7 Bedroom House in Hickory

Wonderful large lake home for family and company gatherings! Unique and quaint in so many ways! The house sits on 18 wooded acres on Lake Hickory and Drowning Creek (really? Who named that creek?) for a quiet, rural setting, but is only 5 miles from vibrant Downtown Hickory. The house sits on a hill with a short, but steep, walk to the lake (or take the little road down for an easier walk). The lake used to be hard to see from the house in the summer because of all the trees, but the view is now much better.
The house features 2 attached cottages (1K/1BA, 1Q/1BA) for maximum privacy that are attached to the home with a covered walkway. The main house has 2 bedrooms (1Q&1K or 2T, and 1Q&1K), a bunk room (4 built-in bunk beds), and a 3rd floor Crows Nest (2T BUT accessible only by a ladder). We also have 3 outdoor showers.
The fun never ends with an enormous separate garage that features basketball, foosball, pool, ping pong, darts and many other games. There is a bocce court and horseshoes close to the main house. There is also an outdoor fire pit in front of the house and another one by the lake.
A railroad track runs at the bottom of the hill next to the lake. The train runs a few times a week (during the day) and we love to wave to the engineer for a horn whistle. The track really gives the property a cool vibe!
This is a one of a kind great place to relax and enjoy family and friends!!! A true retreat!!!

Summary: We had 4 families staying: 7 adults, 1 teenager, and 6 kids ranging from 3yrs to 12. The unique home was a huge hit for the kids with bunk beds, lofts and a tower to sleep in! The adults slept comfortably as well with many beds available. In addition, everyone had plenty of activities to do including pool, drums, basketball, ping pong, darts and more in the barn. To top it off we also spent the day on the water at the dock with floats, kayaks and we brought our waverunner. The hosts were great, provided all the information we needed, check in/out was a breeze and they were always quick to respond with any questions I had. I would highly recommend this place to anyone. The whole family is asking when we're going to go back -Heather

Summary: Our family had a wonderful stay at this property! It was the perfect location to gather and celebrate a summer courthouse wedding. The layout of the house was perfect, and we especially enjoyed the porch and the large game room. The rooms were all comfortable and well appointed. We had some problems with water pressure and water temperature in some of the showers, which is my reason for given 4 stars instead of 5 (I would give 4.5 if I could). Claire and Susie were very communicative and responsive at all times, which was greatly appreciated! We would definitely consider this home again if we needed a large space for a gathering in the Hickory. Our family loved it!

Summary: Our family had a great time staying here! There was plenty to do at the property, the kids loved the garage and especially the drum set. The house was very spacious, plenty of sleeping options. The A/C worked very well. We loved using the outdoor showers! The walk to the lake wasn't ideal, especially lugging down the generously provided kayaks. But the lake was a lot of fun! The dock was very useful for getting in and out of the water. We rented a pontoon boat one day and were glad to have the dock. The kids loved seeing the train pass by next to the dock area. The double dishwasher kitchen came in handy, we definitely utilized both. We also enjoyed the extra large kitchen table. Grocery delivery from Publix through Instacart was easy as well. All that said, we did have issue where the hot water in the house went out a couple of times. The first time it happened the property manager was responsive and came to the property to resolve the issue. Unfortunately it went out a few more times after that and we temporarily fixed it ourselves. The single refrigerator was also a pain point. There was a second refrigerator but it was locked up. Other minor complaints: the smoke alarms went off randomly, you couldn't adjust the basketball hoop height, and the basketballs were flat with no way to air them up. All in all we enjoyed our time staying here. However for the pricey rate of this place we didn't feel like we should have had to repair the water heater.

Summary: Property fit our large family gathering comfortably. Place was exceptionally clean and quiet. Large kitchen made cooking for the group easy and 15 of us slept comfortably. Plenty to do on the lake and a lot of adventures close by.

Summary: Everyone adored the house! The great room with kitchen at one end, dining area, games/puzzle table, then sitting area with the screened-in porch with ceiling fans just beyond made for a great spot for all to gather. The A/C worked great. Hot water was always available. 2 dishwashers were convenient. While one was running, we'd begin putting dirty items in the other. The design meant noisy family members never bothered sleeping family members! The route to the lake wasn't a pleasant walk after doing it a few times. Grandparents gave up on it after day 2 even though they were in great physical shape. The others soldiered through to get their paddle boards and property kayaks to the dock and back. All loved the lake. A rented Pontoon boat and a grandson captain were a treat. Hickory Marina did a good job for us. Two grandchildren loved the odd sleeping options - porch swing and crow's nest. The 2nd refrigerator wouldn't have been available if we hadn't asked. With 2 out of 4 family units loving to cook, and all loving to eat, the 2nd fridge was essential. Pictures are spot on, some areas don't have a picture & which can present confusion, especially the access to the lake. The walks in the woods were great. Mosquitoes weren't a big problem which surprised me. Aldi delivers to the house if you have an instacart account. Nearby Food Lion had very helpful personnel. We had lots of FUN!!

Summary: Our group of friends very much enjoyed our 3-night stay here. The house was perfect for a large group. The space is maximized with plenty of beds and a large kitchen that flows into the living room and screened-in porch. We left the garage door to the porch open the majority of the time since the temp was in the high 60s. The fire pit was great and we managed to keep it going throughout the entire stay. Huge thanks to the owners for having wood delivered to us on short notice since we were about to run out. Everything in the description is accurate - this is a fantastic house perfect for families or friends to book. The location is a short drive away from downtown Hickory, hiking, golf, etc. Very much recommend and we are already discussing making this an annual visit.
