Positive: Kind and welcoming staff. Comfortable bed. Nice breakfast and free parking. Location is perfect.

Positive: As a more traditional inn style accommodation, Grimstad Vertshus combines rooms with a restaurant. The sprawling property occupies several interconnected buildings, with signs of a long history of hosting guests. My room was easily accessible on the ground floor, with a large bathroom and plenty of space to relax. Breakfast in the morning was excellent, and the personal was very friendly and welcoming.

Negative: I do not fully understand the one-and-a-half bunk-bed arrangement that is quite common in Norway; the lower bed is too small for two people, and the upper bed can only be accessed by waking up the people sleeping below. The bed itself had seen better days, with notable sags in the mattress. I would likely rate this property higher if my room had been furnished with a modern king-sized bed. The location, just off the road, is rather uninspiring, though I am sure one would be happy enough to explore the nearby town.
