Wikipedia, โ€œAmong some Floridians, the term is used as a proud or jocular self-description. Since the huge influx of new residents into Florida in the late 20th and early 21st centuries, from the northern parts of the United States and from Mexico and Latin America, the term "Florida Cracker" is used informally by some Floridians to indicate that their families have lived in the state for many generations. It is considered a source of pride to be descended from "frontier people who did not just live but flourished in a time before air conditioning, mosquito repellent, and screensโ€ Iโ€™d say thatโ€™s about right. Poor tough pioneers living in the harsh conditions of Florida. Air conditioning changed the trajectory of the State, and the rest, they say, is history.
Available for periods of 30 days or more.
Note: There is a security camera outside on the front of house that monitors the front deck, front yard and parking areas. There is an Amazon Alexa disc that is not a surveillance device. Feel free to unplug it if that spooks you, but remember to plug it back it.

Summary: My husband and I recently spent January and February at the cottage with our two Whippets and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The cottage is located in Victoria Park, a beautiful upscale residential neighborhood within steps from the Parker Playhouse and War Memorial Auditorium. As well, there is a grassy field behind the cottage property that is frequently used on weekends for local events at these two venues, however, the tranquility of the location was not at all affected by these events. It was always quiet and peaceful, wonderful for walking two energetic dogs. The cottage itself is very small with a true beach feeling, but nicely equipped with Cuisenart cookware and Mikasa dishes. There was also ample glassware and cutlery. I believe the cottage was recently painted with new bathroom fixtures and for those interested a jetted tub. The grounds are probably what sold us on the residence which has a very nice size fenced in back yard, which was perfect for the dogs to run off leash. Very tropical lush foliage all around the property with tons of seating as well as a very nice gas grill. Overall the cottage was nicely decorated, although not fancy it was very charming. The grounds and neighborhood are lovely, but because of the size it may not be for everyone. The owner was very attentive and helpful and whenever we had a question or needed anything (which was not often) he responded very quickly. Would definitely recommend this property!

Summary: We have utilized HomeAway for other properties and had been very happy with out choices. This cottage did not let us down. Perfect for two or three people. We were centrally located to all that's happening in Ft. Lauderdale and near all major highways. The beach was only a few miles away. Grocery stores and restaurants were in walking distance. There was nothing that we were in need of in regards to cooking, laundry, Wi-Fi, etc. The backyard was large and beautiful. I would strongly recommend this property and hopefully, we may be able to stay there again. Couldn't have been happier. I would strongly recommend this property to anyone.

Summary: If you are looking for an alternative to Fort Lauderdale's typical beachfront housing, I would highly recommend the Cracker Shack. Owner Rob (a local REALTOR) has done an amazing job of combining modern amenities with the charm of early Fort Lauderdale. Grocery stores (Winn Dixie and Fresh Market) and restaurants (I highly recommend The Whole Enchilada) are within walking distance of the cottage, which abuts Victoria Park. Note: The greenspace directly behind the property isn't necessarily a park, but is sometimes used for event parking for park events. The weekend I stayed at the Shack, there was a gun and ammunition show (hey, it's Florida!), so the greenspace was used for parking. But this is just an FYI. It was not a problem. Wonderful kitchen, breakfast bar, and dining area. If your party consists of more than two people (who don't mind "shacking" up), then this isn't the property for you as there's only one (very comfortable) bed. Bathroom is nice, with adequate water pressure. I didn't use the jetted tub, but it's there. Wicker furniture is charming, but not terribly comfortable for long-term sitting. The smart tv was a nice feature, as was the writing desk. A washer and dryer...wow! Breakfast on the back patio was a great way to start each day, as were cocktails in the evening. The backyard also features a 1960s Airstream trailer, which Rob the owner is restoring. He's quite the Airstream fan, given the accessories in the Shack. I took advantage of one of the beach cruiser bikes and made a day of riding down to the beach. The traffic is insane, and most roads feature bike lanes. Bottom line, stay at the Cracker Shack. Enjoy the beach from a distance. Experience a Fort Lauderdale neighborhood (eccentric neighbors and all) that you won't find at one of the many beachside highrise hotels. Walk to the park, or to the store. Walk to Las Olas and dine along the waterway. Wake to the sun from your ship's berth bed. Plan your day at the writing desk. Or just sit in an Adirondack chair on the front porch and say hello to a neighbor. You won't regret it.
