Summary: We had a wonderful time at the cabin! It was peaceful and relaxing - just what we needed for a weekend away. The cabin has all the amenities we needed, especially in the kitchen to cook our own meals. There are great places to hike close by, too. Thanks for sharing your cabin with us - we will stay again!

Summary: We had planned on playing outside all day with our four kids (3, 5, 7, & 9 yrs old), but the constant rain changed those plans! Thank goodness for the spiral staircase, the covered deck area, board games, and plenty of kid movies at the cabin. The cabin was clean and comfortable with a well-equipped kitchen. We did get out to explore around the property in the drizzle for about an hour. It was beautiful with the rushing stream and all the cool trees and mosses in the forest. We wish we could have made use of the fire pit! One day we drove to the Blue Ridge Music Center to listen to live bluegrass/mountain music. They have someone performing almost every day from noon to 4pm! The last day the weather cleared and we headed up to Grayson Highlands to hike Mt. Rogers, climb on rocks, and see ponies. It gets windy and cold up there! We also drove up to Whitetop Mtn and did an easy 3 mile round trip hike to Buzzard Rock. The 360 views from atop this rocky and grassy bald made all our disappointment over the rainy weather disappear! Thank you for helping us have a memorable Fall Break, Virgil!

Summary: We really enjoyed staying in this cabin. Although there is no cable, we enjoyed playing cards in the evenings. We didn’t want to leave. We spent a lot of time sitting on the porch just enjoying listening to nature. I highly recommend renting this cabin.

Summary: Thanks Virgil! Your cabin was absolutely perfect for our visit to this beautiful part of SW Virginia. It is so cute & cozy delivering everything we needed including a large wrap around porch with a swing and a great yard to explore. I loved the quiet & peacefulness of the place and did get to see deer roaming through the woods. We had fun spending time with our family in Volney & exploring Grayson Highlands State Park as well. We definitely would love to stay again in the future...

Summary: We enjoyed our stay at Cabin Calm and will likely return. Virgil was readily available which made us feel like if we needed anything, we could ask. The inside of the cabin was gorgeous and clean. We cooked in the kitchen just fine. The deck was great. There is a wonderful porch swing, outside picnic table, and seating. Very peaceful and private. The location is perfect if you are planning to spend time in Grayson Highlands State Park. I think it was about a ten minute drive. The property owner left toilet paper, paper towels, salt, spices, etc., which was nice and thoughtful. Some helpful hints for those staying at the property: - There is no AC. There are ceiling fans in all but one bedroom; however, if your stay is forecasting hot weather, bring a couple of fans. We stayed in July. The box fan in the master bedroom (owned by the property) was a lifesaver. Although hot during the day, it was cool at night, so with fans on and upstairs window open, we were fine. The cabin is mostly shaded. - The creek was nice, but the property was a little overgrown. Watch out for poison ivy if you have kids. The owner appears to be in the process of clearing some of overgrowth. - The ceiling fan at the top of the stairs is extremely close to the stairs. Be careful. - The coffee maker is drip. - Bring pillowcases. They were a little hard to find. - FYI: We saw reviews and recommendations for Pie on the Mountain pizza. We tried to go, but the wait was an hour and a half at 5:30pm on a Friday. That was for dining in or carrying out. Plan accordingly if you are hoping to try it. - The Grayson Highlands General Store was extremely close, so that was nice (almost at the end of the driveway). They had a bit of everything. Check the hours. We picked up dinner there one night. Everything was good except the pizza. - Grayson Highlands State Park recommendations: We really enjoyed the Cabin Creek trail- lots of pools, cascades, and waterfalls. Our 5 and 7 year olds did fine. To see the ponies (which were amazing), we parked at Massie Gap and took the Rhododendron Trail to Appalachian Trail to Wilburn Ridge. Bring sunscreen for that hike, but well worth it. An easy trail to an amazing view is Little Pinnacles. It puts you on the third highest peak in Virginia with view of Mt. Rogers. Park at the Visitor's Center for that one.
