Positive: Great location for a week stay for hiking or birding around Gamvik, nice evening walk out to the lighthouse for supper at the cafe. Super friendly owners were welcoming and worked especially hard to keep the place clean and well ordered. Shared kitchen facilities were great with a full range of pots for cooking and multiple fridges for food storage. Kitchen window had a lovely view of the harbor with eiders, terns and skuas coming and going. Comfortable living rooms were great for working and watching Norway advance in the World Cup. Used the laundry facilities after several weeks on the road. Fantastic hiking areas and arctic birds in the area. Other guests were friendly and felt like a B&B with chats at breakfast and the evening. Would be glad to stay at the brakkebo again.

Negative: Room was relatively small with single beds only, maybe better for solo travelers than couples but the shared spaces in the kitchens and living rooms were large. Bathrooms were small and contained so constantly banging into shelves or water tanks. Relatively little room to hang up and dry wet clothes but the weather was mostly good.

Positive: There shouldn't be a misunderstanding: "brakkebo" in Norwegian means the same as "barracks" in English. It's an assembly of prefabricated modules like in a construction place or in a military installation .... meeting the hosts and entering inside you can appreciate the result of their efforts to create a welcoming hostel (not a hotel!) atmosphere accompanied by single and double rooms with en-suite bathrooms, ample cooking facilities and sitting space ... all that for an extremely reasonable price. Of course, as in any hostel, the quality of your stay depends also from those with whom you are sharing the place. I have been extremely lucky in this respect.

Negative: Everything was fine!

Positive: Gamvik is located in the far north of Norway on the Nordkyn Peninsula, right by the Barents Sea — remote, peaceful, and incredibly impressive. The drive itself is already part of the adventure: crossing the wide mountain plateaus and high mountain passes on the way feels like a truly epic road trip. The vast landscapes, the open skies, and the feeling of absolute space make the journey unforgettable. It is genuinely a destination worth traveling for. The accommodation itself is actually designed as a shared guesthouse with several rooms, but during our stay we had the entire place to ourselves, which made it even more special. We were welcomed extremely warmly by the owner, who personally showed us everything and explained all the details in a very friendly and helpful way. The location is outstanding, directly by the sea with unobstructed views of the Barents Sea. Looking out of the window at the water and the dramatic Arctic scenery is something very special. Close by is the Slettnes Lighthouse, the northernmost mainland lighthouse in Europe — a remarkable place that perfectly reflects the raw and powerful character of this region. we travelled 2026-02 and will come back in the Summertime in the Future The rooms are very clean, functional, and well maintained. Everything is practical and comfortable, and you immediately feel at ease. There is a well-equipped kitchen with dining facilities and a cozy seating area to relax. Parking is right in front of the building, and WiFi is of course available. Unfortunately, there was so much snow outside that we could not use the terrace, but even the winter conditions add to the unique atmosphere of this place. We would come back anytime.

Negative: Honestly, there was nothing we truly disliked. This is not a five-star luxury hotel — and it doesn’t try to be. It is a simple, authentic place in a remote Arctic village, and that is exactly what makes it special. We felt completely comfortable throughout our stay. We had booked the smallest room category with single beds in a double room. Even though we are 1.91 m and 1.96 m tall, we slept very well without any issues. Everything was perfectly clean and functional. There is genuinely nothing negative we could point out — for what it is, it is absolutely spot on. we will come back

Positive: I am so perplexed by how much I enjoyed this stay. The photos looked so unassuming and like it was a makeshift accommodation (sorry, Brakkebo team!). My room had stellar views and a family with a kid was put next door, which made me feel a bit concerned about noise. I NEVER HEARD A THING from my room. I was so shocked at how soundproof the units were. Everything was impeccably clean and the kitchen was fully equipped. I have stayed at thousands of places over the years, and this was one of my favorite stays due to the views and how friendly the woman working there was. Highly recommend staying here in Gamvik!

Summary: I will absolutely stay here again when I am in Gamvik!

Positive: This accommodation is very convenient, we stayed in 2 rooms, one had view on small lighthouse and see, it was very beatiful. At the kitchen that was common for all guests we had everything we needed to prepare breakfast and small dinner. Also great to meet and share other travellers, we had long journey after us and small children, so we did not enjoy, but otherwise ot is perfect place to meet and chat with other travellers. Nearby we visited lighthouse Slettnes, great cafe and nice cakes, Recommended.
