Ocean Beach (OB) on Fire Island is a charming small community without cars, where residents walk barefoot to the beach, ride bicycles and use wagons to carry belongings. We have enjoyed our summers here for 50+ years, and we think your family will love it too!
Fire Island is part of the National Seashore, and Ocean Beach (OB) is its largest town (8 blocks). An incorporated village, OB has 3 designated swimming areas with lifeguards at both the ocean and the Great South Bay, 2 playgrounds, a school library, movies, dock concerts, a day camp, tennis , pickleball, basketball & tennis courts, softball field, and plenty of shops and restaurants.

Summary: We felt like we were in a home that we would actually wont to own! it was well stocked, cutely decorated, and very comfortable. Having two screened in porches gave us different places to spend time as a family in the mornings and evenings. It was in a perfect location close to town, but also far enough away that it was quite at night. The owner was easily accessible, easy to work with, and cared about how our trip went. She touched base during and at the end of our vacation. We would definitly consider renting this home again.

Summary: We spent a week at this classic beach cottage in Ocean Beach. For our family (myself and 3 young adults), it was the perfect place for a beach vacation! The original part of the home is over 100 years old and it has been owned by the same family for about 50 years. It is small but has lots of extra space on the front and back screened porches and the large deck. The furnishings and decorating are lovely. The kitchen is well-stocked. Beach towels, beach chairs and umbrellas, bicycles and boogie boards are included and the house is just a short walk from the beach. We love the outdoor shower (there is also a full bath inside). Sally, the host, is very responsive when questions arise. She met us at the house and showed us around when we checked in. It does get a bit warm on hot days but the two main bedrooms have window air conditioning units. The village has plenty of shops, restaurants, and bars, all of which are pricy, and not all of them take credit cards, so bring cash. Also, there are lots of rules to keep the beach clean and quiet: no music, no ball-playing, no food or drink except water. But the beach is very clean and peaceful.

Summary: I can't say enough great things about this house, the town, and the host. The house is beautifully designed/decorated to perfection and feels like a true homey beach cottage. The house is equipped with multiple bedrooms for comfort, two relaxing sun decks, a nice dining area, and the best part- an outdoor shower to get the true beach experience! The house is perfectly located, with less than a five minute walk to the beach on own end and the town on the other. Sally, the host, was very accommodating, easily accessible for any questions, a truly a great host. I can't wait to come back and stay in the future!

Summary: Sally has really thought of everything in this beautiful house. It is clean, comfortable, tastefully and warmly decorated - and has everything you could possibly expect in a Fire Island getaway. Lots of indoor outdoor space. And lots of places for people to be together or sneak away with a book. It's located directly between the beach (right near the lifeguards) and town. We were a family of four and couldn't have been happier there. We stayed for two weeks because the house was so nice. It was a dream.

Summary: We have been renting this beach cottage every summer for over 10 years. The house is impeccably clean. The property and amenities are exactly as described. We have recommended the house to friends. Sally is a great landlord. Although there is a cleaning service that comes weekly, she checks the house in between tenants to make sure everything is perfect. She is a fantastic decorator, and the house is open, well furnished, and inviting. Best of all, it is steps from both the beach and town. We love the deck, and when it’s buggy we spend time on the two screened porches (great for sleeping too). Our family will be returning every year. I highly recommend this property.

Summary: This is our second year renting this lovely home and we could not be happier with the owner, the house and all the "niceties" this place offers. For one, the only issue we had last year (the bed bunk 'guard' was not high enough for my paranoid mommy preference) was immediately fixed. Sally, the owner, takes everything very seriously and you can tell the love and care that has gone into this cottage over the years. It's constantly being updated and has such a lovely, modern, shabby chic vibe in a wonderful beach setting. The location is great as you are so close to the beach but far enough from the main center of the neighbor that you feel like you are away from it all. And what was very comforting is knowing Sally is just a text away to help with any questions or concerns. You won't be sorry!

Summary: We've stayed in Sally's lovely, comfortable cottage many summers! Pleasingly decorated, well-equipped kitchen, a/c in the bedrooms when needed. Beautiful deck, perfect for hanging out and reading, or eating at the umbrella table, and of course the outdoor shower. Grill plus well-equipped kitchen. Lawn chairs and boogie boards etc. Easy walk to beach; far enough from town that it's still quiet but close enough to run to store at last minute or enjoy dining out. Highly recommend.

Summary: If you are looking for a comfortable, convenient, gorgeously decorated cottage to spend your vacation look no further. Close to the beach and town the location could not be better. The cottage has all the comforts of home and plenty of cozy places to chill and enjoy nature and being at the beach. The house is very comfortable with plenty of room and every amenity you could think you need. Had an amazing time and can’t wait to go back.

Summary: We stayed here in August and absolutely LOVED the house. It is shabby chic with a lovely beach vibe where nothing seems forced. While I loved the decor on the inside, we spent most of our time on the two lovely screened in porches. My 5 year old LOVED discovering some of the old games and books and he now knows what a CD player is :) The kitchen is new and has everything you can think of. Her Fire Island cookbook was my favorite and we managed to not go out to eat once! I took a shower in the rain in their outdoor shower, which was just a bit of heaven. The house is maybe 100 steps from the beach and Sally is wonderful at communication. As hot as it was, we did not find need for the ACs in the bedroom as there was a wonderful breeze. My only recommendation would be for the top bunk bed to have a rail of sorts. It looked to be a custom built bed and was lovely, as was the selection of children's books at the top, but we didn't let our son sleep up there. We hope to return next year!
