Rione XI Sant'Angelo Apartment | Historic Palace Wonderful 4 BR, 3 BA, Panoramic Terrace, Views, Charm & Comforts

4 Bedroom Apartment in Rione XI Sant'Angelo, Rome

This marvellous panoramic and terraced apartment, called 'The Turtles' Dream', comprises four bedrooms, three bathrooms, an amazing sitting room, a most ample dining room / kitchen, a maps room, a very ample terrace / roof garden with panoramic views of Rome's sights, a second terrace to relax, and it is located in an authentic historical noble palace, in the heart of old Rome.
It is located between the Campo de' Fiori and the Jewish quarters, near Piazza Navona, the Pantheon and the Roman Forum. The palace is situated in Piazza Mattei, where you find the famous Turtle Fountain, which can be seen from all its windows. It is world-acclaimed, and most charming, visited at all times year-round. You find four copies of it only in the US.
The apartment is situated in the high floor (with elevator) of the famous palace 'Palazzo Costaguti', which you can find illustrated in all history / architecture books and websites about Rome. This high vantage point makes the property bright, and it enables excellent views from its stunning panoramic terrace and also from its windows.
The terrace, which is actually a roof garden, is 80 Sq. Mt. large (app. 820 Sq. Ft.), it is endowed with a charming table with chairs, an ample and most elegant sitting area in 'rattan' (sofa, armchairs, table), deck chairs, an ample parasol, fridge / freezer, cupboard. From it you can have meals 'al fresco', or sip a glass of wine, while enjoying spectacular views of Rome's sights, domes and old roofs.
The apartment is 210 Sq. Mt. (app. 2,250 Sq. Ft.) large. It is situated at the 3rd European floor (of an old-fashioned palace, consequently it is equal to a 4th European floor and to a 5th American floor). As mentioned it is endowed with *elevator*.
The apartment was just perfectly renovated. Each room is wonderful in its own right, for its beautiful tiles, décor, furniture, paintings of old masters. The property is silent, inviting and bright. There is also a charming second terrace with table, perfect for a glass of wine, hobnobbing, to relax or write emails.
The sitting room is astonishing. It still preserves the original Renaissance (16th century) coffered wooden ceilings, and each of the 168 'lacunars' or coffered frames has a painting of a different species of bird. Throughout all the walls you find also finest frescoes of peacocks, spaced out with the intriguing coat of arms of the patrician family. The floors are also spectacular. They are made with original 'graniglia' tiles with beautiful design, different in every room.
All four double bedrooms (two matrimonial and two twin beds, one of which can be transformed into a matrimonial bedroom) have a peculiar charm, and from them you enjoy a direct view of the famous fountain in the square below (you can also hear its water gushing if you open the windows).
The dining room is very spacious, and together with the large kitchen it forms one large open-plan space of nearly 36 Sq. Mt. (370 Sq. Ft.).
The property is equipped with all mod cons to ensure a most pleasant stay: air conditioning in all rooms, heating, internet Wi-Fi, complete kitchen equipment incl. American coffee percolator, Italian coffee pots, Italian Espresso machine, microwave, dishwasher, iron, iron board, fridge, freezer, toaster, orange squeezer, washing machine, clothes dryer, electronic scales.
You also find 2 TV sets: one in the sitting room, 55 inches large, w. Hi-Definition Oled Technology, 4 Khz (Ultra-High definition). The second is in the master bedroom, is 43 inches large. Both are endowed with satellite dish and Sky "Q" decoder, enabling you to watch numberless intl' channels, including American and British.
The equipment also includes a landline phone, enabling you to call for free any Italian landline phone (taxis, restaurants, sights etc.).
Last but not least, the internet Wi-Fi connection is free and super-fast, with download speed of 30 Mb/s and upload speed of 10 Mb/s. The connection is available in all rooms, without glitches.
The owners, descendants of the same noble family owning the palace since 1578, will welcome you. They are most hospitable and kindest people, who will share with you the history of the palace and of the family.

Summary: The apartment was spotless. Large, bright, well-appointed kitchen. It was a great place for 2 couples and 2 children...with room to spare. There were lots of stairs in the apartment which might make it difficult for anyone with any physical limitations. There is a lovely rooftop patio...but not easily accessible from the apartment. Easy walk to Campo di Fiori for great market shopping.

Summary: You are literally staying in a palace at this place. It was fantastic inside and out. We feel so lucky to have stayed there. The place was huge and easily fit our large group of women (including 3 full bathrooms!)

Summary: The elegant apartment in the historic building is clean, comfortable, spacious and well equipped. The location puts you within a fifteen minute walk of virtually anywhere you want to be in Rome, yet is away from the hoards of tourists. The pictures on the website are accurate, and the roof deck was great to have, although we were in Rome during a heatwave so it was only coffee in the morning and wine in the evening up there for our stay. There are many good restaurants within walking distance. Morris was very informative about the apartment and suggestions for the city. We would love to stay there again when we return to Rome.

Summary: Turtle's Dream was just that! We wanted to take our entire family to Rome over Christmas and stay in a place that was centrally located and was also big enough to provide comfort and privacy for 6 adults. This apartment fit the bill. Dr. Morris provided wonderful customer service from our very first interaction. He ensured that we had car service to and from the airport. He was also kind enough to spend a significant amount of time with us after we arrived to familiarize us with Turtle's Dream. They even had a Christmas tree and food and wine waiting for us when we arrived. Turtle's Dream is very clean and well-maintained. The beds were extremely comfortable and the shower pressure was very nice. The kitchen was well stocked so it was easy to prepare meals. They even had a lightweight grocery trolley that we took to the farmer's market for fresh items for our Christmas Eve dinner. One of my favorite memories from the trip was the night that Chef Cristina (Cristina Costaguti) came over and prepared a gourmet Italian feast for us. The meal was the best we had while in Italy and she is very charming and gracious. I would highly recommend Turtle's Dream to anyone looking for a beautiful apartment in a wonderful location in Rome. The Costaguti's were fabulous hosts and Dr. Morris (the property manager) was extremely helpful and prompt with responses to any of our questions. If you are looking for a vacation rental that tops all others, Turtle's Dream is definitely the place!

Summary: We live part of the year in Rome, and we love to invite guests from home (US) as our apartment in Rome is a tad small. This beautiful apartment, the Turtles Dream, was perfect in all respects. It is large, with excellent layout, well furnished, equipped, with finest fittings and decor. The ceilings are high, and the rooms airy. It is also a very peaceful and quiet abode in Rome's frenzy center. The terrace is large, serviced, exclusive, and we loved to hobnob especially in the evenings. The views are terrific, you can single out many of Rome's sights and domes. The palace exudes history and character, like we hardly have experienced in all of Italy. The location was to die for, it was a great surprise, much better, with more animation and character than others we knew in Rome's centre. It's like a little village, nestled in Rome's centre, with all kinds of facilities, restaurants and cafes. We are planning to find a long term in the area, after having discovered it. As for our hosts, Dr. Morris and his team, let alone kind Dr. Costaguti, have all been helpful at all times. Morris also organized our car services and an excursion, which was the highlight of our stay. We recommend this property highly, and will return.

Summary: In organizing a family reunion in Rome for Easter, we considered ourselves very fortunate to have been able to find several apartments in Palazzo Costaguti. My family and I stayed in the penthouse apartment known as the "Turtles Dream" The proper manager Dr. Morris Abate took care of everything for us and paid attention to every detail. He organized our airport transfers (which I highly recommend) which got us to our apartment door in less than an hour during the morning rush hour. The Palazzo is in Piazza Mattei which is adjacent to the Jewish Quarter with its characteristic restaurants and shops. It's two streets from the Tiber River (great for a morning jog) and a ten minute walk from the Pantheon or Piazza Navona. In addition to the famous Turtle Fountain, the Piazza has several coffee bar/restaurants and is full of activity during the day and evening, but quiet at night. Dr. Abate was also able to recommend a gym nearby where my wife could get her daily workouts in. There is also a large supermarket a 5 minute walk away for food shopping. The apartment itself is stunning! In contrast to so many apartments in the historic center which are located on narrow streets with diminished access to daylight, this apartment is flooded with sunlight. The ceilings are very high, the windows are tall and the marble floors are spotless. All the rooms have windows facing the Piazza. The large kitchen has a central island with 4 chairs and is well-equipped and up-to-date; it is very inviting and comfortable. There is a dining table in the kitchen which seats 8 guests. Dr. Abate was also able to provide us with a private chef one evening who after reviewing the menu with us, prepared a wonderful, seasonal Roman dinner for twelve guests. The bedrooms are large, quiet and the beds are comfortable. Two of the bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms. Another highlight of the apartment though is the private roof-top patio. Perfect for pre-dinner cocktails or star-gazing at night over the roof-tops of Rome, a visit up there was part of our daily routine. This is a unique feature which is not commonly found in an apartment rental which we really enjoyed. You can't go wrong with this apartment; it's everything it says it is and the pictures on-line are very accurate. We had a wonderful time here and hope to return. Thank you again Dr. Abate and the Costaguti family for making our Easter 2018 so memorable!

Summary: I had been struck by the all 5 reviews that this property received so perhaps my expectations were too high. There were many fine details to the apartment and it is great for multiple families. I had thought the higher floor would insulate sound better but the piazza is quite noisy very late -- past midnight on weekdays. And the noise in the building (construction, foot traffic) started by 8AM. This was a real kink in the stay. People should consider it. The area is pretty and convenient and the layout and amenities of the property are charming. Kitchen/dining room in particular were well stocked and warm/inviting.

Summary: Third time in Rome, by far this was the best accomodation. The property is as advertized and as the reviews report. We loved everything: the spacious unit, the décor, the terrific terrace Rome views while sipping a glass of wine in the evening, our morning stroll in the Ghetto and along the Tiber banks with the first cappuccino and "cornetto" (a morning dough). The historical palace has great character. Yet the best value comes from the charm and hospitality of the staff and of the owner. Dr. Morris guided us through the process from A to Z, and made us always feel at ease. Owner Dr. Costaguti is charming and helpful, a real gentleman. We are reommending this property, which they call "The Turtles Dream", to family and friends, and we plan to return.

Summary: This apartment is amazing. It was the first time I rented a flat where the reality was better than the pictures. The location is unbelievable, the unit is elegant and confortable. The building is an historical dream. The staff could not have been nicer. We coordinated our stay via email with Morris, who was super helpful. We were greeted by Clara, who was truly a delight. If you are going to Rome with a group, this is the place to stay.
