Positive: My stay at Hagurokan was absolutely tranquil, comfortable, and rejuvenating. The hosts made every possible accommodation to make my experience better, ensuring that I wanted for nothing and even going so far as to clean and lay out our shoes each morning in preparation for the day ahead. The building itself is historical and culturally charming, set in an ideal location right at the foot of Mt. Haguro and filled with beautiful artwork and woodworking to admire. I felt very much at peace during my stay here, and regretted not booking another night or two to prolong the profound sense of peace it instilled and to better harness the creativity inspired from its natural surroundings. I hope to return very soon and repay the kindness of Hagurokan with my continued patronage. For travelers new to the area, do be aware that there are no food locations open in the evening near the ryokan: bring food when you return for the evening or - better still - book a lovely homecooked meal to enjoy with your stay!
