4 Bedroom Cabin in Dorset

Home is located on 32 forested acres bordering 2000 feet of the Mettawee River. Home is also located 20 minutes from beautiful Manchester Center which is a bustling town with many restaurants and retail shopping outlets. Construction style is a Vintage-Adirondack glass and timber frame home. Home sits at the end of the town maintained meandering dirt road in rarefied Dorset Hollow. The spacious lodge consists of old and new. It comprises a gourmet state of the art kitchen with breakfast nook, steam shower, double and single jacuzzi tubs, radiant heat, massive river rock Rumford fireplace, old brick fireplace in Tavern room. Nestle in front of the fireplace or from the bedroom bluestone terrace watch the sunset, the night descend and the Vermont moon rise over the mountain. Listen to the babbling brook, the hoot owls, and enjoy the starry nights. Hike, walk or bike on nearly isolated dirt roads in "The Hollow".
The main house sleeps 6 adults in bedrooms and has a separate bunk area that sleeps 2 people, adults or children, and a loft above the master bedroom that sleeps one person adult or child. Total occupancy potential is 8 adults and 1 child. We do allow well behaved pets and we are pet friendly and are dog owners. We do ask that pets be kept off beds and furniture because of cleaning issues. No pet cats are allowed.

Summary: We spent our Xmas week at this Dorset gem and loved every minute. The owners were very nice and supportive. They even had a 10 Ft. Christmas tree for us to enjoy. Kitchen is huge, has wonderful appliances and tons of utensils etc. Property is secluded and peaceful. We highly recommend this home.

Summary: Our stay at the Headwaters in Dorset Hollow couldn’t have been better! The home is beautiful and situated on a wonderful, private, secluded location at the base of Dorsey Mountain. The hosts (Brad, Esther, and Ira) were tremendously gracious and accommodating, helping us to add our dog to our trip when I forgot to add him initially. They were also excellent communicators, sharing their wealth of local knowledge so we had a wide variety of activities to choose from during our stay. I’ve been a regular visitor to VT for 25 years but this was my wife and kids’ first visit and they loved every second! From hiking Dorset Mountain, swimming at the quarry, bluegrass festival at Hunter Park, outstanding dining and shops Dorset and nearby Manchester, day trips to Killington, and evenings by the fire, this vacation had it all. Highly recommend staying here at Headwaters or any of Brad, Esther, and Ira’s properties.

Summary: As wonderful as the house and area were, it was certainly an inconvenience when a part went on the hot water heater and left us for much of the first 6 days without hot water. The owners were very responsive in getting a plumber to ‘put a band aid’ on the problem daily to give us a limited amount of hot water until the broken part was available, but not responsive to discussing a token refund amount due to the inconvenience and its’ effect on our week’s stay.

Summary: The house is secluded and rustic. The kitchen is well appointed and has everything (coffee maker, not Keurig). There are three true bedrooms, and 2 lofts (one with bunks, one with a futon). We were able to walk to the trails as well as walk the Hollow. The weather was perfect- 70ish degrees. We lost power after a thunderstorm, but it was back on in just 2 hours. Our family enjoyed a quiet, relaxing week away.

Summary: We had a Great stay at this impressive piece of property. Location on Dorset Mountain (trail at to summit end of driveway), complete with the mountain stream running through adjacent woods, this rental is ideal for exploring Southern Vermont or just enjoying the house and land. Fully loaded kitchen can accommodate any festive meal. Comfortable bedding. Easy communication.

Summary: We have never visited Dorset, VT before, but we are so glad we did through renting this beautiful home. The land the home is on is beautiful with the sounds of a bubbling brook in the background and views of mountains in multiple directions. There is also plenty of flat land for a dog to run around on or a family friendly game of wiffle ball. The home is beautiful. A perfect retreat from the craziness of life. We had three kids with us under the age of 14 and a smaller dog. They had plenty of space to spread out in the house and they really enjoyed the ping pong table in the basement. The kitchen is also very well equipped with everything you would need. The owners who stayed in the nearby carriage house were kind and gracious. They introduced themselves to us then made sure to give us our space and to not impede on our vacation. There is a thick tall row of trees dividing the carriage house area from the main house area. The property is tucked away up a gravel mountainous road and a 20 minute ride into Manchester. Our family had an amazing vacation in this retreat of a home. We highly recommend renting it to everyone.

Summary: Highly recommend this place for a family gathering. Plenty of space and suited our needs well. Skip and his dog are right nearby and are very sweet so not the best property if you are looking for a ton of privacy, but perfect place if you are open to a casual chat and a wave accross the way. Would stay here again.

Summary: We went to this beautiful post and beam home at the end of a well maintained gravel road in Dorset Hollow, for some well needed R&R and this was the perfect place. The driveway was quite icy when we got there but still passable, and the house was truly one you can spread out in. What a wonderful house and location!
